When you buy a company, you buy all the contracts that it has, and they all become yours.

Example: Say Beyoncé was exclusive on Tidal, and had an exclusive deal through 2021, then Apple buying Tidal would mean Apple has an exclusive with Beyoncé until 2021.

Of course, some contracts might say they are void when a company is sold, this makes buying the company less valuable. If Jay Z as a founder, doesn't have a contract, then this is negotiated on he sale.
The almighty contract; makes sense. Thanks for the clarification, bbeagle!

First, if your going to multi-quote someone, maybe consider quoting multiple users in separate threads. Versus, taking a page of merged quotes.

Second, I never said I didn't like the Kanye West/Kardashians. I simply implied their t.v. Show is complete garbage. I think most agree. We all know how they make their money. You mentioned the sex tape made them money. Robert Kardashian is the true reason they are celebrities, being he represented OJ Simpson and his legacy. And let's not forget the Kris Humphries scandal where Kim called off the engagement, this also helped renew her television show series, which drew lots of
Controversy.

Lastly, Kanye puts himself in these situations where he opens his mouth and doesn't know how to shut it. He makes ludicrous requests for obscene amounts of money and for people to pay his debt. Seriously? Get a job at McDonald's and get real. No one in their right mind would defend him. He speaks for himself and look where it's gotten him. Exactly.
Interesting quote to reply to. And you misunderstood, Kim Kardashian was unknown before the sex tape. She rode the notoriety gained there to a fortune through a plethora of other business deals. But it all started with a sex tape. From sex tape to a fortune. Not fortune from a sex tape.

Who is Kanye West and what's this company called Tidal? Apple needs to get real music. If the service plays music I don't like, I don't need them nor do I have any interest in them.

I don't get it. What does Tidal have anything to do with Apple? It's one of Apple music competitor . 2 separate companies. Why is Kanye calling for a meeting asking Tim to cut Jay-Z a pay cheque? Tim should just not get involved and let tidal die on it's own. Those that are exclusive to Tidal will have no choice but to jump ship to it's competition.

Just seems to me Kanye is trying to get free money for no apparent reason trying to make connections out of nothing. What ******** about music for the children. Sorry we're getting plenty of music. Don't give a **** if we don't hear anything else from you.

Jobs had nothing like the pressure cook has to deal with. Jobs wasn't always successful. Jobs had many failed products. Jobs didn't bring innovation every year. Jobs used to announce brand new macs with hardly anything but a minor bump in speed. Cook practically ran the company for most of the years it was successful. Jobs is the one that got apple into stupid, waste of time law suits or in trouble with the doj.

Apple have made more money with cook as leader than jobs. Yes they miss a obstinate, difficult sole visionary but so does everyone else! There aren't that many in this world and most of them can't actually run companies even if they are technically geniuses. There's probably been 4 in the last 40 yrs that could be as good at business as well as a product visionary, and none could touch jobs for design taste.

So getting rid of cook will not solve the "perceived" problem you have that Steve is dead. It's over. Apple is like Sony, or Panasonic, it's just another company now. Decisions are by committee now, that's just how it is. I can't be any other way.

I'm very aware apple is now like Sony , I've said it many times. And like Sony they will stagnate in time and be out innovated by the competition.

Some of us hang onto hope that someone will come through a jobs v2.0, but let's face it, it will not happen, and apple like you said, has become just another huge company, with an established product line up.

Though we cannot forget that apple got to where they are today , not cause jobs was a great leader or made the right decisions running the company, it's cause he made the right decision and had vision to create the products

I don't think Steve Jobs was an all-seeing oracle that sat in a room and dictated how Apple would invent the iPhone, and how they'd make OS X and stuff though. I think what happened was a lot of Apple employees were coming up with cool ideas, and those ideas kept on living even when technology wasn't ready.

Take the iPad for example. Apple had tons of design research into computer tablets. They've been poking at that for ages. There's mockup videos going back to the 80s! The iPhone was a really late fork on that research.

