I hope so! Face ID is cool but like many said, the masks...well that was -is- a royal pain!

My watch is STILL buggy when it comes to unlocking my phone, works one time, fails other times. I was having issues unlocking it this morning. And yes I still wear a mask in stores)

Anyway, I do miss the touch ID

iPhone without notch with touch id under display is better than face id with notch. I don’t believe apple can implement the whole face id components behind the display.

TouchID rocks, even though FaceID mostly works with a mask. Now that masks aren't mandatory FaceID works better, but it's still slower than TouchID IMO. With FaceID my phone is always demanding my attention; with TouchID I can just swing the phone up and it's ready-to-go.

You can disable the need for attention to unlock with Face ID but that would make it less secure. About the speeds - they're mostly on par. The difference is less than a second.

Why would Apple will have a notch and screen fingerprint together?

Apple may introduce finger screen print along with a side button for Touch ID like the iPad Air.
2 ways for touchID makes no sense. A lot of people would be annoyed if they took away FaceID.

Sigh...... I was really hoping to get this during this year's release so that we get to choose freely between the two.......

Guess that's not gonna happen in this coming upgrade. 🥲

Why only 2022? It's a pandemic, which rendered FaceID useless (masks), come on, you had more than a year to "innovate"
They’ve actually had even longer. Before the X released there was rumors of them working on under display Touch ID.

I have it on my new test phone, a Galaxy A52 and I have to say it works very well, especially for a 300€ phone and the visual of „pressing“ it and how it makes your thumb glow up is weirdly satisfying 😅

Love FaceID and it's even better now with the Apple Watch update.
Its buggy and lets be honest, to get FaceID to work one needs to spend an addition 300+ on a watch at least. Thats not really practical for most. When it works its great, when it doesn't its annoying.

If it has under screen TouchID then I'll upgrade from my iPhone 8. FaceID is useless for me when I'm on my Motorcycle because of the full face crash helmet. Taking a glove off is an order of magnitude easier than removing the helmet.
I'm surprised more people aren't complaining. Besides motorcyclist, you would think that there are many other people who may need to access their phone while something is covering their face (for example: medical field workers, nail salon workers, torch welders, Muslim women, bank robbers, mascots, Time Square Elmos, people like me that aren't vaccinated and will continue wearing a mask for years to come). People, let your voices be heard!

Until Apple can build Face ID under the display the notch will remain. I don't see Apple abandoning Face ID imo.

It might mean you have two methods to log in and can use both for 2FA.
It might but that's unlikely. It costs too much. Apple probably would not be able to raise prices because of two authentication modes and if that is the case it would hit profit margins.
