1. Face ID sensor on the iPad Pro flushed with the bezel, hence it isn't as ugly as the one in the iPhone.
2. Yep, Touch ID wouldn't work with wet fingers. But Face ID wouldn't work with face that doesn't get in line either.

I could unlock with Touch ID while I lift the phone, or getting it out of my pocket. Couldn't do that with Face ID.

There is always trade offs, but Touch ID is the simply a better, and faster biometric.

In my experience Face ID is a lot faster than Touch ID.
Also, a lot of people are saying that you need to get your face aligned well with the phone to unlock, etc. You don't. The beauty of Face ID as compared to Touch ID is that it learns over time. At this point it can recognize me almost all the time even if it IS lying flat on a table. It's almost scary good.

Face ID is just as fast, if not faster than Touch ID, and it's way better at recognizing me than Touch ID ever was.

Cool. I was just making a comparison.
I gotcha, man... it was a good note & that is really cool tech!
The gentle ribbing was on Samsung for putting such a hip feature in a “budget” phone, that (sadly) not that many people will purchase or even be aware of.
No dig against your informative comment whatsoever, to be clear.

I can't envision a TouchID sensor on the side of the phone. There's not room for it on the side, unless it's the finger-slide type of sensor.
Also, if it's on the side, it may not be easy to use with either hand, perhaps just with the right hand.
Kuo's report makes no sense, at least for now.
There are some Android phones that put the fingerprint sensor on the side.

I just think it's interesting they spent a lot of money and time and R&D making a newly designed LOW COST option. Doesn't seem like Apple, but who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Many of those who are into Face ID are the very same people who will be into Touch ID once it is a feature again on iPhone

TouchID and FaceID both have tradeoffs

but the former unlocks the phone in with less compromises than FaceID

lot of times the “enter passcode for FACEID to work” is there popping up too, a lot.

with FACEID many times it doesnt

1. when you are lying by your side
2. when its really dark

TouchID just WORKS

if it will remove the notch too allowing for a uniformed bezel iPhone then it will be the only redesign that users will be waiting

because as long as the FACEID is there, not even year 2021 you will see a notchless or a new front design for iPhone, easily.

Speak for yourself. I had some doubts before I bought my launch day iPhone X( first gen right out the gate).

To this day the experience has been excellent and would never go back. I don’t even think about Touch ID.
I’ve had my Xs before a touchID MacBook Pro. I also recently purchased my first iPad Pro (2017) second hand. TouchID feels like the stone age after FaceID. For those who are having trouble with FaceID, something is clearly wrong with how it was setup.

Yes.

it may work best for Macbooks since there are lesser angles you might be using your macbook

but with a phone, its different.

Yeah, on macbooks i think it would be great, cause you look at the screen directly anyway. On the iPhone i find it a bit of a chore.

When i lie in my bed, my phone next to me, i have to pick it up, and point it to my face to unlock it... so much fun. When i'm at a meeting and wanna look at my phone under the table, not possible anymore, cause i have to type my pin. In the winter it has issues with my scarf and so on. It's not that bad, and i got used to it, but thats the problem, it created issues i didn't have before. But i know why they did, so i will be patient and wait till we get TouchID back.

edit:
FaceID can never be fast then TouchID, cause if you pick your phone from your pocket and holding it right, it was unlocked before you pulled it out, where with FaceID you still have to look at your screen.

Put it in the middle of the phone so left and right handed people can use it by flipping the phone.

Yes! Looking forward to getting touchID back so I can keep my phone in my pocket while driving. With my 11 pro max, Siri tells me I have to unlock the phone before she will read messages over Bluetooth. My 8+ was much easier and safer to just touch the button still in my pocket to unlock and not take my eyes off the road. The cops around here prefer it put away also, LOL.

Makes sense from a cost perspective. This is the SE2 Plus.

Cutting a notch or teardrop in the LCD glass reduces yield significantly. It's much easier to cut on flexible OLED film. But this model uses LCD. A fingerprint sensor also costs less than the IR camera and dot projector setup.
Yeah, it's just the faceID hardware which will save the cost. I don't think poor yield of notch-ed LCD is a factor... else, we wouldn't have iPhone 11 with the notch.

Touch ID is still better, faster, and easier when using Apple Pay. But Face ID is fine with everything else.
I have never used TouchID for Apple Pay. Apple pay wasn't there in my country then. But I do use it now with FaceId, and have absolutely no issues, or have never felt it's slow or difficult.

You know, there are phones that has the fingerprint reader on the power button, which is located on the side of the phone for years. Give you an example, my old and trusty Xperia XZ. That small button is enough to read the fingerprint by resting the finger on it and no need to slide. (The phone is 8.1 mm thick, meanwhile the iPhone X is 7.7 mm thick)

And, you can also register more than 1 finger. For my case, I registered the right thumb, right inder, left index and left middle fingers.

Face ID is not working well in China or Asia now. People wearing mask to prevent coronavirus and need to risk their lives to expose their faces to unlock the phone.
Or register a second face?

Totally with you on this.
Touch ID fails to unlock anything as soon as my finger starts to have any moisture. (True for my 5S, 6S, 8, and iPad mini 4 so far)

Exaggerated claim, while FaceID maybe limited to these minor use cases, when not detected it will prompt password entry. So not a big issue as it is being made out to be.

What would be great is having FaceID, power button TouchID and manual password entry.

iPhone 11 is still a $700 device.

SE2 Plus is likely targeted at $450 or less, especially if Apple wants wiggle room in price sensitive markets like India. Apple could have used a more graceful in-display fingerprint solution, but again cost is an issue.

I think the power button on the side of the iPhone actually improved, Apple elongated it where it’s easier to reach with your thumb.

also, as an iPhone SE owner previously, I never had an issue with the power button being on top/inadvertently pushingit. I assume others wouldn’t either, especially if you’re using a case, really shouldn’t be a problem.
