One problem when a technology is acquired by Apple is it stops progressing. The TouchID sensor hasn't gotten any smaller since the first release; other companies would have been trying to make it smaller/faster/cheaper/more effective, but Apple doesn't because it doesn't fit in their product line anymore.

TouchID got faster - once. That's it.

It's annoying.

So kinda like the Galaxy S10E now

Except without the chin at the bottom.

Just because you can't see the change doesn't mean it didn't get better. The iPad Pro's touchID is much more accurate than on the iPhone 6s, even though they are supposedly the same "generation" of hardware.

Nice to see low power draining LCD is still going to be around. Have played with finger ID on a power button before, it works fine.

I just wish Apple would catch up to Samsung and others and do the under the display fingerprint reader. I do not hate Face ID but it is not always the best "Only Option" for everyday life. Sometimes my phone or iPad is laying flat on a table, and having to pick it up to unlock is sometimes a pain. Over all its a great secure feature but I like the idea of having at least both as an option.

I cannot wait to get touch ID back. My iPhone X is one of the most frustrating devices I have owned. I have to pick it up in a certain way and bring it to a certain position to get it to turn on with a one second delay. Of course many times it won't work because the light or sun is in the wrong position. In the old days my phone would turn on when I was picking it up. It has almost made me go out and get a Galaxy phone for the first time ever. I stay with Apple because I can only assume they will fix this or ditch it, and it is so integrated with my other Apple devices.

Touch ID on the side works quite well on the Galaxy S10e - it's extremely fast. But it's still not the greatest user experience. It's built into the power button, and you can set it to where you only have to make contact (rather than pushing it down) to get it to unlock. But you also have to think a bit more to get your finger on it right as it has to be relatively centered on your finger to work right. It's very fast, and works well most of the time, but in my time with the S10e I still felt the user experience of having it there was less convenient than on the front.... especially when sitting on a desk, or picking it up, or grabbing out of your pocket. You just don't naturally have a finger on the side power button (on the S10e anyway) in any of those situations.

I love my LCD iPhone 11. It's perfect. I simply do not like the OLED in the small form factor. 65 inch TV sure, but phone, no thanks.

I’d say this is pretty accurate. For a larger display for media/movies/gaming, you definitely would appreciate the direct advantages that OLED has over LCD on a 60 inch/65 inch TV. However, In terms of a 6 inch display or smaller on a smart phone, consumers can’t differentiate the differences between LCD versus OLED, and the ones that can, are probably a select few that understand the differences.

1. Face ID sensor on the iPad Pro flushed with the bezel, hence it isn't as ugly as the one in the iPhone.
2. Yep, Touch ID wouldn't work with wet fingers. But Face ID wouldn't work with face that doesn't get in line either.

I could unlock with Touch ID while I lift the phone, or getting it out of my pocket. Couldn't do that with Face ID.

There is always trade offs, but Touch ID is the simply a better, and faster biometric.
The opposite goes for people who need to wear gloves in very cold places. But if you have to cover your face too, then only entering the PIN is what works best.

I'm not happy with the side buttons on my XR, although the size, weight and case may be factors compared to my previous SE. I find the buttons awkward to press, and quite often press them accidentally. I hope Apple is looking closely at this usability issue.

Passcode is a PITA. Apple should borrow pattern unlock.
Pattern unlock shows the pattern as you draw it, making it easier to be spotted by other people, cameras, etc.

I get what you say, but Apple put it there to make it easier to push buttons on both sides in case or an emergency (to automatically call for help)

Pattern unlock is archaic and dated. There’s a definitive reason why Apple is choosing _not_ to ‘borrow’ something less intuitive when Face ID is using 3-D facial mapping or even touch ID is highly more simplistic than pattern lock.

Read before quickly replying and apologizing. We're talking about backup unlock when biometric fails.

I didn’t read your previous posts with another member, nor do I have to. My point still stands, there’s a reason Apple has never chosen a dated/archaic technology with pattern lock. It’s been around forever With its cumbersome vulnerabilities, Face ID/touch ID trumps that to the point where pattern is unwarranted.

Showing pattern can be toggled off but if you're talking about someone looking over your shoulder both pin and passcode are just as susceptible. That's why you cover it just like when you put in pin at ATM.

So looking forward to 3 more years of Notches. This is why Apple is worth 1.4 trillion now. No one cares that they suck.

am i the only one who doesn't have a problem with face ID? i was skeptical at first but my iPx has been working fine.

how would the side button work for those with phone cases?

what i would like is the face ID sensors be under the screen and remove the notch. although that has grown on me.

also - i haven't fully investigated KUO's previous claims on apple's products but how often is he/she right/wrong? a lot of times these things don't make sense.

Faulty sensor maybe, mine works 100%

Man, I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

Well done, 10 minutes later and I am still LOL.🏆

Kuo is rarely wrong, in fact...I think he gets his information directly from Apple
