Apple Watch was very slow to take off. The iPad before it wasn’t a boom in the launch.

Tim Cook’s ultimate legacy will be does he drive AAPL into the ground by failing to innovate anywhere except this product? [...]
You've forgotten about the AirPods which is probably one of Apple's most popular and recognisable lines. Not to mention Apple Silicon, the considerable updates to both the iPhone and iPad areas.

Just because Tim didn't introduce the product doesn't mean he's not responsible for their success in Apple. He's been CEO for 12 years, that's not a short period of time.

It’s so far neither a failure nor a success. It’s too early to come to any conclusions, and even 500k devices in the first year are still a relatively small number.
Early sales are positive though. Clearly it’s early, but soooo many people on MR want to say it'd bomb from day one. Those people can officially suck it on these numbers!

This whole thing is a process, selling this few units makes total sense to me. They are testing it with customers building up developer interest and resources, and also in essence beta testing with real world users.

The people who say Apple don't innovate anymore, then gripe when they attempt something like this don't realize they are speaking out of both sides of their face.

Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) has worn it on 4 separate occasions and reported on each one. He’s not mentioned motion sickness once to my knowledge.
Worth noting that motion sickness is highly subjective, some people are affected by it far worse than others.

I'm unfortunately in the camp of highly sensitive to it, I lasted less than five minutes with the PS VR headset. FPS doesn't bother me anywhere near as much as input latency.

I am very curious about the first reviews from real customers.

Me too. I’d like to watch or read them after a lengthy amount of time has passed with the device though. It’s so easy to get caught up in the initial hype and newness of a gadget that flaws or real life use cases can be overlooked. It’s best to have time with stuff.

Apple sells more than 500,000 iPhones on an average day. So 500,000 Vision Pro in the first year is a very small number. It is a lot for such an expensive device, but from a developer's perspective it may not yet be worth developing an app for such a small number of customers. Not only is the number of customers small, but the usage hours per customer are likely also much smaller compared to an iPhone. How many people will use it for more than an hour per day?
Apple sells millions and millions of Apple TVs, yet compared to the App Stores on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, there is comparatively very few apps beyond the streaming services. Technically there could be Google Maps or Instagram apps for Apple TV, but for whatever reason, those operations have deemed it not worth their time. And Instagram still doesn't have an iPad app I believe, so sales figures likely isn't their primary motivator.

Let's see how the Apple Vision Pro does in the wild over the next year or so, who knows, this could be one of the most important Apple products to ever be introduced. Come back in 10 years and see how your comment fairs.

Not sure im ready to waste my money on this gimic yet I wait for the reviews from those that bit the bullet 🤑

Now we know why Apple is in a rush to make them available in more countries in order to pump the sales data. This reminds me of the original Homepod. Still see no reason for this thing to exist. Tim should have focused all that r&d on AI.

Innovators and early adopters vs. late majority and laggards.
In this particular case I will be a laggard.

HomePod is a great product, I love mine and use them every day. Just because it doesn't interest you doesn't devalue it for anyone else.

With its specs I think that while some people will still suffer from it, VP will have a lower occurrence of motion sickness then the other less expensive, lower specced headsets.

Of note, check if you weren’t able to get an early preorder. Lots of cancellations from people who were planning to scalp. Lots of 512’s available for 2/2 pickup.

Apple’s playing a smart long game here. They’re having to redefine the HMD from a toy to a great home computer. When you think of the VP as a home device and imagine it as a compliment (not replacement) to the iPhone, it makes more sense. I know I’m guilty of staring at my little phone hours at a time at home (doing it now). VP for home, iPhone for away from home.

They don't.

It's very weird to think trillion dollar Apple get into any business to sell a few hundred thousand units.
They are in this platform for the long haul to which 100k units at launch is irrelevant.
It will be years before anybody can credibly call this a success or failure.
Of course it will be a couple of years before anyone can confidently say that a new platform with a new OS is a long-term success or failure. However...that hasn't stopped the cynics, you included, from considering its a failure before it even launched.
