I'm not a iSheep shopping at the iFarm on a regular basis, but I'm willing to pay up to $1500 for that 5.4 iPhone Pro. I just love the current 5.8 model, but I think a smaller phone with slightly smaller bezels will look absolutely perfect. I'm pretty sure the 5.4 model will be to smallest and most functional/futuristic phone on the market ever!

I'm you on the 5.4 design. Not with you on the 1500 price that you are OK with. That's the price of a nice MacBook Pro with Touch Bar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do not think the base price will increase.
Apple will absorb this or find a way to reduce costs.

Increasing the base price will kill the already dying market share in EU once and for all. Most younger people, especially students are already out marketed in the EU. Apple fanatics will still buy it though...

I've seen that. More BS from Apple and their apologists (Rene in particular is desperate for Apple to like him and is so anti-Android he recently had to put out an apology video for all his Note 10 lies).

End of the day, the point of sapphire like on watches is to make it more difficult to scratch. Whatever Apple is calling sapphire scratches just as easily as glass. Pointless.

but did you read about how the testing was incorrectly conducted? That’s the specific reason the original video was untrue (you can ignore the Rene Ritchie part if you’re not enamoured).

and, anecdotally, my iPhone X has multiple micro scratches on the display & back glass, yet the lens covers remained totally unscathed.

So Kuo predicts two things pretty much everyone expects, a redesign and 5G support.
In other news, next year I predict that water will still be wet.

I predict it will have an updated processor.

I'm sure he will predict several other versions of design, then claim to be right when one comes off, memory holing all the failed predictions.

With previous iPhones Apple lied and said they use "sapphire" for camera lenses, but testing has consistently proven this was false. They've dropped that lie now that the back of the iPhone 11's are all made from a single piece of glass now anyway, so it wouldn't even make sense.

This is false. Source: I am an engineer who has personally done chemical analysis of an iPhone 6S lens. It is sapphire.

So why does it scratch exactly the same as glass, and exactly different from watch sapphire?

Answer: Apple uses impure sapphire

I think that design has had its time. The current one with rounded edges is so much more appealing. Just reduce the notch or remove it altogether when the technology for under-screen camera and sensors is ready! OK???????

Like nobody saw this coming....... the rumors are getting as boring as the releases.

Was skipping this iPhone since I’m loving my XS Max, however, this solidified it for me. Glad I’m waiting.

AND for those of you that just bought the new iPhone. Enjoy a great new device!

This! I love the design, and if the rumors are true of a 5.4" I will be ecstatic.

Agreed, the size of the X/Xs/11 is one of the reasons I skipped my biennial phone upgrade I've done since the 3Gs. A 5.4" screen is still a little big IMO, but I'll take what I can get I suppose.

Did you read the article? It explains it.

6.7 with 5G and hopefully another camera update.

That's going to be a proper upgrade. I'd jump on that.

Interesting. It seems strange that an S model would have a redesign as opposed to the 11 - maybe they'll skip to 12?

Given that the past 6 iPhone launches have been in 3 year cycles with 2 'S' style updates (6, 6s, 7 and X, Xs, 11 Pro) it shouldn't be too surprising that next year will be a redesign. The naming has gotten a bit dumb though since they've gone into these 3 year design cycles.

The 6.5” is already beyond my comfort level but I “settle” for it because I rather deal with an unwieldy device than go back to a smaller display, so I can’t imagine moving on to an even bigger phone.

Is it possible to increase the display size while keep the dimensions of the device similar to the current 6.5” model?

Yeah, I feel like this is what might be happening. Similar physical size, but the bezels shrinking ever so slightly.

The real answer isn't that "it's not perfect test conditions so the results are invalid" it's that Apple is cheap and uses impure sapphire that is technically sapphire but without the scratch resistant qualities. Even the expensive Apple Watches are weak.

This video shows it all:

It does not scratch exactly the same as glass. These scratch “tests” online are poorly controlled and don’t take into account pressure, contact area, contact surface shape, etc. the entire assemblies are different, likely with different laminated layers of different thickness. That said, if the camera lens does scratch easily in your pocket then it doesn’t particularly matter if the lens is sapphire or not - the scratching is a problem. It might be an academic distinction, but the iPhone lenses are absolutely made of sapphire.

Only so much can be done design wise. I think a iPad Pro type iPhone with a thin profile, reduced notch, true 5G, fingerprint under the screen and an update iOS is going to be a much better upgrade than this year.
I loved my 4/4s I alos like my 11 pro but dont like buggy iOS13 so far. I'll wait till the second year to iorn out any faults with the new hardware, never buy revision one of a new design, and ive done well by that mantra. I don't want a slightly smaller phone myself but I can see its benefits, but i'll have to look and see when we get there. I just wish Apple and other companies would stop using glass both sides tbh.

A lot of other smartphones have built-in fingerprint under the screen and it removes the need of notch screen that really works well for most of the user.

The iPhone 5 was my favorite design because flat sides are a lot better feeling in the hand than rounded ones.
No way, the 5/5s was the worst design to date as it was too light and felt cheap in the hand. iPhones should feel solid, weighty and expensive feeling to touch and the 5/5s felt like is would bend and break given the slightest chance.

Huh?
