Sell it on Craigslist and you can get a good price if Apple won't let you return. The X right now is like Airpods 6 months ago. Still hard to come by and easy to sell at a great price.

I was able to return a few apple items over the 30 days when I asked nicely*. One time it was for an exchange to pay for something else. They were happy to do that. If you ask the manager or store leader nicely, sometimes they will yield.

*Sadly had no luck with the iPad Pro two months out, but I asked anyway.

In fairness to the OP, I don't see where he claimed it was Apple's fault.

Well yeah. Who removed TouchiD ? Wasn’t you or me.

They did it for whatever reason. It’s definitely possible to incorporate TouchiD into this phone. The power button is plenty big enough for it. They didn’t do it because they want us to only use FaceiD which is wrong. There’s phones out there that support both and both work great on 1 device.

Lol, I like how you put words in apples mouth. The power button on the side is long but narrow, because they’re trying to keep the phone slim. I don’t see how the Touch ID can be on the side securely as they’d want the meat of your finger, not just a thin slice of it.

Your only hope is MicroLED and with all its brightness issues you will have to wait till 2022 and even if that project becomes feasible for Apple, Samsung would have refined oled technology 10x of what it is now.

Samsung is king in displays. Apple in soc.

So it seems you are in for a fix. If oled is giving you guys headaches, you just won't be able to tolerate Apple;s flagships from hereon in. You will have to get the mid range phones, sorry to say.

And apple gets its display from where?

FaceiD doesn’t work for me whatsoever. I use a hard hat, safety glasses and sometimes ( like today ) a face mask since it’s 16 degrees outside.

Biggles, you are a legend mate. The face mask comment has to be the quote of the week.

I have one question for you, and please be honest. Did you actually try FaceID with the face mask on? Haha

Before we get started let’s just get it out of the way that I LOVE this phone. However it just isn’t working for me.

It gives me a headache if I use it for more than 10 minutes at a time. FaceiD doesn’t work for me whatsoever. I use a hard hat, safety glasses and sometimes ( like today ) a face mask since it’s 16 degrees outside.

🙁

What does the temperature at 16 degrees have to do with why you're wearing a mask?
16 F is slightly warmer than -10 Celcius ... is there some environmental hazard where you live or is this need for a mask determined by working environment/safety protocols?
I'm thinking hard hat & safety glasses = construction/demolition, but mask = demolition that involves asbestos?

If so using a smartphone during that working environment is the least of my concerns ... actually I thought it's a safety hazard.

Same thing happened with my Note 8. I was 1 week past my return window and couldn't return it, so I had to eat the $200 I lost due to that and sell it. It loses value much faster than an iPhone did.

That's what I like about Apple devices, they retain value and the extreme popularity for the resale market is fairly strong. Part of the reason is because they are well-made and last well past their life expectancy.

It's also shocking to me how quickly android devices are discounted or buy one get one within weeks after the initial launch.

Samsung note 8 has face id and touch id both
The Note 8 has arguably crude facial recognition that only uses the front camera (forget about in darkness), and is not very secure (can't use it for apps, such as banking, etc.). Or it has iris scanning (with its own litany of issues). I have used both on a Note 8 as well as Face ID on an iPhone X. Sorry, calling Samsung's version(s) FaceID is absurd.

In the words of Android Central, of all places (emphasis added):
"Face ID is so good and so consistent, you don’t even need Touch ID. Until Android manufacturers can get there, they should stick to fingerprints."

"With the Galaxy S8 or Note 8, you must choose one or the other; iris scanning, which is far more finicky and requires the phone to be close to the face to work (although it works great in the dark); or face recognition, which is faster and more forgiving, but uses the front-facing camera, which makes it fail more often in the dark."

The Note 8 has "touch id" because it needs it.

Needed to make an important email out while on sight and phone ( obviously ) didn’t recongise me.

So I tried returning it and going back to my 7 Plus and already passed my return date FML.

I really wish Apple gave this thing TouchiD. It was a bad move removing it. Had it not been for that I’d gladly keep my X.

Now it’s going to sit on my dresser while
I use my 7 Plus again.

And yes I tried to exchange it for an 8 and before I do that I have to pay off at least half of it.

🙁

After all those complaints, why do you say you still LOVE the phone? It is ok to say that you don't like it, even if you are an Apple fan. My wife loves Apple, but absolutely abhors the X. She is happy again with her SE.

This is a good thing (unless you just enjoy paying full price for everything). Easy to get a deal on a great phone. Then trade-in value doesn't matter so much. I traded in an iPhone once each year for the past ten years and was hit with a $400 depreciation cost every time (which increases the phone cost to about $1,300 each iteration). Stupid me, I guess. 🙂
