Tim followed up his "industrial engineering" BS with an MBA. It's stretches credibility past the breaking point to call the guy an "engineer," something I suspect Tim himself would agree with. The dude is a beancounter and every action he has taken bears that out.
Why did you quote his degree as if it’s not real?

He’s an engineer who also has an MBA. Is an engineering degree nullified by MORE education?

You are completely off base here.

Cook is also at THE top of his profession, making anything we say meaningless. Look at his resume. Speaks for itself, unless you ignore it.

Cook is the CEO of the biggest tech company on earth and was a key part in building that company when he started under Jobs. Jobs made him the highest paid executive AND appointed him CEO.

Cook is absolutely a genius.

Temped by the larger screen, but for my uses, it doesn’t really offer anything my current Air 2 doesn’t already do.

I have no interest in the pencil or in the keyboard.

I’ve no doubt that Apple will force obsolescence on me before much longer, my Air 2 will be 5 years old this year, but meanwhile, I’ll be sticking with it.

1) People have been complaining about Apple’s “outrageous” prices for at least 35 years.

Apple charges more than 800 bucks for an upgrade to a 1 TB SSD. You can purchase high quality NVMe SSD in retail for roughly 220.
Hence Apple charges approx 4x, not even considering its an upgrade and Apple doesn‘t purchase in retail.

Sorry, but 4x for something mundane like an SSD IS outrageous. Ridiculous. Greedy

totally agreed "everybody is replaceable"
so why some people think Tim is not replaceable
he should be the first one out the door

people that love services will love apple
people that love computers, devices etc
might not be so happy with apple lately
while many will still defend apple, others like me will simply call it like it is
no innovation and abandonware
that includes the Mac Pro and also let's promise and announce and not deliver air power
I think I said enough but I think I have some more things to say
let me just get it off my chest

can't wait to get rid of Tim, ever since he became apple CEO
the keynotes sucks big time, sorry but he doesn't have any charisma, he doesn't connect
at least not with me, apple is not like it used to be

hope someone comes alone that can turn this around
we need someone cool who also talks and understand technology
Tim just talk about percentage and numbers
sorry but that is the way I feel
nothing personal Tim, just business
[doublepost=1553964230][/doublepost]the reason why that man left is obvious
also the timing might be an indication
apple doesn't care about hardware anymore
Is this some kind of haiku or something?

My Air 2 is also that old. Still works great and battery life exceeds expectations. It's an outstanding product, as are my other Apple devices.

While I agree with you, I am glad Apple is getting into services. I’m already in the Apple ecosystem, so I have no problem with Apple venturing into new business opportunities to offer more services. Tim Cook, as corporate as he may be, has done things Jobs would have never done....but at the same time it’s kind of cool Apple is venturing to new things, since they do things better than the competition usually.

As for the keynotes, they’re utter trash. Tim Cook doesn’t have “it”.

If Apple products are too expensive for you, why not change brands and move on?

Last thing I'd do is whine-n-moan on a BMW enthusiast website because I can't afford a 7 Series BMW. Why would I embarrass myself in such a manner?

You just don‘t get it, right? Its not about the price. Its about the value you get for the price.
Or, in your analogy: would you buy some cheap China-made vehicle for the price of said BMW just because the put the badge with rhe propeller on it?

800 bucks for a 200 buck item is just not worth it

That's a silly response. I'd seek out quality alternatives that are within my price range.

I certainly wouldn't plant myself on a BMW enthusiast website embarrassing myself whining on and on and on thinking BWW will someday lower their prices for me.

Um, what?

It's common saying that implies people don't change. You know, like you just said. According to you, because he got a degree he is an engineer. It doesn't matter that it was almost 30 years ago and he hasn't really done any engineering since then. Four years of school makes him an engineer. There are no other qualifications needed. No CE classes. No hands on experience. How many credits does it take to be permanently branded as an engineer? One? Does it matter what the class was? Are electrical, civil and social engineering all the same?

Or, is it more likely that no one really cares what your bachelors degree is in when you apply for a job outside of that field?

If you get a BS from an accredited university in engineering, you are an engineer. That took four years of effort, and your attempts to discredit him are repulsive.

Yeah - I trust the insights of everyone who has a Bachelor's degree. Those take a lot of effort to get.

And to add to the above... Within that four years are a full course of physics, calculus/mathematics/numerical methods/statistics/etc, chemistry, and various engineering and science courses/electives, many outside (EE, ME, CS, etc) of the particular engineering degree sought. That's what accreditation is about, among other aspects. It's not a watered down (for lack of a better phrase) engineering degree in the slightest.

How many engineering degrees do you have?

I have three. I know a lot of engineers. I know what successfully completing an engineering degree does to your thought processes.

Try as you might, you can’t take away from what the guy accomplished and what are his qualifications. He’s doing a much better job than you’d do.

I am sure you do. I am not taking away from what he accomplished. I am saying it's been nearly 30 years since he has done anything resembling engineering. Knowledge isn't herpes. Time has taken it away - not me.

(Oh, and the answer is 2. I have 2 engineering degrees and hundreds of hours of CE.)

Man, it's going to be open season for Qualcomm engineers…

Like a buck can be discerned from a doe by its antlers, engineers are given away by their thick glasses, flannel shirts, and lustrous hipster facial hair.
Did you make that gif just for this comment? lmao

The issue isn't the quality of the program. I don't think anyone is questioning that. The issue is how well did he learn it originally, how much has he used it since then, and what has he done to grow his knowledge?

Well, I'd say extremely well... He's now leading one of the most successful tech companies in the world. And was also hand-picked by Steve Jobs coming to Apple, and then picked again by Jobs to succeed him. He started leading Apple in 2009 when Jobs took a medical leave of absence, two years before he passed.

His engineering degree prepared him for a lifetime of success in the tech world. It's not about designing logic boards, writing code, etc. But rather developing thought processes enabling him to succeed over a long career addressing myriad challenges along the way.

Results matter. I have no idea why you are fighting that.
