It makes no sense because phones currently in the lineup cheaper than this rumored phone have Taptic Engine and 3D Touch. Nothing about this device makes any sense. Of course analysts got hardly anything right about the 5C. My guess is this situation is similar. Here a rumor about some bigger screen cheaper priced phone and start speculating on what Apple could do to make it cheaper and turn that into a rumor.

Not sure why you're comparing Ming-Chi Kuo to other analysts when he's the world's most accurate Apple analyst.

This 6.1" phone will have Taptic Engine but no 3D Touch.

3D Touch has long been known to be an expensive feature and one of the reasons why Samsung hasn't implemented it. This 6.1" device is a mainstream phone using a brand new thin-bezel Full Active LCD panel from JDI. It makes sense Apple doesn't want complexity during the assembly process.

This is what happens when you have a bean counter CEO. Kuo is never wrong. The 6.1 iPhone is trash.

Whoever came up with that useless 3D Touch gimmick should be fired. It can be replaced with smarter effortless long touch gestures that doesn't consume battery or take up internal space that can be used for a larger capacity battery.

Apple need to find redemption with a price conscious model. Make it 6.1" with essentials only and no gimmicks so include minimal bezel, single main camera, Touch ID, wireless charging and price at $399. Remove the ugly notch, Face ID, 3D Touch, fake ugly bokeh portrait mode camera, animoji, etc.

Speak for yourself. I like my 3D Touch feature just fine.

Oh please... Kuo did not "shared additional details"... Kuo has no ****ing clue... Kuo linked improved iPhone X availability to higher manufacturing output, when everybody already knew that the price point was way to high for the average consumer.

Apple will cut on display technology, steel chassis and dual camera lens to reach iPhone 8's pricepoint.

The 4.7" is an old form factor which will probably be reborn as an SE2.

If customers want a 4.7" device with the latest technologies, they have to go to 5.8" or 6.1".

The name of the game is "Apple wants higher ASPs."
The SE is 4" not 4.7" though. I can't believe that we're stuck with getting giant phones...
A bezel-less iPhone SE would get basically the same 4.7" screen that the current iPhone 6 to 8 have.
Why would they discontinue reasonably sized phones, and how is size related to ASP? People buying these phones don't buy them because they're cheaper but because they don't want to carry around bigger devices in their pocket.

1. The majority of SE buyers are price sensitive. If you look at markets like India and retailers like Amazon India and Flipkart, the top selling iPhone is the SE.

2. Manufacturing a thin-bezel would be SE costly. It has a small internal volume relative to the display size. To power a large display on a small SE device, Apple will need to employ expensive tricks like an L-shaped battery and stacked logic board.

3. The 4" market is dying. If it were so popular, other manufacturers like Samsung and Huawei would be pumping them out. Apple would be refreshing the SE on an annual basis instead of leaving it for more than 18 months untouched.

The lovely thing about features like this is if you don’t like it you can turn it off! Why take stuff away wholesale if there are a lot of people using it?
And for those that don’t, you dont need or want to use the trackpad-like precise cursor movement it affords you when typing?

No 3D Touch ?! - this "feature" has never been ergonomic - tender typing and then strongly pressing - better to solve with intelligent gestures e.g. typing (tenderly as ever) with 2 fingers or sweeping with fingers diagonally etc. ;-)
Will not miss it :)))

Rear glass was horrible for everyone who prefers pure iPhone feeling at his fingers/hand in case he saw his phone falling - Goodbye ! :)

LOL, it's so strategic, 3D Touch is not even mentioned on the iPhone X product overview page. It's buried as a single line item on the Tech Specs page.
Yet it’s a core feature of the operating system itself, not a single product differentiator...hence why it’s not touted as a feature of an individual device.

3D Touch is going to be a core part of the iOS experience going forward.

Yet the iPhone 8 product overview page mentions 3D Touch. It's a feature when Apple doesn't have enough checkboxes to tick off. With the iPhone X, Apple doesn't even mention it.

3D Touch is about as core to iOS as Portrait Lighting is. If it were so core to iOS, iPad Pro would have it.

The only thjng that gives this credibility is that the line up is unwieldy and complex at the moment and this would continue the trajectory of complicating it.

I can believe this, Cooks cost cutting measures, take out 3D Touch or incapable of making it work with the new screen, so they ditch it, remove wireless charging to save costs. the iPhone SE doesn't have these after all..
Seems a pointless phone anyway? Still expensive yet with a reduced feature list, only built to serve Apples bottom line.

I can hear the outcry's if they made this thing the new SE, lets hope that model still gets a good update and stays a small size.

Look at the iMac Pro, took the iMac case, painted it grey, stuck the same screen in it, updated the internals and glued it all together, made nothing easily user upgradable, multiplied the price by what 4 times? I'm sure Apple gets a good deal on those Xeon chips..

If Apple releases a gimped 6.1" model, I am begrudgingly going to switch to the Pixel 3 or a Galaxy S9 come this fall.

Why? You'll still have the X to buy? And thanks to Apple, everyone else has jumped on the stupid cost phone pricing.. The Pixel 3 will cost the same as an iPhone X.

I like my Apple Watch too much, I sent the 8 I had back as it's a good improvement but boring, I may wait till the inevitable sell off of iPhone X stock if Apple drop it when the 11 is launched if it's cheaper. Will stick to the smaller screen.

The S9 will be launched at MWC I see next month. This 6.1 model would be alright if it kept 3 Touch, well I use that all the time, then again it would be too big for me. It will be interesting to see what the new LCD screen tech is like though.

Ming-Chi Kuo is the one that told the world iPhone X would rely on Face ID alone. And Apple would ditch Touch ID.

Those of you who doubted him last year looked pretty silly.

Feel free to doubt him about 3D Touch, but prepared to look dumb in September.

Yeah, I even said on here once he got things wrong and was hammered, this was when I was hopeful the X would have Touch ID still...... KGI is one hell of a reliable source for rumours and a LOT turn out to be true. People may not like this story, but it has a very good chance of being accurate.
