The Samsung Galaxy S8 iris scanner was fooled by a photo with a contact lens over it.

Note that he used a discontinued camera with an actual infrared night mode and optical zoom lens. The so-called night mode on most modern cameras would not work because they have IR filters now.

Plus the target was looking right at the camera, which means he could see his picture being taken.

It's all relative. For years it was known that someone coukd take a photo of a finger from a similar distance to make a fake print to get into TouchId. But just as with the iris scanner, most users didn't feel such abilities were that much of a real life risk.

Actually yes, Face ID is much better than Touch ID and was the next logical step, I believe that Face ID was always Apple’s first choice.

It wasn't though. It was meant as an alternative until it was quickly realised they couldn't make Touch work.

That's your speculation, and it goes against what execs at Apple have said. Not only is the implication that they're lying dubious (where is your evidence that they regard Face ID as inferior to Touch ID?); it could also get them in legal trouble with the SEC.

Shock news, company puts a positive spin on a product - who would have thought it.

Guess you never use your phone in the dark, since Iris Scanner needs a decent lighting. FaceID works even in the dark.
This is a lie. Iris scanner works in pitch black. But you'll say anything to make face ID seem better over everything else.

Ok, my bad, but FaceID is actually better than Iris Scanner. You can't deny that. You can easily fool it (http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/...-iris-scanner-is-actually-pretty-easy-2949674 and also https://m.androidcentral.com/differences-between-samsung-and-apple-face-unlocking), and often doesn't work (unless you bring your phone close to your eyes - can't imagine anyone do that in public). FaceID is soo many years ahead of it.

I agree it is. I do prefer touch id though. That may change in the future though.

You couldn’t be more wrong.

FaceID isn’t only a replacement for TouchID.

Will anyone ever get it?

Yeah, makes logical sense a system as complex as FaceID that needs multiples suppliers coordinated, special silicon developed, and a ton of custom software to work was a last minute plan B.

Apple execs also said this was baloney, but keep making up facts to support your false narrative because of course everyone is lying and it’s all a conspiracy.

Literally every fact points to FaceID always being the solution. Only speculation is evidence to the contrary.

It's good, it is also 2.5 times the price of others!
competitors on Android will release the same thing or better in 6 months as usual.

What flagship phone is the X 2.5 times the price of? Maybe the Essential, but that’s because Essential isn’t selling phones and has inventory to offload.

Edit: and I highly doubt Android is going to have the same thing or better in six months. When has it ever been like that hardware wise?

Anything is possible. Qualcomm said last summer that their chipset could be ready early next year.

After all, Apple didn't do anything radically new except buy miniaturized versions of parts for a facial recognition method that has been around for decades. And some of the same parts suppliers are also signed up with Qualcomm.

Oh, it possible. But I would be surprised if Apple didn’t snatch up some exclusivity deal for a set amount of time. I also question whether or not it can be as ready on the software side in the next six month.

The S9 is probably feature complete a little bit ago if it’s going to ship at the same time the S8 did last year. And if it’s part of the SnapDragon 845 chipset, I wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung prebought all of them for a few months. That was a good check mark for them when they had all the 835 last year.

BTW, you really do like downplaying everything Apple does. I wonder why.

Some might wonder why you downplay everything Android does:

:D

Though in reality, I doubt that either of us does this with "everything".

I’m just irked when people act like Apple just walks up and buys parts. Why do you think they bought the company that made the Kinect, for example? They did that almost four years ago.

They design things, let’s not pretend otherwise.

As for me up-playing Apple or downplaying Android? Nope. Android does a lot of things Apple doesn’t do for iOS. Like every release improving battery life on Android. And without Samsung, we’d still have 3.5” iPhones.

Am I hyperbolic at times? Sure. But you seem to be no fan of the people at Cupertino and it shows.
