So after the new ipads pro that takes on the iphone 4/4s design...now we will have iphone 2020 the same treatment? Very nice

I came here to say that the 2018 iPad Pro I have reminds me of the iPhone 4 design. If Apple does this with the 2020 iPhones it'll remind me of old rock bands who get back together and reminisce about the good old days lol

iPhone numbering seems to be losing its significance. The iPhone 11 pro could be seen as the third iteration of the iPhone X form factor. So next year’s iPhone could mark the start of a new design. It will probably be called the iPhone 12 at any rate.

The number doesn't reflect its iteration. That's really a lazy part of  to come up with something more relevant to its flagship product.

I’ve no problem with this, and great if new construction techniques improve antenna performance, but my one regret if this rumour is true is that Apple isn’t being a bit more adventurous with materials technology for the back.

One thing I loved when going from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5 was the reduction in weight by going from the 4’s glass back to the 5’s metal (aluminium?) back. I know that some people preferred the extra weight of the 4 because they felt that it conveyed a more quality feel but with the current Max model we’re talking about a very heavy phone. I suspect that relatively few people would object to next year’s model shedding a few grams.

I also realise that metal isn’t an option for the back anymore because of wireless charging but Apple must have access to some of the best material scientists; I hope it might be at least exploring lower weight but still classy looking alternatives to glass for the back.

Going back to a classic design, I like it! I really like how they brought the design back with the 2018 IPP's.

Actually the iPhone has been more like 4 year cycles: 4/4S/5/5S I consider essentially the same design (albeit a small rev for the 5/5S), 6/6S/7/8 = same design, the X was sped up & released to due to compete with no-bezel phone competition and the iPhone anniversary.

As I earlier posted, I expect the new redesign in 2021; 2020 I bet is a 11S with 5G, reverse-wireless charging, and some AR camera stuff.

No offense, but I'll bet on Kuo. Especially when your math doesn't work out unless you exclude the X, which is a ridiculous thing to do.

Considering the iPad Pro, it would make sense for them to go in that direction. And unify the line-up a bit. Apple has been lacking there in my opinion...

It is going to be all about delivering a 5G phone that can perform under extreme 5G service. The radio wave is so tight and fast it is going to have to have great antennas and multiple antennas to get the data speeds up as fast as possible. I am sure Apple is working with Qualcomm to maximize 5G radio performance and signal quality on the new phone.

no doubt the iphone 4 was the nicest looking iphone that they have come out with. Not sure how it would translate to a large size though with all the sharp angles that it had

I figured when the 2018 iPad pros came to market that the next form factor iPhone would probably follow suit. very much looking forward to seeing how it pans out. Should be lovely.

Precisel. Apple has realized the newer iPP has been extremely well-received, and has now decided to adopt the same design language for the iPhone (hopefully, assuming Kuo is right).

The squarer edges of the 4 are much easier to hold than the current rounded design, so that is a positive change if Apple go back to that. The shape is one of the reasons I still use an SE (size being the main reason). I would rather they dropped the glass back in favour of something more robust, so a move to the 5/SE design would be my preference, not the 4.

Interesting. It seems strange that an S model would have a redesign as opposed to the 11 - maybe they'll skip to 12?
To be honest Apple kind of shuffled its traditional naming. The 11 is really a XRs and the Pros are more like Xss.

Perhaps they will start a fresh sequence with a brand new 12 followed by 12s in 2021.

I didn't care for the curved edge frame, easier to lose your grip. I am so glad that this retro design may be coming back.

I really hope so. I like the iPhone 4/4S design the best. And make it the same thickness too.
