Everybody prior to iPhone 12 Mini: "Apple needs to make a smaller version of the phone - I'd buy it immediately!"

48 megapixel camera with 2.5x optical zoom? nobody needs 48 megapixels on a mobile camera, good optical zoom on the other hand...
I think it’s more the other way round. I don’t think great zoom is a must for the average user. Most want great stills with a point and shoot. Good zoom is great but I wouldn’t say it’s a must have for most people with what they take photos for

i guess your opinion is as good(or bad) as mine. i'm thinking of all the hiking i've been doing whilst social distancing. i could really go for a 4-5x zoom. the stills imho are just fine, unless we get into the whole low light discussion)

I agree great zoom is only thing really missing from the iPhone camera. Sounds like got to wait two years and hopefully will be worth the wait

There's a point at which chasing more pixels doesn't make sense for most uses, and 8K is definitely past that.
As I see it, that is the point. Increasing output device resolution to the point where it ceases to be a limitation, and technical evolution focuses on other concerns.
You know, just like Retina displays. I really appreciate not seeing pixellated text and content anymore.

And this may only be a small point, but 8K has a vertical resolution of 4320. Decades worth of SD 480 content goes into it an even 9 times. Watching old content on an 8K TV should look slightly better than on 4K.

Let’s face it Apple will add 8K when the quality is good enough right now and last year Samsung added it to be first. Doesn’t mean it good enough currently

Totally agree. Being first is not always the best. 8k on a phone right now is kinda pointless.

That will not be an issue by 2023. Considering the lack of mask compliance here in NYC, which is supposed to be a bastion of good, complying Democrats, I have no doubt no one will be wearing masks 2 whole years from now. And besides, this will be past us anyway. Under-display Face ID goooooooooooo!
Oh fun, I woke up to find that “Precursor” went on a drunken thumbs-down spree on multiple articles I commented on across a large swath of time Lmao
