If you think the iMac is out of date, check out what Dell, HP, etc. are producing. Sure they have high-end Ivy Bridge models but they are still shifting plenty of models that are completely out of date by Apple's standards, using much older hardware than the 2011 iMac's.

Can I buy an Ivy-bridge desktop from HP or Dell? Yes.

Can I buy one from Apple? No.

The processors came out in April, almost 6 months ago.

No computer for you.

Entitlement is ( a pejorative term, reserved for a female dog )

I've built all my PCs since I can remember, also I've been a windows user all my life, ran a hackingtosh twice and had a macbook pro but I didn't have the software I use to work with at hand, it wasn't powerful enough either. So I'm not actually migrating here, just demanding respect, I need logic pro for my work but I refuse to buy old technology at full retail price and many of the user of this forum agree. Now if they don't care about my needs, I wont care about their products, I'll manage somehow like I always have, that's my point. Don't trash windows coz you hate it, I've made a lot of money with it, in fact thanks to the work I've done in windows I could purchase a Mac

LOL, so a troll, a liar and you've made so much money in your life you could purchase a Mac. Well golly gee willikers what an impressive grade schooler...I mean distinguished gentleman, scholar and business leader. LOL.

Silly fanboyism. If you can't see the validity of criticizing a computer company for not releasing a desktop computer for over 400 days, then you have problems.

you do not know what you are talking about. there's not a best AIO than the 2011 iMac out there. workstations are a totally different animal and they are taking their time...

a tower? what are you waiting to buy from other company?apple will never do a tower.

I came to the iMac forum for a break from these these kind of posts over on the iPhone forum.

The fact is, Apple do not need business advice of some random youth who has time to write petty letters to multinational corporations. Another fact is that Apple could well become a company that only makes mobile devices and still continue to print money. I don't want that to happen more than anyone, and people will always want large screens and processing power to do work/other serious things. But, obviously it is all changing now.

I am split, I don't know if I want an Ivy Bridge desktop anymore. The more I read about Haswell the more I think I can hold out for it. I have also given up trying to guess what is going on inside the heads of Apple employees.

The Dell AIO is better than the iMac. You get better performance for less money. AIOs are attractive but for your money, it's better to buy a desktop that can be upgraded.

Is the Mac Pro not a tower? They haven't updated that in over 2 years though. Apple is not serious about making professional grade desktop computers. If they were, they would have released one in the last 365 days.

IMO the reason for the so called delay is we'll be getting a new iMac and not just the Ivy Bridge update this year.

Otherwise they could/should have delivered the update back in June.

enough said...

they could've get at least a little profit if they updated it back in June. even if it was just a simple spec bump.

every companies love profit, right?

Now I know you are talking out of your backside!!

The bridge it that --> way troll (clip clop clip clop).

Rush an unfinished product? They need 400 days to finish an all-in-one? That right there lets you know that they are not serious about their desktops.

I wasn't aware you could put a timeline on innovation?! Imagine the uproar Edison must have endured when he didn't release lightbulb 2.0 after 400 days!!!!?

Edison is not the best pick for innovation.

Tucker and the car he designed was really innovative.

Back to Apple. If they want to innovate with the iMac what is it that you think would be innovative.

USB3?
No optical drive?

If they put in a retina screen and a killer gpu that can drive it I will be impressed and then the wait would be worth it.

Maybe you are correct and they will do something completely different. Hope so cause this is getting very old.

As it is I now have 2 pc's and 2 mac mini's.

Why cause apple has not built anything worth buying.

rMacbook pro is nice for some but pretty much worthless for my needs.

1) Screen is tiny.
2) I don't need portability .
3) Gpu is very underpowered for the screen.
4) Does not have native blu ray.

I'm a troll? You're celebrating a computer company that has neither released a professional-level desktop in over 2 years nor a high-end consumer all in one in over 400 days. Fanboyism at its finest (worst).

Your defense? Thomas Edison.

Weak.

You'd have to be a moron to act like the Dell AIO isn't better and cheaper than the iMac.

