NOT Rocket Science, he saw that the stock had probably max'd-out, & now has very little additional, if any, upside.

So he moved on.

Cook got what he wanted, a Prop'd-Up AAPL stock ... now, he must suffer the consequences !

There will be a lot more defections !

Or maybe he wanted a new challenge and was financially secured enough anyway to do what he pleases.

The irony is, he was already at Intel but nobody recognized his skills so he moved on while Intel has cratered.
Intel has cratered? Intel does over $80 billion in sales and brings in $20 billion in profit annually. Yup. I see it now. Intel is doomed. Doomed! ?

Wilcox was at Intel from around 2010 to late 2013. I seem to remember majority of people here fawning over how great those Intel processors were that Apple put into their Macs at that time. People were so glad Apple moved away from PowerPC. But now when Apple has their on chips, it's hate on Intel.

Who knows why he left Intel in 2013 for Apple. It could've been for more $$$. Maybe he didn't get along with someone from management. Brian Krzanich became Intel's CEO in mid 2013 and killed Intel's mobile chips. Maybe Wilcox worked on those mobile chips.

So the guy responsible for the awesomeness of Apple Silicon is going to Intel along with all his trade secrets. I bet Apple is pretty happy about that.
Lol apple stole him from intel...he worked at Intel before going to apple so maybe he gave apple all of intels secrets

Reading the article headline would be advisable.
I agree! Completely zoned out! See post below. Thanks

All the other companies currently designing their own ARM based CPU’s aren’t interested in the desktop PC market, they’re designing them for servers… Intel knows they need to move quickly into that market.
I keep hearing this ARM server market. I work in a data center with hundreds of servers that I manage (my team and I). We refreshed dozens of VMware hosts this year and met with Dell, HP and Lenovo to go over their offerings.

Not a SINGLE word about ARM servers from any of the vendors.

If I recall correctly, only TSMC and Samsung have chip factories. So Intel and AMD are not making their own actual chips either, just designing them too.
I am pretty sure Intel is still making theirs and have for a long time. They have multiple FAB's.

The big question these days, from a shareholder viewpoint, is whether Intel will sell them off and get another maker, TSMC or whomever to make their CPU's....or upgrade them. This virus thing has pushed some in the US government to suggest that Intel keep making chips, so as to have some capacity owned by the US.

This is actually a non-issue, he led the team but he wasn't the only employee on the team. Apple's roadmap and processes are trademarked as intellectual property. He has to go back over to Intel and figure out how to improve their stagnation. Basically he'll be building chips for Windows computers and with all the variants of the CPU architecture that windows operates on that will be challenging.

Not rocket science, but all systems go for the tinfoil hat.

Intel makes their own chips in their own fabs. That's one reason why Intel has been behind on 10nm and smaller chips... they under invested.

There's also Global Foundries. AMD uses them and they're the 4th largest fab. Other Global Foundies customers are Qualcomm, NXP Semi, and MediaTek

Lol....and he won't use a single thing in his brain from the last 10 years at Apple building SOC's.

Intel is not going to sell their fabs. If they were, they wouldn't be investing tens of billions to build new chip fabs in the U.S.

or offer their chip making services to others like TSMC does.

I did not think they were. When the new guy took over there was talk about it...then stuff came up about partnering with TSMC etc..etc. I just do not follow it.

This is awesome news, seems like that kick up the ass to intel & AMD by Apple has done the job, after intel being complacent for the past decade not making any major improvements they finally moving again tho with 100+ W and GHz increase seems like they head off cause a little as that only leads to higher power consumption and heat.

performance per watts is what’s needed in a mobile future

"Prior to working for Apple, Wilcox was at Intel where he served as a principal engineer on PC chipsets"

How many people in this thread even bothered to read the article?
Cause reading is hard, it’s like rocker science.

Folks who jump like this are not looking to cherish their legacy which is a major shift in industry , they are just looking at money and knowing Intel , this guy will find out that he cannot change intel’s work culture
Was this your opinion when he left Intel to work for Apple?
