First of all, Sorry @Mr.Bigglesworth to hear about your situation. I am pretty sure you were just following the hype of FaceID and how "It just works", and sadly it didn't for you. It sucks to share a personal experience like this, only to be ridiculed by several of the same people who share the same device.

Possibly trying again and speaking to a manager could remedy this. Hope everything works out for you!

Samsung won’t be reigning long in display technology. Lcd will live on longer than you believe. Microled or equivalent will make oled look like last years color vga crt. That’s my opinion.
MicroLED is just an experiment at this point. Nowhere close to whats needed for mass scale production and you only need to look at Samsung and LG to see how long it takes to perfect display technology. Even after mass scale production became possible it took Samsung years before OLED became the premium display technology it is now. LG is currently having issues with grainy displays, black crush and burn in after just 3 days on their first generation OLEDs. MicroLED will go through the same phases

MicroLED doesnt stand a chance here as its a decade away and Samsung can do anything in that time frame with OLED.

Just as I predicted Apple has placed their LCD iPhone to the lower end of the lineup because of supply issues next year albeit greatly resolved. 2019 is the year when Apple completely dump LCD and go all in on OLED.

Embrace the future,i7, you know you want to 😛

"Oh my god I must send this important email out in the next five minutes or we could lose hundreds of thousands of dollars!"

*hold up iphone to face, doesn't unlock/recognize and remains locked.

* Removes mask or enters code so that business critical milestone isn't missed *

* Makes millions, goes on with life *

^ Silver X scratches like that but then space gray is harder to remove and the banding is so boring similar to the S8/Note8.

iPhone SE(xy) is still my favorite iPhone design ever. The 5s with the chamfered edges does look better but I remember how easy it got nicks. The SE lacks them which makes it look more like the edges of the 4s.

I’m still really on the fence.

FaceID doesn’t work as well as TouchID. I hope functionality improves.

Aspect ratio is just whack. I’d really prefer a 5.4” or 6.2” device that has a 16:9 aspect ratio.

And for an “edge to edge” display there’s an awful lot of bezel.

I’m not in love with it. I wanted to try it because I’m all for trying new things. But this feels like a half-baked product.

I feel the same way too. I own an iPhone SE at the moment, but I’m so tempted to buy the iPhone X. But I’m just not complete sold yet. I think they can improve Face ID which will get better in the future. Apple completely went backwards on the X. I think I’d rather get a new MacBook 12” than buy the X

Well yeah. Who removed TouchiD ? Wasn’t you or me.

They did it for whatever reason. It’s definitely possible to incorporate TouchiD into this phone. The power button is plenty big enough for it. They didn’t do it because they want us to only use FaceiD which is wrong. There’s phones out there that support both and both work great on 1 device.

Ive seen multiple people talk about this. How are people who use cases going to use touchID then? Buy a case without buttons covered? Doesnt seem logical at all. I dont get why people keep talking about this as an option.

Because it is a very viable option. I am super happy with FaceID as it works seamlessly for me (I even made a YT video about it, check TECH-FIGHTER if curious), but no doubt TouchID would have worked well on the power button as it does on my Sony Xperia XZ Premium. Cases? Yup, they are open on the power button and work very well.

As for the OP, you have nobody to blame but yourself as you made the purchase knowingly and also attempted a return beyond the return policy. Plus, I just can’t understand why you wouldn’t just use a PIN in situations like the one you stated. Were you wearing gloves? Well then, TouchID wouldn’t have worked either.

As an FYI, if you really need one, you can add a virtual home button in Accessibility. I used it for a day and it was fine. For me, face ID is just easier. Give the virtual home button a go or sell it

You bought it knowing it didn't have touchID or a home button, FaceID is not working for you, you get headaches after 10 minutes of use, yet you waited beyond the 2 week return window, and now it's Apple's fault. First thing I did after setting my phone up was to test FaceID with my glasses on and off, with sunglasses on, at night, bright daylight, etc. If there would have been issues, it would have gone back the next day.

Before we get started let’s just get it out of the way that I LOVE this phone. However it just isn’t working for me.

It gives me a headache if I use it for more than 10 minutes at a time. FaceiD doesn’t work for me whatsoever. I use a hard hat, safety glasses and sometimes ( like today ) a face mask since it’s 16 degrees outside.

Needed to make an important email out while on sight and phone ( obviously ) didn’t recongise me.

So I tried returning it and going back to my 7 Plus and already passed my return date FML.

I really wish Apple gave this thing TouchiD. It was a bad move removing it. Had it not been for that I’d gladly keep my X.

Now it’s going to sit on my dresser while
I use my 7 Plus again.

And yes I tried to exchange it for an 8 and before I do that I have to pay off at least half of it.

🙁
If your close to your last return date speak to Apple and say you were away and really need to return as your considering a different model. They offered me an extended return on my ipad pro 12.9.

*facepalm* ...they say if you haven’t got anything nice to say don’t say anything at all so I’m just gonna keep my mouth shut on this one.

The SE still has chamfered edges doesn’t it? They’re just not shiny.

OLED is here to stay. LCD is dead.
Until they replace the 8 plus with an X style lcd model. OLED is expensive and quality yields don't seem to be there yet. Continuing with LCD on a lower tier model will allow Apple to sell more phones.

I fully agree the SE design is perfect. Now if they made it plus size I'd be throwing my money at the screen right now.

In fairness to the OP, I don't see where he claimed it was Apple's fault.

Easy. The rear Apple logo can be used as touch ID with the case cut around it, leaving the Apple logo/touch ID exposed. Already being done with other phones and other cases.

For example

Why does it give you headaches? I’ve seen this posted a few times.

Beginning to sound like it.

Wasn't that unusual for a decent percentage of iWatch's to end up tossed into a bedside drawer, but tossing a fresh iPhone into a drawer is an all new thing.

Can you have more than one Face ID? Like adding a fingerprint, add a face with hat/helmet/protective glasses?

Not at this time - one face only.

Probably, but the question is always: when? And the answer is often: not sure! People act like phone purchase decisions are for life. For most people, that just isn't so. One to four years max, I would guess.

Not really, if you explain the situation they do try and help you past 14 days

Yes, and the OP's situation is actually pretty reasonable. Also, it never hurts to ask again if the first answer is no.

I totally understand your disappointment with the X. Sometimes, we consumers see the negatives to products after purchase and use of them. Too bad you didn't realize the inconveniences within the return window to get yourself a Plus.

Same thing happened with my Note 8. I was 1 week past my return window and couldn't return it, so I had to eat the $200 I lost due to that and sell it. It loses value much faster than an iPhone did.
