No buying what your selling bud..... Its only 129 bucks crazy not to buy it

What does that 130 bucks get you? Do the math man, for some common scenarios. Look for yourself, it's crazy to buy it.

Here are some example scenarios that compare the costs for an iPhone 6s below. You can see that buying AC+ is a loosing proposition in most common scenarios. And even when buying AC+ is better, the savings aren't that high.

1. Nothing bad happens. This is fairly common.
A. If you bought AC+, you are at net -$130.
B. If you didn't buy AC+, you are at net $0.
Advantage: Not buying AC+, for a savings of $130.

2. You break the screen once. This is the most common.
A. If you bought AC+, you are at net -$230 ($130 for AC+, plus $100 service fee).
B. If you didn't buy AC+, you are at a net -$130 (fee for Apple replacing the screen out of warranty).
Advantage: Not buying AC+, for a savings of $100.

3. You break the screen twice. This is uncommon.
A. If you bought AC+, you are at net -$330 ($130 for AC+, plus $100 service fee twice).
B. If you didn't buy AC+, you are at a net -$260 ( $130 fee for Apple replacing the screen out of warranty twice).
Advantage: Not buying AC+, for a savings of $70.

4. You break the entire phone once. This is very uncommon.
A. If you bought AC+, you are at net -$230 ($130 for AC+, plus $100 service fee).
B. If you didn't buy AC+, you are at a net -$300 (fee for Apple replacing entire phone out of warranty).
Advantage: Buying AC+, for a savings of $70.

5. You break the screen once, and the entire phone once. This is very uncommon, and you're clearly better off investing in a big hulking case rather than AC+ at this point.
A. If you bought AC+, you are at net -$330 ($130 for AC+, plus $100 service fee twice).
B. If you didn't buy AC+, you are at a net -$430 ( $130 fee for Apple replacing the screen out of warranty and $300 fee fee for Apple replacing entire phone out of warranty).
Advantage: Buying AC+, for a savings of $100.

Well you forgot the best case scenario for AC+. You replace the phone twice (due to water damage, run over with your car, etc) ;)

Bingo.

Well you forgot the best case scenario for AC+. You replace the phone twice (due to water damage, run over with your car, etc) ;)

Running over with car is VERY uncommon by the statistics. The most common issue is screen cracking from a drop, which Apple care becomes more expensive than paying cash to the Apple store IF you even break it (not up front for a maybe either)

The iphones this year are also VERY water resistant. They will last falling in the sink or toilet on caught in the rain; and much longer in fact. The average length underwater test was a good 20-30 min in fact. There is an article on most sites today abut the rubber seals found inside the new iphones.

I know, I'm giving an example that the poster left out. Two full replacements.

I figure if one is that clumsy, and surely people would know that about themselves if they are, then a better investment is good beefy case: lifeproof or similar.

I'm not bothering with AC+ for my 6S. I never dropped my iPhone 5 in the 2 years that I owned it and I've never broken any of the other phones I've used. I'm just going to put some money in an accident fund in case I do ever drop and break my phone.

Apple cases are indeed crappy. I mean they look and feel good but they leave so much exposed at the bottom. Dropped my iPhone 6 Plus and while it didn't shatter I got a bunch of nasty scratches. Wouldn't have happened if the case covered the bottom.

This is the best analysis I have seen so far. I am not buying any sort of insurance or AppleCare product after seeing this.

Great post, learned something new today. :) Personally, I found AC+ to be absolutely pointless for an iPhone, because of its price (130$ for the care when the phone costs 700$?), while buying it for a mid-high-end Mac is a necessity, since 200$ will give three years of warranty and support, so in that case it's worth it.

I had my shattered 128GB 6S+ replaced with a new unit tonight for $149 AUD. The rep never enquired if I had AppleCare+, just that they don't have any replacement screens and therefore they would swap the whole phone.

Just awesome service. Chuffed.

My son dropped his 6s from pocket level yesterday onto concrete, with a case, screen cracked in multiple locations.

Waiting for carrier insurance to ship replacement.

The outcome (and cost) of these situations definitely depends on the genius and their mood/sympathy...because they do have wiggle room to use their discretion with certain Apple policies. Last year my high end rMPB 15" was run over by a car (don't even ask). Obviously it was completely accidental and not something the warranty should cover as it's not a defect. I was expecting to have to pay near the price of a new one, or just flat out buy a new one if it wasn't repairable. They asked for 1-2 days to access the damage and get me a quote. Got a call 2 days later that the only salvageable part was the logic board, so the entire unibody, retina display, trackpad, keyboard, and battery had to be replaced. And I ask how much and when will the parts come in..."we got it covered under warranty for you and it is ready to pick up." :) I was amazed and in shock. Great service by a very nice and sympathetic genius.

Well damn. So much for the strongest glass in the industry. I have always kept my phones in Otterbox Defenders.... I noticed no one on these forums use them. I am too clumsy and don't want to worry about my phone. I was wondering if the new glass would make the phones more durable. Guess not.
This is what insurance is for. I'd rather live life and use my phone as it was intended than wrap it in some hideous joke of a case. Not offense to you, but serious offense to hideous cases.

The thing I think a lot of people are forgetting is how likely are you do just break the screen and not cause issues with touchID? That could be something almost synonymous making all screen repairs an OOW replacement.

No one knows until people start breaking screens, but it might not be a simple screen repair like the past.

What sort of case was it?

Admittedly, not much of a case. Some single-layer basic case from Best Buy. I realize now it is not for drop-protection, just scratch-protection.

Headed to Best Buy today to look at the Otterbox Commuter.

The difference is that AppleCare+ gives you a whole new, completely flawless device without blemishes of any kind. That... at least to me.... is actually a very important distinction.
Actually they are not obligated to replace the entire phone, just the screen.

I always wondered why people were so passionate about people getting Outterbox's. I have no problem with their cases and dropped my 5S many times without a scratch. Yes they add thickness but offers complete protection. In fact my case is being delivered tomorrow! No one offers better drop protection than them.

When it comes to trade in phones next sept. I won't a gave a single scratch and guarantee the highest resale value.
