There’s still plenty of time for this to change. It’s not surprising mini’s haven’t sold well. I love mine but 2020/21 have been the years of the screen. If/when things get back to normal there’ll continue to be a focus on reduced screen time.

48 megapixels and 8k video is quite a jump! Periscope telephoto lens and under-display Face ID in 2023 will also be nice. Hopefully Apple will also introduce a flat camera bump without the individual lens protrusions.

My understanding is that Apple has not tried hard to sell the Mini. Or, said differently, their strategy of trying to push people to the most expensive models is working too well. Removing the mini will disappoint those who do not want that large and expensive a phone, but still a modern design. Unless the SE (version whatever they make at that time) takes the space left empty.

The iPhone X will be 6 years old in 2023. Do you normally hang onto a phone that long as your daily driver?

Many people do. I am using a 6s I bought about 4.5 years ago, am still happy with it, and am planning to using it for at least one more year, if not longer. Released in September 2015...

As for future iPhones, Kuo says that Apple will adopt a periscope telephoto lens in 2023, along with under-display Face ID, which would presumably see the elimination of the notch. Kuo previously said that Apple would introduce a hole-punch front camera in the 2022 iPhone and that at least one iPhone in 2023 would feature under-display Touch ID and a full-screen display with no notch or holes.
That would be very unfortunate if Apple decides to go with under-display Face ID and skips Touch ID. Using Apple Pay at the grocery store with a mask on is way too much effort right now, I've resorted to using my contactless credit card because it is just so much faster.

I mean if it works for you that’s good but man that’s some ancient tech...I used to upgrade every single year since my first iPhone with the 4S when it came to sprint but I stopped that with the iPhone X. Held on to it for 4 years and upgraded with the launch of the iPhone 12. The phones are just so well made these days I don’t see the point of upgrading so often. I won’t upgrade till 2022 at the earliest.

Apple software is light years ahead of Android crap. But I really wish the hardware wasn't years and years behind. Xiaomi has had TouchID integrated into screens for four years, 48MP cams for three (they even had 108MP Samsung ISOCELL ones) etc. Gets a bit tiring to get warmed up hardware for $1000+ only so we can use Apple's superior software. Not gonna lie.

48MP outputting 12Megapixels will mean a decade of no resolution increase for Apple. (as this sensor will be used for years again)

You can pull your mask down for two seconds and scan your face for Apple Pay. Pretty simple. If I was Apple I wouldn’t design the phone around the mask. Makes zero sense. The mask will go away and if they do linger around a bit mask have been a part of Asian culture long before COVID.

Many people do. If you are not someone that doesn't live their life on a phone it is easy to have the same phone for 5 or 6 years.

Although not an iPhone, both my wife and I are using the Samsung Phones we bought in 2015. It still does the job it was designed to do. So why update for no reason.

Let's be real: Most people buy big-ass-screen phones, because of "WOAH, BIG SCREEN, SO PRETTY!"
The same as "WOAH, this TV is so bright and colorful!" and "This stereo is sooo loud!"

EDIT: Unless, of course, it's an iPad. Then a bigger display is waaayyyy to cumbersome and unwieldy.

Predicting 2 years ahead is challenging even for Kuo
While I believe the 2H22 camera will be different and better Kuos description isn’t impressive
Will the notch finally disappear or become an Apple trademark??
And what happened to Underscreen Touch ID Kuo predicted previously???
Sounds like prototypes that are being tested

That pretty much decides my dilemma of buying an m1x(?) imac or building a pc as my workstation. Better prepare for leaving the ecosystem if there is no suitable iphone to replace my SE when the time comes.

This is a rumour that totally makes sense.
IMHO, Offering a 6.7 inch non-pro model in 2022 is a must. At the same time it allows them to drop the price of the 6.1 inch non-pro to $699. So the line-up of the new models in the fall of 2022 would look as follows:

6.1 inch non-pro $699
6.7 inch non-pro $799
6.1 inch pro $999
6.7 inch pro $1099

In addition Apple might sell the following phones:

4.7 inch SE 2022 $399
iPhone 12 mini $499
iPhone 12s/13 mini $599

As for the cameras, at some point Apple will want to go beyond 4K so they need sensors with more megapixels.