I think the sign you have a great engineering & design team is when they're kicking ass, but also baking some cool new ideas on the side. Google had this right when they were doing 80/20 time. I'm sure the "actual good idea" rate isn't that high, but it's like buying a lottery ticket, you're not going to win if you don't buy one.

Well yeah, people like Jobs don't survive well as a peon. They seek control and influence. So if you want Jobs 2.0 you should increase your intrest in electric cars and space exploration, because you sure won't find it at a consumer electronics company.

I don't see what would be the point of Apple paying big money for Tidal when Kanye himself already had to bow to their power by offering his latest album on Apple Music. Tidal has a very weak bargaining position.

Also, there are so many good artists in the US just looking for a chance to be heard; I'm so tired of hearing from the same old people over and over again. If the Tidal people are too greedy then Apple should use their platform to make new people famous instead.

[music reviewer mode]

My bad. Dyslexic typo. Something I caught already last night before falling asleep. Nobody's perfect, grammar Nazis. I meant Anthony Bourdain prefers Doggystyle over The Chronic which I agree with. Some filler on The Chronic especially from rapper, RBX. Doggystyle had no filler although the track that seemed to be the most popular over the years is Bill Clinton's theme, "Ain't No Fun", (if the homies can't have none).

As for Kanye, I think he got weaker by his fourth album similar to OutKast. With OutKast's Stankonia and Speakerboxx/The Love Below, they won the Grammys. But I think their first three albums were superior especially ATLiens and Aquemini. "Rose Parks" is my all-time favorite rap song. "Aha, hush the fuss!" The baseline and the layers on top of it is fantastic. Most artists start off really good early on with the first few albums before losing it as time goes by.

People claim Masters of Puppets is the best Metallica album. Or they love the commercially, Black Album. I prefer Ride The Lightning. There is only a few albums with no filler to me that isn't a greatest hits or compilation. Thriller (MJ), Nevermind (Nirvana), Is This It (The Strokes), Love Deluxe and Lovers Rock (Sade), I Wish (Skee-Lo), and Doggystyle (Snoop), Candy Rain (Soul For Real), and My Life (Mary J. Blige).

My favorite Beatles album is Rubber Soul, not Sgt Pepper, although "In My Life" is my fav song by them. I still enjoy Nevermind, but over the years, I prefer In Utero and the MTV Unplugged. In Utero reminds me of the raw sound of Bleach while Nevermind screams sellout with its polished sound. Big Boi got me into Phantogram. Dr. Dre actually got me into listening to Kraftwerk. They produce, so they aren't one-dimensional. Taste changes like the season because music can be sparked by moods.

Music hardly holds my interest anymore. I can go pretty deep with hip hop if I wanted to. But I grow tired of any song quickly. I prefer movies now. Kanye isn't even a Top 50 favorite artist to me, but he is talented. George W Bush is worth $30M and he is an idiot. Kim and Kanye are worth over $220M. I guess being an idiot pays off for them. If Kim makes more money than him (only $60M) and in debt, I guess he is the "gold digger." Kanye was famous years before Kim though.

Politicians, actors/actresses, music artists, athletes, expect worship and parody for all of them. I remember my cousin and I were smoking a joint inside my car about 17 years ago. He told me rock (& rap) stars have it made. All these women throw their vajayjay at them and none of these celebs give a crap about us. Not one. Still make millions singing songs on stage. Celebrity worship is all an illusion.

My cousin illustrated it with Axl Rose... Biggest do.uche ever. Kanye can't even compare to Axl. Throws bottles at crowds. He doesn't give a rat's azz about us. But the crowd start the trouble too. Henry Rollins punching a guy. Cobain kicking the security's head. Kids being kids. Funny how black people can be labeled thugs and dangerous to society and many white people do EXTREME Sports, are stuntmen, mosh pit, the wall of death, and raping women in Woodstock.

