Nope, higher costs based on taxes or tariffs will be reverted.
If Apple are faced with increased tariffs because of dealings with china then your iPhone will go up in price across the board & what they will probably say is due to the increase in technology in the product that’s why the price has went up
Some garbage like that

Admit one doesn’t know what Apple will do. We can speculate and opine but it’s the rubber that meets the road that counts.

Naa, Apple Products are not like fuel and groceries...they are not an inelastic good. There is a cap, and there is a point when sales will drop.
So you think that if Apple are faced with an extra cost due to these tariffs then they won’t increase prices & just absorb the costs to take a hit on profits?

I guess creating American manufacturing is just not going to be considered.
I'd buy American.

But we need to raise our own game on the manufacturing side. I don't buy American cars because the quality was allowed to get so bad. By 2004, I was done. And it was Corvette that ended up being the straw that broke THIS camel's back. Seriously! If your Corvette, your flagship badge, can turn away an IT guy with money, then you're not doing right by your (formerly) loyal customers.

Since then, I've driven BMW, Acura (Honda), Toyota, and Nissan. ALL OF THEM WERE BETTER THAN ANY GM I'VE EVER OWNED.

Fix the quality problem that American workers think is permissible, and I'll consider coming back. Get spendy on union "gimmee" programs, and I'll still buy from overseas; I'll just buy 25% less often so that it will all even out in the end.

No but what we do know is when companies are faced with increased costs then rather than absorb these costs to come out of profits they will raise prices to make up the shortfall

Why do you think companies like ford build their cars in Mexico & not the USA and it’s not because Americans can’t do it.

Just skip the annual upgrade cycle. Stick with your current phone until it no longer meets your needs. Neither the government nor tech companies are particularly concerned about your personal finances.
I already wait 3-4 years before upgrading my phone, tablet, and so forth. It's been more than 6 for my Apple Watch. By delaying my upgrades, I delay my payments in taxes and tariffs.

I'm going to upgrade my M1 MBP this year to an M4. But with the tariffs, I might just wait until 2026 and go to an M5 (or whatever).

There's no reason to panic, not even in the stock market (which I have been mostly in cash for a month now). Things go in cycles, and this will too.

This administration is basing its economic policy on right-wing fantasies (which, by definition, is currently based on Bannon-driven reptilian instincts and not on actual high-level research), and it shows.
Despite being all crazy there are some knowledgeable people in this administration's orbit who know exactly what this move will do...and the crazies are counting on it. A distracted, impoverished and demoralized population will be easier to control. At least that's what they're counting on. If fear is a persistent mindset it becomes harder to mobilize resistance.

I guess creating American manufacturing is just not going to be considered.
Never in the cards realistically. American workers would not accept low enough wages to bring large scale manufacturing back to the U.S.--that ship has sailed. And if some of it came back it would take years and billions upon billions to make it happen. You cannot take the circumstances of the 19th century or 1950s and force fit it into the 21st century. And no sane business will gamble investing billions to setup shop in a politically and economically volatile country you cannot trust.

Folks need to understand these are reciprocal tariffs. They're meant to freak the global market out, and countries will lower tariffs on US goods to compensate and get their tariffs lowered by the US. Israel already made theirs 0%. Trump will probably give special deals to Canada and Mexico if/when they do more about border security.
The U.S. is not being exploited by anyone. Just as Trump loves to play the victim to justify doing what he wants this time he is playing the U.S. as an economic victim when, in fact, it certainly is not. A trade deficit is not losing money. It means the U.S. economy is stronger than another nation's and can afford to buy more from them than they can afford to buy from the U.S. That difference between what the U.S. buys and what another country buys is referred to as a deficit, but it's not a negative as the term might imply. It's just a difference, not a negative.

The motivations and strategies are crystal clear:
  • Motivation: Preserve tax breaks that disproportionately benefit the wealthiest Americans
  • Strategy 1: Cut federal programs and services that largely benefit average and low income citizens
  • Strategy 2: Impose tariffs that amount to a tax on goods purchased by average Americans. Tariffs are basically a regressive tax that disproportionately burden lower-income households.
All of the rest is just chatter. So, of course, you are going to pay more for Apple products.....and just about everything else.

I think they will absolutely raise prices, and I think sales will drop in response.
You are right in that prices will go up & sales will potentially slow
However they won’t get reduced because people will eventually pay it
This is why the iPhone 16E has went up by about 180 to set the scene for the price increase coming in September

I don't care much about Ford. I had a Mazda, which at the time was partly owned by Ford. The Mazda was great, but other than that, Ford had nothing that appealed to me. But at least they weren't letting their quality go down.

Yes, prices will rise for Americans. They have to. The President has even said that this will be painful at first. After all, nobody can build a factory in a week.

But there's a vision of a better America happening here, and I think we need to give the President a chance.

The reason why American companies make their products overseas is because it’s cheaper so then they pay their workers less & when these companies make their products in America they will become dearer as a consequence because they have to pay their workers more money
that is why Americans will pay more for their products regardless
