In a series of tweets sent out this afternoon, musician Kanye West claimed that the schism between Apple Music and rival streaming music service Tidal is negatively affecting the music industry as a whole.

West is one of the artists closely aligned with Tidal, who's also one of its co-owners, along with the likes of Jay Z, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Jack White, and others.

In three subsequent tweets, West suggested that Apple CEO Tim Cook and Jay Z, along with a few other executives at Tidal and Apple, get "on the phone or in a room" within the coming week to discuss a partnership between the two services. It's unclear if West's language is corroborating that talks between Apple and Tidal have in fact been ongoing over the last few weeks, or if he's simply suggesting the idea based off of those reports from earlier in the summer.

In the last tweet, West tells Apple to "give Jay his check now and stop trying to act like you Steve," potentially hinting that Apple is trying out its "hard-nosed" negotiating tactics again, which was recently reported to be causing the company trouble in the television market. If the two managed to agree on a deal, Tidal's purchase could bring Apple a roster of new and exclusive artists, possibly helping the Cupertino company realize its aim for content that puts it in line with "MTV in its 80s and 90s heyday."

Earlier in the year, Kanye was adamant that his new album The Life of Pablo would "never" be made available on Apple Music, opting to keep it as an exclusive on Tidal, but eventually the album did launch on Apple's streaming music service. Rough patches like this have left many to wonder if any deal can be reached between the two rival streaming platforms, so it's interesting to see that one musician so close to the drama unfolding appears to be in favor of ending the apparent feud and letting "the kids have the music."

:D Bahahahahahaha...

.
This picture reveals Tim Cook as the buffoon he is.

Jumping in bed with Rap Icons, buying Beats for Street Cred is a stellar example of how much Apple can get away with... at least for now.

With Apple running on autopilot over the last few years, he's proven that being a figurehead allows him the freedom to cavort at will.

It's good to be Timmy

What I find interesting with this tactic, is that Tidal attempts to acquire exclusive talent on the basis of offering higher payouts to the artists.

I highly doubt apple will pay more than it does and by publicly announcing that your company desires to be bought out, I would think that would make it harder to attract exclusives going forward.

If I'm an artist how comfortable am I supposed to be that tidal will be a viable entity in the future, while also excluding myself from the larger services?

Freaking circus. Let's make a rap battle, Kanye vs Tim. Should be a good show for Apple TV.
Please don't give Eddy Cue any ideas. o_OAt one time this would have been a joke and I'd be joking with you. Now...something like this could really happen in today's Apple, where they're selling earbuds designed by Will.i.am whose taste is  and letting or appearing to let comments from Taylor Swift influence major negotations. So....Shhhh...really, don't let Eddy hear about this.

Not to mention the HUGE amount of money, and the successful products Apple have launched since Tim Cook was CEO, you left that part out I see :)

I've actually been hoping that Apple would buy Tidal to save it from the current owners. I loved Tidal, and subscribed to it, before the Jay-Z takeover. Their curation back then was great (now it's all pop/hip-hop), and I'm a fan of the lossless support.

But with Kayne doing this... whatever. Tidal can just go die quietly somewhere. Apple doesn't need it badly enough to put up with that guy.

To be honest, I'd love to use Apple Music instead of Tidal. Although as far as I know Tidal is the only streaming service to offer lossless audio streaming. If Apple offered uncompressed audio streaming, I'd switch.

I actually give Kanye credit, I'm surprised he is smart enough to even know who Tim Cook is.
It's really difficult to assess actual intelligence when the person's public persona is so ******* crazy. Okay there's the marriage to a tasteless narcissistic diva to consider. But that doesn't mean Kim Kardashian is not smart. ;)

It's hard to believe Kim Kardashians net worth based off of a television show which is complete garbage. This is one screwed up world we live in.
