Disappointed? I guess I could say that. I was hoping they would spring the NFC in, the wireless charging, and maybe one other cool thing that we hadn't heard of yet.

But I will still be buying it no doubt. I didn't need NFC. I don't think the infrastructure is there yet. I was just hoping Apple including NFC payments would help facilitate it. And wireless charging is pretty cool, although pretty unnecessary. But I am still very happy with the upgraded processor, LTE, and the 4" screen. I was watching Anand's video hands-on, and the phone was absolutely flying. I tried to "play along" with my 4S, and it was smoking my 4S in all the things he was doing. So those are three pretty major upgrades in my opinion. I guess I just wanted it all. ;)

It is the thinnest. Sure the RAZR HD is 7.1mm, except it has that bump at the camera, which is 11.1mm.

Please see the Huawei P1 Ascend (6.7mm), ZTE Athena (6.2mm), and the Oppo Finder (6.65mm). And remember, Phil Schiller said, "World's thinnest phone."

Fair point. The lawyers must have told Tim sometime in the middle of the presentation as he changed his words a bit.

Just wanted to throw my 2c in..

As all the leaked information came out I was underwhelmed. As the event got closer and closer I was getting more and more excited. After watching the keynote I was just so unimpressed. I think my iPhone 4 might just go another year. I don't know what I expected really.. I was holding out for NFC which I knew wasn't really coming. LTE is a nice addition, but I'm not really sure how much it'd help me for simple audio streaming, web browsing, email, etc.

Am I going to be like all these other people saying "well, time for the S3!", nah. I have a nexus 7 and while it has some neat features I don't see what people keep raving about Android for. It's improved, but not enough for me to dump iOS and all my purchased apps.

2013 iPhone here I come!

I don't get why people keep saying the iPhone 5 is a new design. Sure it now has an aluminum back and a taller screen, but it looks A LOT like the iPhone 4/4S. The features added are pretty nice, I will agree with that. There was literally NO wow factor in the keynote for me though, beside the iPod Touch and new iTunes.

My problem with how Apple has been doing things over the past couple years in regards to the iPhone is that they're playing catch up and making phones that are on par with what is out, and not trying to make something BETTER than what is currently out. Is the iPhone 5 the best iPhone yet? Yes. Is the iPhone 5 the best phone on the market? Sadly, no.

The iPhone 5 is already a bit outdated and it hasn't even hit store shelves yet.

What's insane is if anyone else pulled this half hearted "redesign", the iOS fanatics would be bashing all over it.

Heck, they already charge Samsung of rehashing designs (which is a fair point since they churn out device of all ranges).

But imagine if Samsung pulled off a slightly longer flagship phone that ultimately had the same design cues. Ha, they'd have a field day.

wth you people expect?

I could understand about the 4S which I didn't buy....but I'm definitely upgrading my iPhone 4 to a iPhone 5.

What is outdated? The CPU? GPU? RAM? Screen? Exactly what do you mean? Apple never has the best spec'd hardware and never has. Is there another phone that works better with iOS? Didn't think so.

THE DESIGN ITSELF. The 4 inch screen is still small, and it's in a chassis that looks like a carbon copy of the same phone we've had since June of 2010.

No, because I would be right here discussing the iPhone. Why would I waste my time discussing a phone I don't own and have no plans of buying? That seems really retarded.

I wouldn't say that at all (and lets ignore the fact that you're comparing a phone to an entire mobile OS).

In fact, as someone who moved from an iPhone4 to a Galaxy S3 and subsequently posted a 'grass isn't always greener' thread on these forums, I'd argue that we've reached a point at which none of the major mobile OS's are leaps and bounds above any of the others. Android certainly isn't perfect - far from it (I'm currently running a custom Jelly Bean rom on my S3 and I wouldn't call it evolutionary by any stretch) neither is iOS or WinPhone 8.