Music can be disposal entertainment like TV and movies. A mirage. Don't judge these people we don't know personally so quickly. Rob Halford is gay and he is the lead singer of Judas Priest. I think he rocks. Slayer talks about the devil and Tom Araya is a devout Christian. I think Slayer rocks. Just remember the moment Paris Jackson cried about her daddy after years being torn apart by the media and their haters looking for any narrative on him..

In a series of tweets sent out this afternoon, musician Kanye West claimed that the schism between Apple Music and rival streaming music service Tidal is negatively affecting the music industry as a whole.

West is one of the artists closely aligned with Tidal, who's also one of its co-owners, along with the likes of Jay Z, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Jack White, and others.

In three subsequent tweets, West suggested that Apple CEO Tim Cook and Jay Z, along with a few other executives at Tidal and Apple, get "on the phone or in a room" within the coming week to discuss a partnership between the two services. It's unclear if West's language is corroborating that talks between Apple and Tidal have in fact been ongoing over the last few weeks, or if he's simply suggesting the idea based off of those reports from earlier in the summer.

In the last tweet, West tells Apple to "give Jay his check now and stop trying to act like you Steve," potentially hinting that Apple is trying out its "hard-nosed" negotiating tactics again, which was recently reported to be causing the company trouble in the television market. If the two managed to agree on a deal, Tidal's purchase could bring Apple a roster of new and exclusive artists, possibly helping the Cupertino company realize its aim for content that puts it in line with "MTV in its 80s and 90s heyday."

Earlier in the year, Kanye was adamant that his new album The Life of Pablo would "never" be made available on Apple Music, opting to keep it as an exclusive on Tidal, but eventually the album did launch on Apple's streaming music service. Rough patches like this have left many to wonder if any deal can be reached between the two rival streaming platforms, so it's interesting to see that one musician so close to the drama unfolding appears to be in favor of ending the apparent feud and letting "the kids have the music."

Kim Kardashian was known before her sex tape. She was friends with Paris Hilton, who was wildly popular in early 2001-2003, and made club performances with her. She also dated NBA and NFL players often. She comes from a very wealthy family with her Father. He was worth millions when he ultimately passed. Her notoriety started and will end with money.

That's not the point. This Kanye circle jerk is bordering religion. It's not healthy anymore. I don't like plenty of artist and I won't type in the manner this thread is turning into. It looks like a cesspool youtube comment section.

Kanye "Jackass" West is a vocalist. Sam Cooke was a singer.
in general i think snarky remarks of this type are childish and silly, but I did look up Sam Cooke and listened to some wonderful music. Also, I'd argue Kanye is producer first, and that's the area he really excels at anyway.

I love Apple products - but there's a special place in hell for bullies. Not only does Tidal suck - but I wouldn't want to buy a product that supports bullying from a con-"artist". Not cool.
Now we know why you aren't using Apple Music. Taylor Swift does have more beefs with people. Every other week I learn about her hating someone or lying about something that she cosines on beforehand.

I guess it's the popular thing to do is hate the black guy for being honest. I think Kanye is trying to sabotage the deal quite honestly.

I see 90% of posters here read the story's title only before going on the cyber bullying defence....

Pity, they would realise this is actually a big thing considering the huge international megastars Apple is playing with directly here... They will need to be careful in what they do next. And it does seem they've been using their hard nosed tactics again. When will they learn?

Will be interesting to see how this one pans out.

Modern music originated by African subculture. Oldest human fossils found in Ethiopia. People complain some rich blacks are so spoiled and act self-entitled while white people still making money on black music. Where would Apple be with the iPod if black music never existed?

~Though I'm not the first king of controversy, I am the worst thing since Elvis Presley, to do Black Music so selfishly, and use it to get myself wealthy (Hey)~

I wonder how different opinions would be here if Kanye wasn't Kanye or he wasn't married to Kim...?

Or say if Kanye wasn't an azz, would opinions here be different if his image was more like Terry Crews?

