Eagerly waiting to see the first foldable from Apple. Expecting it to be priced very high. Very easily at least $3999

I honestly don't understand why they think it's a good idea to look like an underpowered piece of garbage compared to the $500-700 table at Walmart. Like, 8GB to start was questionable in 2020. It's been 4 ****ing years. RAM isn't expensive, I honestly don't care if it's on the package.

Wait no I'm dumb, I know exactly why; 'cause people are buying it. If that stopped, maybe they'd figure out why.
If you look at the Windows PC market, all the vendors sell 8GB laptops, so Apple is just one among the crowd. 16GB is for the higher end laptops. Why Apple is the only one getting slammed for 8GB, I don’t know, but you’re right that a ton of people buy 8GB versions and are quite happy with them. For most people 8GB is plenty. This forum just happens to be filled with almost exclusively power users for which 8GB isn’t sufficient. But for the average computer user, it’s just fine.

Apple should off at least 18 inch with a normal screen, because the thin bezels would mean that it would still fit into cabin bag. I was shocked when Apple no longer offered 17 inches. If you are used to 17 inches, going down o 15 inches feels like a big step back.

In all seriousness, Apple is collapsing before our very eyes. Cancelled car project, useless Apple Vision Pro, and this bs. What is happening?
Tim Cook is happening... Apple is in dire need of new leadership beyond a man who's only expertise is human cost and shareholder value.

I'm quite interested in the Lenovo 16" Fold Gen2. Can't wait to see what Apple does in this space.

this is where folding screens makes sense.

not stupid folding phones.
not sure about that - the problem with a laptop is the bad working position.
So to work stationary a separate screen with keyboard is way to go.

If you are on the go - yes a bigger screen would be nicer, but it might not make such a big
difference.
I went down from 16 to 14 inch and am quite happy, as I rarely use the laptop intensively
on the go.

The problem for me personally, is that I have an expensive piece of licensed software for Mac, and need a Mac to run it, obviously. I hate to say it, but boycotting Macs because the ram upgrades are expensive isn’t really an option.

Apple has long term, software invested users over a barrel.

Well, I am not Mac dependent, so it doesn't bother me much, whatever Apple does or doesn't.

However selling computers for 800+ U.S. Dollars or Euros in 2024 with 8 GB RAM and 256 SSD is sorry, but ridiculous and wailing at the same time.

You mean like, say, MacBook Pro?
Yes, the MBP of the M3 Pro/Max variety. As so many of you say, the 14” M3 MBP is not a high end laptop. It is for professionals who do not need very much power because they spend all of their time in apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SalesForce, etc. with maybe a light smattering of iMovie or Photoshop Elements.

The 14” M3 MBP is not for high end professionals like video editors, programmers, and so on, but is rather for professionals like secretaries, project managers, marketing and sales people, and corporate executives who really don’t need any power but do need the ports like the SD Card and HDMI. Keep in mind those type of people give presentations in conference rooms where you have the ubiquitous HDMI cable to the projector. For all of these professionals, 8GB is more than enough. Considering you can easily edit 4K videos in FCP on 8GB of RAM, as proven by many YouTubers, 16GB would be expensive overkill.

The problem with people on this and other tech forums is that they think there is only one kind of professional who spends all of their time buried in Final Cut Pro, Blender (most pros have no idea what this is), and Xcode. Those type of people make up the minority of professionals, which is why the 14” M3 MBP is perfect for mass purchases for corporations.