It's all about personal preference these days - what phone do you prefer in your hand? which eco-system do you find most satisfying to use? Your answer represents your personal preference and not which is 'better' and certainly not which is "2-3 years ahead" :)

Thank you. Thank you. Oh, and... THANK YOU.

Some people just insist on hammering their personal choices into other people's heads!

People are entitled to think that the iPhone 5 is disappointing- it's just not what they were looking for in a phone. And that's completely understandable. But these same people know dang well by this point that Apple isn't going to please them. So why whine about the same things over and over again on a forum where people are inclined to like the new iPhone? There are plenty of other phones already available for them, and plenty of forums for like-minded owners.

Again, it's fine to not like the iPhone 5. But don't expect iPhone owners to just roll over when you preach to them- on an iPhone forum- about why their opinion is wrong.

Why is it considered a big feature when it's just playing catch up?

Phones have had LTE for almost 2 years now.

How does other phones having a feature have anything to do with it? The iPhone did not have it and now it does. Improvement. Done.

We all need to complain to the mods. This has gone on long enough. It's one thing if you are an iPhone owner or you were debating owning one and you want to discuss your disappointment and criticize Apple. It's altogether another thing if you don't have an iPhone, never planned on buying one and just came to this forum to taunt those of us who do like the iPhone. It's childish.

1) If it were quad-core, they would have said quad-core. Apple will never pass up that marketing.

2) There's not going to be a one-more-thing for iPhone. The shipping dates and pricing have been shown. It's over, Johnny.

According to anandtech
"Apple’s new A6 chip runs two ARM Cortex A15 cores, quad-core GPU"

That single handedly beats samsung's not-even-released Exynos 5. you mad?

OK, so you think the screen isn't big enough and they didn't change the 'look' or design of the phone enough. Does that make it outdated? I consider something outdated when it no longer is useful or when there are newer items that make the outdated item obsolete. That is not what is happening here. Seems to me that you (and others) want something that looks new and different just for the sake of being, well, different. Perhaps you should get the Galaxy 3 or something, it's large and new-ish I guess. I will admit it is a nice phone, the deal breaker there is it runs Android - home of the malware Android app store.

I agree with you. The iPhone 5 is good for iPhone devoted fans.

But, once again, check your fellow fans, who continuously tout Apple as the leader in innovation, who sets the trends, or who claim that specs or hardware advances aren't important unless Apple has specs on their side. (Look at the NFC argument. Not necessary, or not wide spread enough for serious usage. Yet, they praise Thunderbolt and how Apple is pushing the frontier in tech).

So again, good for you and other devoted iPhone fans that the iPhone has things the competition had years ago. You're conceding Apple is playing catch up. If they're playing catch up, be wary when your fellow fans tout them as innovative leaders.

The saving grace of the phone, for me, are its looks. If I didn't already have a 4S, I would probably consider picking this up. It really is a pretty phone, in all black. Fiancé still has the 4. This may be the first year that she gets the new phone and I keep last year's model, assuming she wants one in the first place; she is undecided.

640 is outdated. Every other high end phone either has a 720 HD display or they are moving towards it quickly. Still no SD card slot or LED light is absurd. There are bargain basement phones for under $100 with these basic features.

Clearly, you haven't met many of your fellow iOS fans.

I don't know about them, but I only discuss Android when someone else brings up Android and how it's so much better.

Usually I keep my conversations centered around the iPhone and what we as a community can do to help each other get the best usage out of our iPhones. Currently this place is for **** and I'm about to abandon it. It's just a bunch of whiners and trolls all crapping up the forum. A very small portion of the thread are actually about people helping other people with their iPhones or their intended purchases.

We are in agreement.

Hmmmm...by any chance are any of them replying to someone who told them the iPhone 5 us just a stretched 4S and iOS is crap and they should buy a Galaxy S3 instead?

If you don't like the iPhone and don't want to buy an iPhone, then why would you continue to discuss the iPhone in an iPhone-centric forum? The only answer I can come up with is that you are childish and like to cause trouble. (and I'm not pointing at you specifically, but a lot of what I see going on)
