The reason why American companies make their products overseas is because it’s cheaper so then they pay their workers less & when these companies make their products in America they will become dearer as a consequence because they have to pay their workers more money
that is why Americans will pay more for their products regardless
So it’s only American companies that make products in China?

That’s not what I said the reason why companies like Apple & ford make their products in places like china is because it’s cheaper to pay workers & the conditions are not the same.
But if these companies start making their products in the USA then workers will have to get paid more & they will have better conditions so naturally the prices of the products will go up.
Its the exact same as putting tariffs on medicines in Ireland because America source a lot from their & if companies are forced to buy American then the prices will go up & then his buddies will make more money
Tariffs go on iPhones go up means more profit for Apple

Sure. Companies like Samsung, Volkswagen, Sony and ikea do the same.

And the exact same rational to be applied to Samsung, VW, Sony and IKEA.

His buddies?

No it doesnt because tariffs are a tax.

Ramping up production in India may result in increased quality issues. Putting pressure on suppliers may also result in quality issues. Carrier subsidies may only have a marginal effect at best. Lowering trade in values will just push more people to go elsewhere with their trade-ins. Increasing the cost would probably be the best way to offset the tariffs and that probably was Tim’s first thought when the mention of tariffs came up. Of course Apple could eat the tariffs and still make a healthy profit on each unit sold, but Tim doesn’t roll that way.

So minimum wages went up without tariffs. How is that explained.
Because as a consequence of the companies having to pay their workers more they put their prices up to combat that or else it would be less profit for the company
That is why if these tariffs are implemented then everyone’s iPhones will go up in price

What about this: Apple could leave U.S.?
As if Trump would allow that.

He has already threatened 25% tariffs on countries that buy Venezuela oil and gas.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday issued an executive order declaring that any country buying oil or gas from Venezuela will pay a 25% tariff on trades with the U.S.

Trump could slap tariffs on countries that do business with Apple and its suppliers. He could hurt Apple by preventing Taiwan Semiconductor from getting access to ASML's advanced lithography machines like the U.S. has done to China. He could block the export of U.S.-made semiconductors.

Not all Americans will pay regardless, but most people buying Apple products will probably put up with the increase if the upgrades Apple offers is compelling enough. The Vision Pro may not survive an increase.

The US consumer tapped out with heavy debt loads. The way these tariffs were implemented, no place to run and hide. In the past, washing machines got a tariff, manageable. Today every product getting a tariff. The concept buy American made to save money, a pipe dream. American companies will raise their prices just under the tariffs. Apple products have always been an economic stretch for many. Will see how Apple responds.

That explanation is not related to my op. Basically some motherhood and apple pie stuff. A business expenses go up and the business potentially can raise prices. Ok.

Is Kuo spouting the obvious here? Is Apple not aware of any way their tariff impact can be reduced?

But they knew this was coming. Trump told them this was coming. Apple STILL announced $500 billion in American investment about a month ago knowing that tariffs were in play. We all assume that business leaders will be upset by the tariffs, but that may not be totally true.
I think those tech leaders were hoping for special exemptions that didn’t happen.

There are other expensive smartphones and possibly this doesn’t bode well for them either.

Apple could respond by not increasing prices this year and waiting to see if the tariffs are reduced by the end of the year. They would still make a healthy profit on each unit sold, just not the outrageous markup they usually get. In other words, Apple could offer some goodwill to customers which they could also promote in ads that could lead to higher sales of the 17 lineup later this year if Apple hints in those ads that prices may go up in 2026 if the tariffs stick. I’ll do my part by getting a 17 Pro.

This is day 1 after the announcement.
kuo has some ideas, and the supply chain folks at Apple and the other companies have some ideas.
We’ll have to see what really happens, time will tell, everything else is just speculation…

Apple could also offer goodwill by reducing prices on hardware now. It’s all well and good to throw the word goodwill around, I don’t expect it from any company selling me a product.
