I've tried nearly all of the rtsp stream recording programs on my pc; all of them bomb out at the same or very close to it place in the start of the stream being init'd.

Even one of the best sources for streaming info/ripping on the net that I have found over the years "The Streaming Media Recording Forum" over at http://p084.ezboard.com/bstreemeboxvcr, informs that recording rtsp quicktime streams is extremly hard, not impossible, but no program can currently record the actual streamed data.

I like the fact that John Mayer appeared again this year for the keynote. I hope this is going to be a new tradition. :)

I had the opposite reaction. While I like Mayer's music and think he's a good guy, I think there should be somebody completely different each time, to avoid the impression that there are only a few musical artists really enamored of Macs. The more bigwigs and celebrities who show up (including the CEO of Sony), the better for Apple's image.

the rstp link (hi res version , not the torrent) can be viewed in real player, it takes ages for it to fully download but works

heres the rstp link again

Hey Torrent Users

Just because you have the whole 650K version don't stop seeding! There seems to be only 2 of us still on. Please help spread the wealth!

And while I'm on it, is anyone else a little miffed that the "One More Thing" was the Shuffle and not the Mac Mini? I mean, I like the shuffle, but the Mini had more impact in my mind.

Al Gore was in the audience. I said "wtf"? But then I remembered he's part of the Apple Board of Directors. :p . Last year, we got to see Francis Ford Coppola. hehe

Pardon my ignorance....

Hey, I've finally gotten my hands on a version that's the same as the previous 650 on the torrent, but with better audio (no mute gaps). I've replaced the audio track in my 3ivx version with the better sound track, and the file is actually a little smaller now. Here's the torrent:

http://www.newtomac.com/tracker/download.php?id=3&file=MacWorldKeynote3ivxNoGapAudio.torrent

....but I don't see a .mov, .mpg or any type of movie file extension. How do you play it? I'm not really too familiar with torrents at all. What are they exactly? :D

Currently, looks like I am the only leecher. I will help you seed. Looking for this version!

Thanks, 3memos! And in reply to the post before: .torrent files must be opened by a BitTorrent client, like BitTorrent or Tomato Torrent. The file is only a reference to a file and a tracker.

Hmm, sorry guys, turns out this version has a few gaps in it as well. Darnit! Oh well, I think it's still better than the last version.

I seeded all night last night and most of this morning.

Well, if a better version comes up we'll play again.

Yep, same reaction here... But as low-priced as the Mac mini is, the iPod shuffle will actually destroy the competition!

I can barely buy name-brand USB keychains for the same price as the iPod shuffle! Sometimes, they're even more expensive!

Doh!

Why can't we get the original Quicktime file? :(

So what has Apple removed that the gaps are occurring? How mush time has been cut?

I think what was meant is that there were gaps due to either issues with streaming the keynote or with recording the stream. The RealPlayer link was still working just fine - the problem is that you can't easily record it for later viewing.

Edit: the RealPlayer link (rtsp://neotest.qtv.apple.com/secure/jan/mwsf05/macworld_650_3.mov) still works. You need RealPlayer installed, of course, but you can watch the entire keynote at pretty decent resolution.

Yeah, the problem is that the current stream offered by Apple is lacking in the high-frequency range (it sounds muffled). The best audio track I could find is in the 330MB files, but they all have little muted gaps (no time shift) probably due to streaming hiccups. If anyone gets their hands on the original file, or on a good audio track, please let us know!

Apple must've ordered 512MB sticks in bulk, to get such favorable pricing. Perhaps Apple placed an order for 1 million units and got a nice discount. :)

Well actually, you can play the rtsp link from your QuickTime player.

First, launch RealPlayer, select Preferences, choose Media Types. From the Real-Time Streaming Protocol option, uncheck "Always play with RealOne Player" and click OK.

Now open Quicktime player and open the rtsp url within it. :)

That's helpful advice if anybody needed it. The reason why Real was recommended for watching this stream instead of QuickTime is because someone said it looks better in Real than QT.

The vast majority of rtsp: URLs require RealPlayer, so it's generally better to leave that preference checked. RealPlayer also gives full screen support for QuickTime content for free, unlike QuickTime Player.
