Steve Jobs' nightmare has turned into reality: the salesmen have taken over the company. Rather than concern themselves with the best experience for their customers we hear stories about cost-savings by removing the charger from the box and now squeezing suppliers, all with a backdrop of ridiculously high-priced phones.

Tim Apple's greatest innovation thus far is the Apple credit card. Bravo!

A sales person’s nightmare is that sales people are in the company? Steve was a great sales person in the first place.

Cost saving attempts are typical in any product manufacturing process. Save where you can.

The immense success of Apple is of course Tim’s big achievement who ran the company for a decade under Steve, then for a decade alone.

Oh Man. So many Apple fanboys here.
Why would any one need 5G right now? Even in the big cities you still can use the LTE to watch a 4k 60fps (hehe) movies without any lags, bufforing etc.
So... whats the point? :)

The spec sheet lovers will protest if the latest network isn’t an option on a device people might keep for a few years.
I fail to see too many fanboys here in this discussion, not that it would matter.

As I said in the other threads and got roasted. If you really think Apple cant do a smaller notch or 120hz LTPO displays (that Samsung already has out in the consumer market) valued at $2 trillion, LOLOLOL

It's purely greed, $$$$. Too many costs with 5G to put it in because they have to protect their profit margins. Dont forget Apple doesnt ship the most devices as a company but has the far and away largest percent, 66%, of the mobile profits.

That tells the story when 1 company has 66% of the profits; and huge names in China like Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Huawei all have under 10% each (Samsung has about 15%) Yet they can all pump out sub $1000 devices with 5G

Very simple. Make 5G an add-on. If you want a 5G variant its $150 more, let people choose. Google is doing just that with the Pixel 4a (and likely 5 I would guess). Most wouldnt take it still. The $150 tax isnt worth it right now to most; maybe in 3-4 years yes.

Even if I didnt upgrade my phone yearly I wouldnt take it. I see no practical use case for it for myself, nor widespread coverage for years.

They should take a cut in their profit margin and stop screwing over customers with their pricing.

I assure you, if a customer feels screwed over, they won’t return. Very easy solution. We’ll see how this plays out.

I see no benefit in not having the latest tech for the latest networks. It increases capability if the tech is mature enough and this is a flagship device for Apple. If I happen to be in a suitable area, why not use the best network performance available. I travel (at least I used to) and so does the phone.

Numbers don’t lie.

Apple ‌iPhone 12‌ (5.4-inch) – A2471 – 2,227mAh
Apple ‌iPhone 12‌ Max (6.1-inch) – A2431 – 2,775mAh
Apple ‌iPhone 12‌ Pro (6.1-inch) – A2431 – 2,775mAh
Apple ‌iPhone 12‌ Pro Max (6.7-inch) – A2466 – 3,687mAh

You know the relationship between screen size and battery capacity, right?
What's your point of useless information here???

Too many fanboys though, look at the MBP sales, even after the butterfly keyboard situation. They literally value-engineered the hell out of that machine and it’s still selling well.

Apple has learned they can cut costs all they want, hurt the reliability and usefulness of their product, and still increase their numbers. That perspective is now coming to the iPhone.

That crap MBP did cost them a ton of sales I thought. So much that they went back to the old keyboard design. MBP are just pretty popular machines but I agree that stuff should never have left the lab.

I think this might be a cut corners year and it’s pretty much why I am not interested in being in the early adopter group for the iPhone 12.

Just like Intel, Microsoft and others stretching out the current design of their products and refining it over a period of time, the iPhone 12 like the iPhone 6 will be with us for a while. So, I’ll likely hop on around 2023 when 5G is more pervasive, cheaper, kinks have been worked out and hopefully not an added cost.

whatever efficiency 5nm brings, 5g battery draw is gonna rekt that battery life 😂

Man I wish Apple would come up with another iPhone with a huge battery life to accompany the rest of the products. Such as iPhone Power lol. Thicc phone with 4500mAh battery.

iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Plus, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, one more thing. iPhone 12 Power for active users. Like Samsung did with their galaxy active Series.

How about cutting the greedy profit margin Apple has?
Why would you get to decide the correct profit margin? Customers are the ones who decide what is too much.

Apple is selling 300-400 million devices per year. So it seems their customers understand the excellent value Apple products typically provide, and are willing to pay Apple’s asking price.

Hope this latest cost cutting exercise backfires and the phones explode like Samsung’s did. If only to read the response from fanbois.
You know, given how many apple fanbois we have, I have full confidence that even a similar explosive issue like Samsung galaxy S7 happens on Apple, Apple will still be fine either way. They are seemingly too big to fail right now.

For a company of the size like Apple, to reach a point where customers can even have any hope of influencing “how much is too much”, it‘d be millions of people stop buying iPhone. Just a mere thousand customers stop buying iPhone won’t affect the price whatsoever.
Disclaimer: all Numbers are for scale only.

Of course, if you can ship a turd in a box and people will buy it, why not keep shipping turds that you can sell at insane profit margins?

What possible reason to innovate would be there? ESPECIALLY when you are run by a bean counter like Cook rather than an inventor/science guy; there is a reason Apple doubled its market cap in mere months. Apple is already 66% of the industry profits, there isnt much higher to go when there are other major players in the market shipping more devices total.

They're too big to fail at this point with a cult following. It would take millions leaving to even make a dent.

Bingo, it would take millions to influence it and there are far far too many fanbois out there who will buy any box with a fruit logo on it (status symbol etc- whatever the reason)

The Pro Max is H 158 mm, W 77.8 mm, D 8.1 mm.
The S20+ is: H 161.9 mm, W 73.7 mm, D 7.8 mm.

And the 12 Pro Max will have a .2" bigger display, so I imagine a hint bigger body.

But its 4mm taller, 4mm narrower, and .3mm thinner, roughly the same volume as a 11 Pro Max, but Samsung can somehow magically get a 4500mah battery in there.

It's 10000000% possible. Unless we're willing to say Samsung simply "wants it more" or has better engineering. And this is coming from someone who has called them samEsung in the past for copying Apple. But they frankly are killing it lately with their phones packing tech in (and even tablets and watches get high praise). Yes the Note 20 Ultra is way too expensive (but in reality not really with 128gb storage its about the same as a $1250 256gb Pro Max since it has expandable storage), but the s20/+ is a good phone as is many of their midrangers for the price.

Cutting battery size this year by nearly 10% makes NO sense at all. Apple is obsessed with keeping the same runtime versus offering more. The 11 series was the first real jump in battery life and now seems to be going backward/stagnant again.

I have NEVER heard anyone with a modern iphone say man I wish this was thinner!! (rather the opposite and get rid of the camera bump)

And with 5G, no matter what % more efficient the A14 is, I cant see a capacity cut being the right move. Sometimes you cannot overcome a spec and the spec sheet wins out

Taking the level of support from Apple is so bad recently. Definitely I'm not willing to pay so much for their product.

This is new Apple where Apple wants to add features but also bring the cost down so it can pass to customers making affordable for more people and increase Service revenue. Last go around of Macbook is one example and back to school is another.
Once Apple silicon gets into MAC, it will be fun to see regular updates with better price/feature/performance improvement. MAC market will expand rapidly and it is good for everyone(Apple(employees, shareholders),App developers, customers).

Im sorry but 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

Apple is bringing down costs to make more 💲 💲 💲 💲 💲 for Apple. They didnt get to $2 trillion by lowering customer prices across the board, and iphone is their money maker.
