I’m not saying there is any obligation at all, but the ratio of immigration to population shows how much a society is willing or able to absorb from other cultures and can be an indicator of how tolerant/welcoming it is (or at least, how welcoming its government is), which was the point of the comment it was replying to. It‘s much easier to assimilate the same number of immigrants when your population is larger.
Unfortunately tolerance to immigration has gone in cycles in the U.S., and demagogues have latched onto it as an easy scapegoat for social issues.

Non sequitur. A republic full of dumb voters isn’t any better than a democracy full of dumb voters.
It is when the government is decentralized. This gives people the ability to locate to places where "dumb voters" are not the majority. This is what is sad about people wanting more and more central authority. It makes a presidential election (pick your poison) waaaaaay more consequential to your daily life than it should be. But I guess you are right when everywhere is full!!

The U.S. government is not at all decentralized anymore.

so if my parent were criminals it's my fault and i can't vote?
YES.

In East Asian culture, the idea of vengeance is very profound. A baby child of a criminal may spend all his life rising a daughter to be a beautiful assassin to seduce and kill the Emperor. That’s just an example. Even after decades or generations of inaction, a devastating revenge can happen. Families, as in, anyone who bears the same family name, wives included, often act as a singular unit. Just like the Five Eyes, or NATO to a much lessor extent.

This is why in East Asia, criminals are killed with all their spouses, children, parents, siblings, servants and maids. This has only been relaxed after the WWII after many millennials.

Children of criminals cannot access sensitive part of a society is a residual policy of that long tradition. Voting and party membership is only a tiny part of that restriction.

They can’t become public servants and they can’t join the police or the military, etc.

They can’t get passport very easily, and are constantly screened.

They may be going through extra scrutiny when leaving one city to the other, or flying, or taking a train.

They can’t be admitted into selective university programs.

They can’t join research facilities and defence related industries, like going to Mars.

They also can’t become teachers, professors, doctors, etc.

They cannot incorporate serious businesses.

Basically, anything related to public security and trust.

They can be peasants or small tradesmen, etc.

So, when you commit a crime you have to think of your (extended) families and would be families. That has profound implications to all of them for generations.

That's my point!! And there are so many cheerleaders on here for MORE centralized authoritarianism because you know, the common good and all.

Again, no country on the planet has accepted more immigrants, or more poor immigrants, than the U.S.
Again, the total number doesn’t really mean much when you are talking about a country‘s qualities such as tolerance if you don’t consider overall population size. If a country of 1000 accepts 30 immigrants and another country of 100 accepts 10, which is more tolerant?

Huh? How do you think we got here? Because of dumb voters. With each new election, our government becomes more and more centralized.

I guess you don’t want to talk about Canada anymore since Canada’s numbers are atrocious. I don’t blame you.

Pure nonsense. Canada accepts almost no Third World immigrants thanks to its points-based immigration system.
Nope, Canadians do take in a lot of refugees, and it’s causing some unease. Just look at how brown Canada is.

The point system is basically full of international students, economic-class workers, and meri-based family sponsorships, which is pretty nice. They do bring good to Canada. The refugees though, they bring nothing but problems, drains public fund, and refuses to assimulate to become Canadians. They have a lot of rights, and they will show you who is the boss on your own turf. They have radical religions that’s not compatible to the western society, they are disrespectful, and they harass Western women for not wrapping themselves in black bedsheets. What a joke.

“Nope”? Look at the chart posted above. Canada took in a piddly 3,400 Mexicans, compared to tens of millions in the U.S. No Central American country even made the list. Canada has a points-based immigration system that keeps out almost all poor immigrants.

Immigrants are good, but “poor immigrants“, aka., refugees, are not.

Good immigrants want to become Americans or Canadians, they already love it here. They become eligible because the system has deemed that they have a lot to add to the society.

Refuges? Not so much.

Agreed. The U.S. foolishly accepts a lot of both. Canada accepts almost no poor immigrants who aren’t refugees.

Mexican refugees are not common in Canada, but the Middle East type are rampant. Sigh.

Let me guess: You’re a “My body, my choice!” type who supports Covid vaccine mandates?

How did I know?

I don’t know if I’ve ever said “my body my choice” - but I do think abortion should be an option. I would personally like to see it become unnecessary and not used by implementing better social safety nets for mothers, universal healthcare, better sex-ex, and free and easily available contraceptives. Just look at Colorado - they have cut their abortion rate in half in recent years… not by outlawing it… but with better social programs.

I see abortion as very different than vaccines though. The biggest difference is that one only effects the mother… vs vaccines effecting _everyone_. Also: we’ve mandated vaccines for a long time in our society - what would be different about mandating this one?

Let ME guess: you’re a “Pro-life”, “all lives matter”, Christian that doesn’t care that 635,000 US citizens have died and aren’t willing to do even the smallest thing to keep more from dying. I’m sure Jesus is going to welcome you with open arms…

”The smallest thing”? That’s funny. We’re in Month 18 of “15 days to flatten the curve.”

They’re not common because Canada doesn’t accept them.
Middle East type are worse though, because they are radically religious and expansionary. They don’t want to become Canadians, they just want to turn Canada into where they came from.

Mexicans at least are willing to be a part of the society, instead of subverting it.

No. Mexicans are a main reason the U.S. has lurched so far to the left. Just look at California.

Yep. Firstly, if everyone would have followed the recommendations from the beginning, instead of crying “muh freedom”, like my 2 year old, we may have been able to avoid this - and we definitely would have had far less deaths.

Secondly - why not do what’s necessary to end this now? If everyone would get vaxxed we could seriously be done with this.

I bet you’re too busy posting memes about the 13 soldiers that died in Afghanistan to be able to get vaxxed.

I also bet that you haven’t posted any memorials for the many more people who died from COVID in the military. Why don’t they matter?

You can’t be serious.
