Apple needs to consider how to increase their market share in countries outside of the U.S. and price is definitely one of the main considerations.

As it seems like most U.S. buyers will pay the relatively small premium to get the Pro, what I think Apple should do is to drastically lower the iPhone 14 "non-pro" price. In other countries I've visited, no one wants an old out of date phone, they want the latest, but no one considers Apple because it's just too expensive. If this means that the non-pro has to come with cost cutting options, then they should do that.

A week before a new SE gets announced Kuo will say "The SE is back!"

This guy is a clown.
72.5% accuracy (top 10 of rumor/news leakers) is pretty good. Think you can do better?

Did you know 73% of all statistics are made up on the spot?

iPhone SE
iPhone 12
iPhone 13 mini
iPhone 13
iPhone 14
iPhone 14 Plus
iPhone 14 Pro
iPhone 14 Pro Max

8 different models at various overlapping price points. Not sure how you could consider that anything other than bloat.
In my opinion 12, 13 and 14 are too much similar to each other. Maybe a solution could be an even cheaper 12 and no SE at all.

I remember when the iPhone 12 came out and everyone here was saying "they didn't call it 11S because the changes were so many!" and yet they kept doing that ever since and the changes are negligible in a year by year basis.

Apple must be careful to not leave the mass market and to still target younger people with lower income. It must be more than just be a "parent's phone" or some fancy overpriced "mobile phone Leica". Take an old phone but keep something like the SE product line please.

Yea keep them or take them from Android. It's not only about getting a sale; it's stealing it from a competitor

Hip hip hooray 🛬

Apple needs to get rid of all the boring products like the SE. They drag-down Apple product events.
They need to simply all categories across the board. Too many options. Too many weird naming conventions that don't carry meaning. Too much inconsistency in naming conventions. It would seem weak sales of the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 14 Plus would indicate Apple has pushed the "an iPhone for every possible user" concept too far. Their offerings have never been more confusing. The fact they have a comparison chart on their website, to compare/contrast their own products, is kind of an indicator that they've overcomplicated their offerings. That wreaks of an operations mindset. And hey - that has done very well for Apple. 😜

I'm conviced they canned S because it was seen as just a little better

If one guy on YouTube can modify iPhone X without rearranging an "entire phone" you can bet Apple can do it.

Keep in mind every iPhone 8 and newer already has a USB-C controller onboard.
That's completely irrelevant. It's not how Apple goes about it.

They should just reduce the cost of the normal iPhones first before creating another SE
No, they really shouldn't. Older iPhones have less and less perceived value over time. iPhone SE is a "current" product. It is a mix of older components and brand new components. That makes it a stable product line that can be updated on a schedule.

An iPhone 11 that finally comes down to $429 is a much worse buy than an iPhone SE that gets the latest gen silicon and modems.

They've already added 5G to the SE and raised the price along with it.

If they've cancelled a 2024 refresh of the SE (which is still pretty far out), I bet this has something to do with the switch to USB-C. Apple is going to introduce the iPhone 15 line with USB-C next year, but they aren't going to run around and redesign all of their old iPhones that they still sell to include USB-C. That also rules out reusing an old product design for an updated SE (which they are so found of doing). By 2024, any SE would have to be an entire new design with USB-C...something Apple has proven unwillingly to do for a low cost iPhone. It may well be that the SE we have today will remain until a USB-C iPhone trickles down to the SE.

This makes a lot of sense.
Almost too much sense given the scary number of dopey responses in this thread.

It's not that simple with the phone. Aspects of SOC will be designed with USB-C in mind.

No?
A15 is already used in devices with USB-C, more specifically the iPad mini.
And if I’m not mistaken, Apple was literally using iPad mini parts to build iPhones during this year’s shortage.
So… no it does not require a redesign of the CPU, no idea what you’re ob about.
And again, the latest Apple remote. Absolutely identical to the previous Apple remote in every way… Except for the port. And it costs the same.
Absolutely no reason they can’t do that with an iPhone, literally their biggest and most profitable product.

Couldn't agree more. All current iPhones and iPads already have a USB-C controller. It's how fast charging is achieved through Lightning.

Zero changes to the SoC is required. @PauloSera has no idea what he's talking about.

The Mini was not discontinued, you can still buy a brand new 13 mini straight from Apple for the exact same price as it was on its launch day.
It never got lowered in price, it’s never been removed from any websites, you can still buy it.
And you’ll probably still be able to buy it, even after the 15 comes out.
And get this? It pretty much has identical specifications to the new 14 series.
And given that the new 14+ doesn’t seem to be doing so well, I wouldn’t be so sure that the mini design will never ever come back in any capacity.
The mini did just as poorly. For the exact same reason that the plus is doing poorly. Both were overpriced for what they offered. The plus is way too expensive for a non-Pro phone, and the mini was way too expensive for something that small.

Despite what people claim on the internet, no one anywhere is prioritizing size OVER price. They may have a size preference, but they aren't going to ignore the price or the value of the purchase. Both Min and Plus lack in value severely.
