Here is a comparison showing the difference between the 300 Kbps version and the as yet unobtainable 650 Kbps version.

There has got to be a way to get the 650 Kbps version, right? It makes a world of difference!

Wow. Where did get that higher res one? And how did you get both movies at exactly the same frame shot?

Apple uploaded improved versions this morning. The 650 Kbps is the best one.

If we could just find the source for the rtsp link above we should be able to download it. I don't know how to do this but obviously someone does.

I noticed the new rtsp link inside the starter mov file, but from my understanding it's not possible to record rtsp quicktime streaming files UNLESS you either use some kind of screen capture thingy, OR you take the feed from your computer and pump it out via video/audio out to another computer.

The mov files floating around on the web (330mb version certainly) was most probably grabbed from the posted akamai link, which was quickly changed to some other file by apple/akamai.

I don't believe it's possibe to figure out from the rtsp where on akamai's network the actual mov file is and then download via http (where the akamai link came from is anyone's guess, perhaps someone on the inside!).

The link posted before from akamai was most probably an error on apple/ak's part, could happen again but somehow I don't think so. We'll have to wait and see.

I was under the impression that the RTSP link includes a hidden referrence to the file with a regular html link. There are a bunch of programs for Windows that can download files with RTSP links. They seem to analize the RTSP link and come up with an HTTP link from it. In the past someone has always managed to find an HTTP equivalent from the RTSP link. Maybe it has changed since then.

That what I was thinking. We should be able to crack this. i saw a program on version tracker called Wizard of ARL, but it was taken down for some reason. This akamizing is strange. I have no experience with it.

if someone figures it out please let us know! I would love to make a DVD out of the higher rez one...Ill even seed via torrent for a day or two!

Whoever knows how to do this please help! :)

HD

Steve mentioned early in the keynote that it was being broadcast in High Definition. I'd like to see that video!

btw, i haven't got it to work with vlc, maybe i'm doing something wrong.
anyways the rtsp link is:

There is a plug-in for OS 9 and Windows called Quicktime Streaming Info that I believe may show the HTTP source but I don't have these OS's.

http://developer.apple.com/quicktime/quicktimeintro/tools/

Obviously there is a way to find the HTTP link from these RTSP files. I have seen lists of past webcasts with very complex akamai HTML links that were discovered from the RTSP files. They didn't just guess at these.

It was a nice idea, but I just tried it in Classic and the latest version of QT for OS 9, 6.0.3, doesn't support the stream. It says it's missing a software component which the stream requires, and I've got QT Pro fully installed in OS 9. Has anyone else experienced this? btw, I've ripped the 650 stream and encoded it in QP2 Constant Quality 3ivx. There are still some areas in the 650 stream where quality degrades significantly (like Steve Jobs' head becoming all blurry)... some problems with their encoding of the stream? Oh well.. if anyone finds a nicer version (better than the 650 stream), it'd be awesome if we could access it!

The quality of the 650 Kbps stream is fantastic but the source file needs to be downloaded. If you are somehow capturing it as it is streaming it will get pixelated from time to time due to internet traffic. It might come out better if captured in the middle of the night or something. I just wish we could figure out a way to download it. I can't believe it's this difficult. Does anyone have access to a Windows PC here? There are several programs for downloading RTSP streams though they may not work for Quicktime files.

would definitely be interested in the 650kbps stream or any other high def stream.

Will seed for file. :D

Hmm, it seems that nobody's downloading. Am I doing something wrong? (A bit new to seeding from scratch, though it says it's seeding, and the tracker is acknowledging that I'm seeding, but nobody's downloading)

Perhaps it's because I'm behind a router? I'm attempting to use port forwarding, we'll see what happens.

If you're willing to tolerate the little split-second gaps in audio (I used the audio from the 330MB torrented file, since it sounded better and less muffled, despite the gaps), try this on for size:

http://www.newtomac.com/tracker/download.php?id=2&file=MacWorldKeynote3ivx.torrent

(Make sure you have the latest 3ivx codec from www.3ivx.com)

When you say "split-second gaps" do you mean that audio goes mute for a split second? Or that the audio is a split-second behined/ahead of the audio throughout the whole keynote?

And is that the high quality one?

Goes mute. It's in sync. if only i could get this darn torrent working through my router.. but it doesn't make sense; I was able to seed with the other torrent.

EDIT: Oh hey, there it goes. :)

Just watched the keynote - my first. It was almost like a religious experience! :)

Steve is a pretty good public speaker. It was good that the presentation was light-hearted in part as well - e.g. the MSFT stock and the dollar exchange rate.

Bravo, Apple!
