If you get the nhtsa weekly recall announcement like I do then you might not be surprised by how the frequency of unintended thermal events or risk of same affect every OEM.
The recalls are quite substantial this time. Not gonna touch any Hyundai or Kia EV till it’s sorted out.

I bought a 2020 Kia Niro hybrid in December for my restaurant and it's a pretty good car. The worst car I've had is a 2007 Toyota Camry with lots of issues. My current personal car is a 2013 VW diesel with 200k miles but I might go for an EV this year or next.

Same here, in 2009. Worst car I've ever had, and trust me I owned a couple of clunkers.

Oh, so My experience with a 1983 Toyota has a direct bearing on how they are today?

How?

That car was a total POS! It was the closest thing to riding in a tin can I have ever experienced. The engine should have been on a skateboard instead of in a 'car'. The 'fit and finish' was 'Huh? What's that?'. It was a hot mess, cold mess, even a lukewarm mess, but all I could afford. Still, it lasted longer than the American car the parents gave me.

So, is Toyota known for POS 'junk on wheels' today? Hmm... Don't think so...

Toyota has made GIGANTIC strides to make amazingly reliable, and high quality cars today. A co-worker said he'd give up his kid before he'd give up his Kia. *shrug* Times change. Corporations with a brain CHANGE.

No doubt it’s been hard for those companies to shake their (previously well-deserved) reputations for poor quality, but as another poster said, they are quite different now. Both Kia and Hyundai now make very solid cars and often at better prices than their competitors with stronger brands.
Exactly. My last Hyundai/Kia was a 2000 Hyundai Sonata. I drove it cross-country from NY to AZ and it was quite a nice highway car with decent gas mileage at the time. In the 4th year it started to experience some issues so I traded it in.

Fast-foward 21 years and 3 new cars in the interim. 5 months ago I bought a 2021 Kia K5. A real looker of a car, IMO, and decked out with all the bells and whistles. It's a real joy to ride with amazing gas mileage as a bonus. I'm a dinosaur so my mind immediately rushes ahead to what's going to happen with all of those electronics 5 years from now.... but until then, I'm going to have a blast driving it. :p

Someone mentioned 'Yugo'.

Yeah...

I had my truck in to be painted. They gave me 'The Loaner'.

It was a Yugo.

The wiper stalk turned the headlights on, and off when the wipers were running. The 'radio' got nothing but static, no matter what you tried to tune it to. The door would sag slightly after opening it. They screwed up and painted the inside of the bed, and not the outside. Another week in 'The Loaner'... OMG!!!

Other memories of The Loaner: No suspension. The car smelling slightly of fish. Turning the steering wheel was interesting. After I got the first call 'Come pick up your truck' call, and found out they screwed up the job, I asked it they had a different Loaner. 'Nope. That's it.' Damn...

Oh, the turn signals didn't work. I had to stick my hands out the windows and signal that way. Yikes...

So when Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo talked about an Apple / Kia collaboration a few months back, he got the wrong end of the stick?!

Nothing is free in life. Even when "the first payment is on us".
When this policy is offered, it is always "included" in your price ;)
Yeah, it’s pretty much all about whether one or the other makes you feel better about the purchase! Heck, they’ll give you “free” oil changes for life!

Looking forward to the gazillion recalls on this one. I'll never buy a Kia again, my wife and I have had nothing but issues on our 2013 Sportage and my 2016 Soul.
On the other hand, after having a Hyundai Entourage in the US while posted there I bought a Kia Grand Carnival here in Australia on my return. It has been singularly the best, most reliable car I have ever owned. It has, as far as I can see only one systemic issue; that one being headlight globes burning out quickly for some reason.

So while you may have had a bad experience, please don't generalise.

I'm sure they gonna find a way to charge you for that Apple watch somehow. Make sure to ask for an itemized charges list.

Former Kia Spectra owner - an absolute lemon and the dealer and later the company itself did nothing to rectify the endless electrical issues and said it wasn’t their fault. I tell anyone and everyone to avoid Kia.

I worked retail at a Big Box Best Buy competitor and they were having a promotion with 'Interest Free For A Year*'. So, the '*' was something that some people could not understand, apparently.

The '*' meant that you, the purchaser, had to make the 'standard payments', WITH INTEREST, and you got credit for the interest you paid at the END of the promotion.

The number of brain donors that thought that meant they didn't have to make ANY payments was embarrassing. I remember one particular argument at the 'customer services' window where someone was trying to argue that 'interest free' actually meant 'payment free', so the store was going to hear from their attorney over the repossession of their TV.

But it was in the contract, in plain UPPER CASE LETTERS, that they HAD to make payments WITH INTEREST, and would be credited the interest at the end of the promotion. If they didn't make full payments ON TIME, they didn't get the credit, but they HAD TO CONTINUE MAKING 'NORMAL PAYMENTS' for the duration of the LOAN.

Stupid Human Tricks are becoming more and more numerous. Idiocracy was a documentary of where the world is headed, and it bombed at the box office. (Irony is not dead)

And no one I knew would touch that 'promo' with a 50 foot pole.

Get the charger!

The reason I said this is that I was pricing out a Tesla a few years ago, and the charger wasn't included. It was big money, and on back order. How can a company sell a device that needs to be charged without a charger? And have the charger on back order. Wow...

Get the charger. Even if one is included. Get a spare. You really might end up needing it, more than a watch...

Sure include an at-home charger, but forget to mention that it could cost thousands of dollars to install...not everyone has a close box with available slots for breakers.
Electric hookups are your responsibility. You need to increase the electric load capacity of your house most likely.

Except for range and ease of refueling, I've come to despise internal combustion engine vehicles.
All hail the coming of EVs.

It's never free. It's built into the price of the car. And if you get a loan, you will be basically paying for that watch for years, with interest. Don't fall for the gimmick.