But would you be annoyed buying an Ivy Bridge iMac back in May/June then less than 6 months later they release a new design iMac? Which is not unheard of, back when they went from 20/24" to 21/27" Apple updated the 20" then 6 months later bought out the current design/size iMac's

I will be somewhat pissed off if after waiting all this time we only to get the Ivy Bridge updates and a new LCD for our money, with no other changes to the design.

I'm crossing my fingers for a major update to the iMac design, even if thats at the cost of the DVD slot!

The Macbook pro is nice for some but pretty much worthless for my needs.

ITA - the only Mac I would buy today ironically is the Mini and probably just the base model if my G5 died, to get me by. Then save up and get the iMac next year. I could live with the Mini and a 24" full HD screen if I had to.

It's not just you.... seems every time someone points out an error or mistake the poster made, it's just "a joke" - and we must be so bourgeois that we just don't get it.

In my last post, I split an infinitive. And NONE of you got it.

I am a professional writer -- I am as much of a grammar nazi as you like. My original post miscorrecting "grammar" was very much tongue-in-cheek, and I was surprised to see it wasn't recognized as such right away. The smiling face should have told you. (Read that last sentence as though you were John Candy in "Vacation": "The moose out front shoulda told ya.") No worries, I thought: I would simply reply with an error that's a bit more common and perhaps would make the joke clear: apostrophe abuse. Every time I see a superfluous apostrophe, and this is every day in today's illiterate world, all I can think of is Gollum saying "It BURNSSS USSSS!" Surely such obvious apostrophe abuse as "Einstein's" for a pluralization could only be intentional, right? Well, when even THAT obvious flub was not seen for the joke it was, and you were congratulating one another on having "caught me" in what you thought was a genuine series of errors, I decided to settle the matter with a sufficiently subtle error that I figured none of you would catch it. I figured correctly.

It must be blowing up from your backside... ;)

(Seriuosly, why would you want Apple to rush an unfinished product to market? The same people complaining about the lack of an update, will be the first ones complaining about the product quality... It's farcical!)

That's patently untrue - of all the complaints I've heard here (or anywhere on Apple boards) many relate to lateness, lack of features, focus on iToys, turning OsX into iOS but NONE afaik ever complain about build quality.

Ever.

Well the poster's grammatical error that spurned all this did take it to 11.

Hopefully you didn't cut and paste this from what you actually wrote to Apple... if they got this email/letter they probably won't pay it much heed considering its grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Damn, dude! That's a fail on an absolutely majestic scale!!!

My hat tips to you good sir for the... er, sarcasm!?!?!

I believe you, but obviously this other less erudite mob don't.

Don't worry, we've all stuffed up...

This is golden! :) Yeah, I'm waiting for a new iMac too, but let them do their due diligence; I'm mean who knows what they're planning to bring out. Many of us are looking forward to it, and I'm sure it will have been worth the wait!

Who wouldn't be pissed, right?

Lucky for me I bought 2011 iMac a year ago. So if there's a big update (redesign, etc) I'd be happy enough to sell my 2011 iMac for that redesign. But if its only a spec bump, I don't think I will need it at all.

But I'm pretty sure they'll do a redesign IF they're throwing the DVD slot away. At least we'll see a slimmer iMac. They won't put double HHD or combine SSD+HHD. Well that's just my opinion tho'..

Now keys just sit and pray that they'll do a redesign. Nothing to lose for me :D

Wow. I guess all of your intentional abuse just got lost in the noise of all the unintentional abuse - I've tried to teach myself to look beyond all but the grossest of grammatical errors in online forums (fora?). I've stopped getting upset with improper possessives and spelling errors - it's just that the OP's post was so funny (to me anyway) - trying to make a point with Apple corporate folks yet sounding like he wrote it off the top of his head without much thought (he has since corrected a lot of it).

I should add I also run a PC with XP, basically as a server and video file converter, so it runs in another room while I 'play' on my Mac. Its a few years old now but I don't need another PC at this stage. Maybe when they stop supporting XP I'll upgrade. And no I can't just get more RAM or a faster CPU. By the time you mess around with that the buy Win7/8 you're well on the way to the cost of a basic PC with say and i5 CPU. So I'll just upgrade then sell the old one on eBay for parts.
