Yo Tim Apple,

Are we truly vested in a Samsung-spearheaded, foldable-future?

Or are we all in on the AR/VR goggle-life?

if you truly commit to picking a lane, I will happily drive behind accordingly...

(No Titan/Apple Car pun intended)

I'm in 100%. Nothing says you're the top 2% like unfolding your 20" MacBook Pro at the airport while you wait to board. Of course I'm not the top 2%, but no one will know that except the guy that bought my car so I could finance the computer, and the loan officer that does my HELOC.

Foldable technology sucks and Samsung proves it.

1. Durability will be bad. Really bad.
2. The battery will be limited. You gotta put two separate batteries on both sides which will cause more weight and yet less performance.
3. Folding is not yet perfect and it makes a gap where OLED is being folded.

It sounds like a large iPad Pro with macOS. I have a bad feeling about this especially since a Touch Bar failed.
You obviously have not used Sammy’s latest iteration of foldables.

guys - i freaking called it. Look at my last comments on the macbook air.

I asked for folding.

They do listen to their customers.

Now drop the price apple.

This makes really sense, really great big workspace to work with and really compact to travel. you rarely fold your laptop unlike phones.

I don’t see the point, and I don’t see it happening. The folding part is just asking for trouble, and for size why not just use a VP with the Mac?

Because they don’t like making things that consumers want. If they made a phone or an iPad that folded, they would cannabalize other products that they sell.

The magic is gone.

Thanks I will
I think there is still hope but board need to make a switch after the innovative mess Cook has done.

I honestly don't understand why they think it's a good idea to look like an underpowered piece of garbage compared to the $500-700 table at Walmart. Like, 8GB to start was questionable in 2020. It's been 4 ****ing years. RAM isn't expensive, I honestly don't care if it's on the package.

Wait no I'm dumb, I know exactly why; 'cause people are buying it. If that stopped, maybe they'd figure out why.

Apple has never competed on specs, the base 8GB Macs fly and leave whatever the 16GB device you might compare them to in the dust.

I suspect most people complaining about this haven’t even tried a recent Mac, or simply don’t like the price points, you can buy a 128GB RAM Mac but it won’t cost the $500 the base config Mac Mini sells for.

8GB is a lot of RAM for general computing. It's crazy to think it's not enough. macOS still runs great with 4GB of RAM. People are just getting spoiled.
too bad thats ironic, probably most that complain about that are coming from people who not needs more RAM
In general i need and helps me more ram i have , better for maya projects but never complain about the base config as long as there is BTO

If Apple does this right, it could actually be the ultimate MacBook!

A 20” screen means we get 10” of useable screen in “laptop” mode. Let’s hope they let us fold it flat so we can use it as a 20” tablet for sketching. It would be even better if they let us connect a keyboard and mouse and use it as a 20” monitor for a “desktop mode”.

If they can get the touchscreen keyboard to work well, they might have a winner. Plus let us have an option with the “max” variant of the chip.

Folding MacBook means you are typing on a glass keyboard and have TouchBar-like controls on the bottom half of the screen. Doesn't sound like a good idea at all.
Not necessarily. A comparable product that isn’t actually a folding laptop would be the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i or the Asus ZenBook Duo 2024 version where there are two screens joined by a hinge with a detachable keyboard that would magnetically attach to the bottom screen, turning it into a standard laptop. Or you can keep it separate from the screens and have a double screen.

I have a feeling, that it wont really be foldable, but rather two screens and it can happen, that they remove the physical keyboard. Remember the Touch Bar?
