so if the AVP gives you virtually unlimited screen size why would one want to add an awkward and fragile, space constrained physical display which is definitely more prone to problems than a projected one?

Somehow I just don't see this happening.

Macbooks have physical keyboards, so it's more likely going to be a 20" foldable iPad. And that's if Apple ever decide to release a not perfect screen folding mechanism. I haven't seen a folding screen yet that does not look rough on the fold, is completely flat when unfolded and that will live up to the high quality standards Apple sets.

It's just not going to happen until foldable screens are injected with nanobots that repair the fold.

physical keyboard still very doable (Lenovo Fold 16)

What a stupid idea. Laptops fold already. I like the proper keyboard to type on and I like the screen to look at above that. I really have no idea what this is for, assuming the rumour proves to be true. The only sense I can see in folding screens is so that things can fit in your pocket or a small bag.

I tend to not fully dismiss anything, but this seems far-fetched.

I LOVED my 17" MBP and would love an MBA with a screen that big, but a FOLDING 20"?!

Laptops already fold, so we're really talking about a 20" folding iPad with macOS on it instead?

I just don't get it...
Check out two Windows laptops, the Asus ZenBook Duo 2024 and the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i. Once you see how these laptops perform, you’ll understand why that 20” folding laptop might be rather exciting to people.

exactly. It fits in a bag half the size

Well I could understand if they said it was a foldable iPad I suppose, but I'm not getting the foldable laptop concept. Unless they are just going to call a large iPad that folds a laptop now?
Go read a Lenovo 16 Fold review if you want to get it, instead of just repeating over and over “I don’t get it.” There’s also the HP Spectre option but it’s absurdly Apple-esque in its overpricedness.

Well, thank you for your advice, not that I have repeated anything "over and over". Anyway, in common with most people who have commented on this article, I don't think I want to "get it" in either sense of the phrase. But I'm glad you like the concept. Each to his or her own!

So, we'll be getting a 10.2-inch device consisting of 3 layers (one keyboard & two screen) when folded?
Sounds like a good idea: Bigger screen in smaller form factor. That's smaller than my 11" iPad Pro!

But are 10" enough for a full size keyboard? 🤔

I thought we are all going to have a Mac strapped to our head in three years? seems redundant.

Did he also state we were getting no imacs last year and that we were still getting a bigger screen imac to replace the 27 inch. Still waiting on that lol.

I already have a folding MacBook Pro. I am using it in unfolded mode now. In a moment I will close Macrumors, fold up my computer, and go and read a book.

If Apple really is devoting serious resources to a product like this can't say it's very flattering to their leadership.

Yes please. I used to own a 16 inch Mac, then went to 13 inch M1, now back to 16 inch and it makes a big difference. Another four inches would presumably be even better.

Not necessarily. A comparable product that isn’t actually a folding laptop would be the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i or the Asus ZenBook Duo 2024 version where there are two screens joined by a hinge with a detachable keyboard that would magnetically attach to the bottom screen, turning it into a standard laptop. Or you can keep it separate from the screens and have a double screen.
And it‘s total crap. Instead of going thin and light you go thick and heavy and have to carry around more stuff. Total nonsense.
