I can’t see them selling it alongside an identical model with a few incremental updates. I think that particular rumour has some truth. You may be able to get old stock but I think if the price is a lot lower they will sell very fast.
Virtually certain.

The 6.1" LCD will be $799. The iPhone 11 will be $999. There's no room for iPhone X at $899, nor does Apple want to lower the price of OLED + Face ID features to $899.
I think you both are right!
Keeping iPhone X at lower price would hurt sales of new models, being both identical with minimal upgrades. At lots of people would like to buy discounted X over the second Gen.

@The-Real-Deal82 which phone are using right now??

Overall these rumors sound very plausible as Apple isn‘t gonna leave what is possibly their most popular iPhone price range devoid of new products. However, what I don‘t understand at all is the supposed lack of wireless charging and even more so Force Touch.

Both of these features are an integral part of the iPhone 8/8+ line which the 6.1“ iPhone would replace price-wise, and Force Touch has been around since the iPhone 6s in 2015, it‘s considered a standard iPhone feature at that point and incredibly useful. Similarly the absence of wireless charging would be very strange when it‘s a standard feature on the entire 2017 iPhone lineup; even the much cheaper rumored iPhone SE 2 is supposedly coming with with wireless charging, so why leave it out on their new mid-tier model? It would probably also be a hard hit on the sales of the AirPower mat as it would mean that all those people buying the new phone would have no interest in it. Hell, I‘d imagine everyone who will buy an AirPower mat for his iPhone 8/8+ and then make the jump to the 6.1“ model later this/early next year is going to be sorely disappointed about not being able to use it.

Maybe these details are wrong and we‘re getting these two features, or maybe there are some puzzle pieces of the new phone that we don‘t know yet and that would make the absence of these features more reasonable (like a lower-than-expected price, for example, although I frankly doubt that). But right now the supposed absence of these features just doesn‘t make much sense to me, and I‘d imagine it would be a deal-breaker to many people. I know it would be to me (at least the lack of Force Touch).

Currently using a 6S. I snubbed the 7 when it was released as it was £200 more on my contract and to be honest the spec bump wasn’t worth it. I haven’t regretted it and I got an extra 2 years with a headphone jack. I can my next phone being the 8 as the spec is enough of a jump this time around and it should have a good saving.

Yeah, I am looking at the iPhone 8+. If these rumors are true, I think I will just get that instead. I don't want to the BUN (Big Ugly Notch -- copyrighted! Heh.), and I like my Touch ID. Especially when using Apple Pay.

But it looks like it will be the last of it's kind. My only thing now is should I continue with my launch day iPhone 6 and wait for the discounted pricing in the 8+ in the Fall, or just go ahead and make the switch now? I probably should wait. But my middle aged eyes most likely would appreciate the larger screen size. So would my fat thumbs to type with. :)

I agree, Apple cannot go another year of $1200.00 for an iPhone. Most people are not willing to pay that and worse is that most people are not upgrading like we use to do so Apple must change course to be more profitable in iPhone sales.

I have a 6s and I'd be more likely to upgrade in the $700 range than $1200.00. But for me I don't want the same design as the 6s meaning I don't see an upgrade in getting a 7 or 8 iPhone since they are the exact design of my 6s.

I don’t think the premium offering will ever be the mainstream iPhone commonly used as the price will always be a constraint. It does have a market though evidently and time will tell if it’s popular throughout a full year and not just the first 8 weeks of release.

I just hope Apple remember the majority of their customers won’t own an X and they don’t skimp on features for the mid tier iPhones going forward. I think that will backfire somewhat if they do as it’ll force people to be tempted by more feature packed alternatives at similar price points. Or it’ll drive up sales of cheaper older iPhones boasting better features.

It's also possible that it may take a year for customers to gain that confidence that Apple has corrected the slow down on iPhones due to software and we can begin again to trust Apple not to slow our phones down forcing us to think we need a new phone when that was not the issue.

I've got a 6s on the original battery that is 2.5 yrs old now, still running iOS 9.3.5 and I have over 70% battery health. I'd imagine I can go another 1 or 2 yrs on this battery. Phone works butter smooth still no issues.

My iPhone 6S is running great on the latest update. Just be aware if you’re using iOS 9 your security settings are way out of date and as long as you’re not using banking apps or Apple Pay, you should be alright.

T-Mobile (my carrier) announced the S9 & S9+ today https://newsroom.t-mobile.com/news-and-blogs/samsung-galaxy.htm and features Band 71 support AND LAA. Screenshot shows a download speed of 1.1 Gbps. I deliberately took a pass on an iPhone 8 waiting for Band 71 support. If indeed Intel will be the exclusive modem supplier, has there been any indication if Band 71 will be included? How about LAA?

Dude, do you really want to be holding a modem that powerful up to your head?
