The 4s was a big bump from the 4 in every way except appearance. The 5 seems like a bump of similar size but including appearance.

I tend to agree with this post.
I didn't plan to update to the 4s (I've generally avoided the 's' phones), but my 4 died a premature death back in the Spring and I decided to get the 4s. It's noticeably faster than the 4 in real world use.
Obviously, I have no idea how the iPhone 5 will be in actual use, but if the performance increase at least matches the difference between the 4 and 4s, it will be a significant improvement.
I know lots of people are complaining that Apple didn't increase the width of the phone, but I, for one, am glad! I like the fact that the current form factor is easy to use one handed AND that it fits in my pocket without being bulky.

No, it wasn't.

Yes it was. The iPhone 4 + iOS 4 was a massive leap forward beyond what anyone had done before and left all of the Android handsets left in the dust.

Apple are letting the competition catch up. If they haven't already.

Disappointed by the keynote, but not the phone.

Secrecy was a joke, nothing in the keynote I hadn't heard, device was IDENTICAL to the leaks, 100% no surprises.

They spent half the time touting IOS 6, that we have already seen.

That said I am looking forward to the screen, the dimensions etc. Just would have loved to be surprised.

I am disappointed and yes I do know what I want. It's not a goddamn 4 inch screen either which btw is 2010 size. Everything has already passed up the 4 inch mark two years ago.

This right here:

http://www.nokia.com/us-en/products/phone/lumia920/

Is the screen size I want in an iPhone 5.

4 1/2 inch screen. That would be the smallest it should go as a 2012 product. Width + length. Not just longer.

I love Apple but I feel this is a slap in the face to those most loyal.
Have you HELD a wider phone like the Samsung Galaxy S3?

Besides the fact that wider phones just look plain fat and ugly, the damn thing is SO uncomfortable to hold.

I'm 6'6" and have mammoth hands, too....

Yeah you aren't biased at all.

After using an S3 extensively for the past 2 months, I cannot tell you how ready I am to get back the iPhone. Maybe the experience on the Galaxy Nexus is better, but the experience with the S3 isn't all that it's made out to be. iPhone 5 seems like a solid upgrade IMO.

My buddies have said the Nexus is worse. One told me on Sunday he couldn't wait to get back on the iPhone.

In the meantime, one of my coworkers just switched from an iPhone to the S3, another from a BB, and another has had the S3 since it came out. It's funny listening to the iPhone guy complain, "this cable isn't working, it won't charge", "did you get your 64GB microSD to work?" LOL He did get the SD working...not sure why it wouldn't at first. Turns out the connector on the USB cable he had was too short?? Anyway, minor issues but it's still funny to laugh at him. I think the former BB guy is in heaven. :p

Iphone 5 disappointments

Now that we all know the specs of the iphone 5, I was curious to know how many of you are disappointed in it. To me its a huge let down. They improved upon things that needed know improvement, well except for the forward facing camera. I would have liked to see the phone a bit wider but Tim cook said it himself that its the perfect width for the average size hand. Not only that but I'm getting tired of the same design for the phone itself. They have used it for the iphone 4,4s and 5. In my opinion it would make more sense for them to call it the iphone 4gs than the iphone 5.

What are your biggest disappointments of the newest iphone?

Yeah a lot of android fans are coming from BB. Its a huge jump for them, and they didn't want to go to the iPhone because that to them is the "dark side".

In the end Android was okay, it required a lot of tinkering to get anywhere close to how well my iPhone worked and I just got sick of it. This includes ICS and JB devices as I still own some android devices.

How hilarious, that's exactly what he says. "I'm never going to the dark side".

People take cell phones more seriously than religion and politics. Normally people who use the phrase "dark side" are the typical Apple haters. I run into them now and then and ask them if they've ever used an Apple product. The typical answer is no. Then they accuse me of drinking the kool aid and being an iSheep or whatever, then my response is that I've been using Apple hardware since about 1980 or so, which is normally about 2 to 3 times longer than the person accusing me of being an iSheep has been alive.

Given the new phone's form factor I'm just going to hold out for the potential announcement of an iPad Mini.

My upgrade discount will still be there in October, no rush for an iPhone 5.

Battery life improved over the 4S, but with LTE. Nothing to sneeze at right there.

Android phones with LTE are well known for their ass battery life. So clearly Apple has done something right without resorting to a platter phone to accomadate a massive battery.

I would have held off on this statement until after you saw what REAL WORLD battery life is like. We all know apple products as of late have horrible battery life. I don't see think getting 8 hrs of web browsing on LTE

James

Lol apple silly..iPhone 5.. More like iPhone 4GS..new iPhone specs should of been on the 4S... Marketing is what apple knows best..but new iPhone is sure a
Nice eye candy..would like one but Don't need one..Bit disappointed but what can we do... It's a good update if your coming from a 3GS/4..now the nexus 2 is another phone we have to wait and see..

Not true. The issues with the 4S battery were solved with an update long ago. The 4s battery life is on par with the 4 except for a slight drop when using 3G....which can be expected when you jump to HSDPA+.

My 4S gets me through the day just like my 4 did. When I do have crappy battery performance it's due to crap signal from AT&T (like I get in my new office).

But I do agree that waiting for real life results is probably wise. But it looks promising. *crosses fingers*

Best news is the iphone 4 is now free.
I dropped mine a few months and the back shattered.
I'm out of contract- can't wait to switch away from ATT and go Verizon.
I use my ipad way more than the iPhone. so a 4 is more than good enough for my needs. I'll take a replacement 4 for free and much better coverage/service.

good luck

I agree that it was disappointing. I really don't know what the Apple design team has been doing for the last year if this is the best they can come up with.

Also, little things like being able to send a preset text when the phone rings - Android has been doing that for years. Does this mean Google will be taking Apple to court?

I don't own any Apple products with "horrible battery life"

You must be a lucky person in the 1% that don't. My 4s still has problems after software an many device swap outs. Wait till you get on LTE battery life WILL suffer greatly

You most likely attribute it to the hardware when it's probably more related to signal issues. If I didn't work in another office before this one, I'd think my iPhone 4S battery sucks too. But before working here, it was fine. That's how I know it's not the iPhone, but the area I'm working in.

Edit: Oh, and while my AT&T iPhone 4S battery is sitting at 20% by 4:30, my coworker on Sprint is leaving the office with 40% or more.

Great device except doesn't the dim blueish screen bug you? I'd go buy the GS3 right this second but I like bright white screens and the GS3 is far from that.

I understand what you're talking about. I haven't been bugged by it. The SG3 is better than the iPhone with black or dark colors, which is very nice.

I notice everyone says this about every new model phone. If the technology was there, it could have been on the first iPhone.