Just tone it down, Kanye, and maybe Timmy will throw a few bucks at your boy Jay Z and have him top P Diddy and Dre on the richest rappers list. The "angry black man" routine didn't help Mike Tyson and Spike Lee that much all those years. Mike changed. Smile and laugh a little more, Kanye. Reinvent yourself. Why so serious?

Kanye, be more like Redd Foxx. Some words of wisdom...

Not necessarily. West brings this on himself by making outlandish requests for obscene amounts of money from Mark Zuckerburg, Steve Ballmer and now Apple. He wants others take responsibility for his debt. The things he says and does makes me think he has some sort of mental issues and I am not singling him out or trying to be disrespectful. A normal person does not approach and act the way he does.

You should read some of his Post Twitter rants after this article was posted. He almost is demanding Apple to write a check now for money allegedly owed using profanity, really? You think Tim Cook is really going to meet with West in some set up meeting, umm, no. I'm not saying what will or will not happen, but he does not set the precedent on anything. In the end, West is not a business entrepreneur and the only thing he has, is the Kardashian name aside him. That's it. He is a wash out. Case and point.

The term "Producer" is a fuzzy one and it is thrown around very loosely these days, so it's hard to say exactly what a Producer does. So, this is an interesting question-at-large? Can Producer X, Y, or Z walk into an average studio (with the mics, etc. put away, the board zeroed-out, and patchbays clear) and setup a session without an engineer present? Even a playback/stems mix with any written automation turned off? Do most producers know how to mic a drum kit? I'd have to spend a day in the studio as an engineer with West and get back to you on that over a beer. Producers: Kevin Shirley, Kevin Elson, Quincy Jones, Prince, etc.

We'll see if Tim Cook is stupid enough to join Kanya West in any deal, let alone a meeting.
This may be the the final straw that gets Cook thrown out as CEO
this would actually be a GOOD thing... since Tim's management of Apple, I've grown to hate the company more and more for the distorted elitist and wannabe hipster image they've been pumping people with for so long. In the era of Jobs, there was the Family commercials Apple made that were really good, family oriented products, honest school products, an attempt to improve education through technology, now, all I see are overpriced out of date weak machines with next to nothing to offer in the world of computing. Sure MacOS is a great platform but honestly I think MacOS 10.5 was the last really good OS or was that 10.6? It's gone downhill since, same goes for the iOS, it's been tweaked to serve the farm not the people.

But that's just my opinion, I've been an Apple user sine 1991, been through the ups and downs with Apple, worked for Apple since 2004 and have had the pleasure of meeting some of the best people in the company during my time at Apple. Apple today is nothing like it was back when Steve brought it back to life, back when Apple became the talk of the town and people actually fell in love with it as much as the tech industry. Today, Apple is a brand, not much more. The iPhone has dominated the company and while Apple should have branched off into Apple iTunes Company and Apple Macintosh Company as well as the Apple iProducts company (iPhone, iPods, iPads), this could have been a must stronger way to run the company. Simply put the attention on the hardware developments and actual products have been neglected for so so long. Every Expo is a testament that Apple is all about smoke and mirrors, extravagant shows and neural linguistics thrown left and right, but the actual products are weak and over priced. With earnings such as Apple, it's baffling that the company is so behind in the evolution of their products, their lack of interest in improving the computer industry has become more of a joke these days as they don't even make an effort. Weak updates, weak software updates etc.

Pro Apps died because Apple killed them. I loved Aperture, but now it's dead... I loved Final Cut Pro Studio but that's dead, now we have an iMovie on steroids version. Everything is about control and that's just the sad part, the insulting part is pretending to be what they once were... which they are not.

But again... that's just my opinion, like it or not, it's as valid as yours. Spend years working for Apple and you'll see how rotten the Apple Tree has become.

It seems to spread through unintelligent people, "journalists", websites and magazines who have a weak immune defences against such disease as the Kandashitis. I consider them both worse than EBOLA and some unknown Space STD yet to be discovered... by James T. Kirk.
