I already felt iPad Air getting OLED didn’t make any sense, and Apple agrees with that. If iPad Pro 12.9” doesn’t get OLED, iPad Air will not, or otherwise where’s iPad Pro’s display advantage over iPad Air?

Getting harder and harder for me to be motivated to upgrade ANYTHING Apple this year.

Would have upgraded one of my iPads to something OLED, now.....meh.

I went into the summer expecting to upgrade my 11PM, Mini 5, and even my AW6. Same for my GF with her XS max and AW3, now......we "might" get the 13PM around the holidays, if at all.

News like this doesn't help to motivate me.

From "I have to have the latest and greatest" to "what I have works so well I'll just.....not" in 2 short years.
You realize there’s already a better display in the current pro 12.9 than what would’ve been offered next year in the Air?

And that better display will be offered in the 11” next update?

Mini-Led has many advantages over OLED.
One of the most important is brightness during HDR.
Oled is better at perfect contrast and black uniformity. That’s it.

It more and more seems like LED (MicroLED in marketing-speak) will be the true successor to LCD and not OLED. Problem is: it’s still probably a decade away for the mainstream customer.

it's not ideal but if you have a laptop with it, you might like them. Fear of burn-in is there for me though.
But they just need to improve those screens in the Air. They are ok but not particularly good

Agreed, the blacks were deeper and whites were crispier in my old Air 2 compared to the current Air 4.

Is there any actual proof it affects anyone?
I'm not questioning that it impacts some, just like some people are more sensitive to sunlight than others, but, it was a not so smart statement by the poster ...

I literally just said I see it. Read more, talk less? It's annoying at best, and people say it causes headaches. Why not believe them and wait for a study?

I read what you wrote. “Maybe you can” means “i have no reason to know whether what you are saying is true.”

As for “wait for a study,” how long shall I wait? PWM has been used for many years. Should we just believe every outrageous claim until such time as a study comes out to DIS-prove it? Is that how the burden of proof works now?

Just looking on these boards even more tech savvy consumers don’t understand OLED’s limitations. Trying to get millions of normal customers to understand would be an uphill battle.

Millions of normal customers seem to be enjoying OLED on their iPhones just fine, me including. 😊🖐

Except that there is no blooming with OLED.

Exactly. If you are willing to deal with all its flaws for that then it’s worth it.
OLED progression has stalled. LG charges 2k extra for their “bright” OLED’s that produce 150 more lumens than cheap models.

I’m starting to think Apple is cracking down on leaks more now, not because of leaking releases, but the expectations these leakers are setting. It’s leading to lots of disappointments, and customer are now starting to blame/call out Apple. Maybe the Air was never getting OLED, but now people held off, and are disappointed because of these rumors.

Of course it does. It exhausting for your eyes/brain to deal with it. Some people are more sensitive some are not but it is making you more tired. Do you need a study to know something is bad?
I don't need a study to know that if I smoke cigarettes its bad for me. Its just common sense.
If a lot of people have the issue than do you really need doctor's stamp on it? What happens if the study is biased (as has happened in the past many many times) do you take it as truth or you look for another study?

Anyway, you get the point. Any flickering is not good really for your eyes/brain to deal with. Its common sense here.

Remember the old 50Hz vs 100Hz TVs?

You just repeating “of course it does” doesn’t make it true. Old TVs never hurt me, and neither do OLEDs. What you are saying is that the fact there is no study is proof that it is bad? Or that it is unreasonable to study anything because a study could be bad, therefore we should just assume it this is bad?

Billions of people are exposed to this every day, and the only people complaining about it are a subset of forum posters who can never cite any proof.

Yup and iPhones get real bright, as you increase OLED screen size it becomes much harder. Have you seen lumen ratings for high end OLED?

Of course people enjoy their phones, it doesn’t mean the display technology is correct for a larger device though.

Yes, but the regular iphones will be getting Pro motion next year at the least, and they are not Pro devices. £300 Android phones have 120hz displays, so there is only so long that Apple can get away with only having this as a ‘Pro’ feature.
Who said the non-Pro models are getting 120Hz?

Ross Young, who currently has been so correct about this display stuff, has shared that the next year's lineup will be similar. 14 and 14 Max will have 60Hz, and the Pro models will be able to go as low as 1Hz (maybe finally AOD).

I don't get why do you think PRO Motion is gonna happen on NON PRO Devices anytime soon. It's not like Apple has ditched the notch. They won't dilute their models like that, yet.

so those complaining on "these boards" are clearly not the majority of users ... millions have no issues but we always tend to believe the few who complain ...

You should question it. It’s a rather extraordinary claim to say that high duty cycle but high frequency flickering that occurs outside the range of human perception somehow causes medical issues. That is the sort of extraordinary claim that needs proof - it’s not incumbent on the doubter to prove that the extraordinary claim is false.

I don’t see any limitations in my daily use. I have an OLED-based iPhone 12 mini and LCD-based iPad Air 4 and that small OLED screen looks way better. 🖐

Your Air 4 is using lcd technology apples been using in the iPad since 2016 (9.7 pro). The new pro 12.9 is the only iPad using current technology.
“I have a state of the art screen and an old one and the old one isn’t as nice” the panel type has nothing to do with it.

Again your making no points on why you think OLED is better. Just you think it’s better….. I’m telling you why it isn’t.

It was the same Kuo dude that started those rumours and then turned back on them. 🤷🏻‍♂️ As far as I understand it, he gathers his info from his supply chain sources.
