Matrix, Jonny Nemonic and Minority Report for AR UI. Ditch the phone, tablet and tv, with AR goggles you can see through the UI. Looking forward to it. Apple Car, not sure as people lease or purchase cars every 3-5 years if not longer. What is this thing going to sell for $60K+.
We're probably going to need the phone for the foreseeable future for some local processing and to deliver that sweet, sweet 5G connection.

I believe Apple is working on a car only because the company’s MO is to develop the whole widget not just be a piece of tech in someone else’s product. The focus on software makes sense because if Apple doesn’t have that nailed there is no point in building a car.
It wouldn’t be just the software, it’d have to be an entire system that they sell to the car companies, or at least require the required parts and sensors of the desired quality before certifying the car to have the software. If they do release a car, it’s hard to imagine it being a product rather than a service first, but we’ll have to see what happens.

back in 1998, we humans made jokes if apple made a car, i would be 3x overpriced while microsoft cars would crash every trip. along with many, many cigar jokes!

So how exactly do you bring the Apple car to the Apple Store?
by using WINDOWS

Apple Car.
Wi-Fi Only
128 Mile Range $29,900
256 Mile Range $39,900
512 Mile Range $49,900

Cellular Models
128 Mile Range $31,200
256 Mile Range $41,200
512 Mile Range $51,200

Dongle to connect to Tesla Supercharger $3,900
You gotta double those prices at least. A $100K Tesla can’t go 500 miles on a single charge.

a car that self drives will not be something you own. it'll be a service.
self driving 2025?? the uber death pushed that back. any ways do you really want own a big fleet of cars?

Elon might start making phones and show Tim what a real ceo can do...

Oof.

So on a semi-related note, I sold all my TSLA shares today. Meanwhile, my AAPL is up over 400%. The thing is, the stock market is based on fear and emotion. Elon may be a genius, but his Tweet stream is every bit as scary and unhinged as Donald Trump's. I hope Tesla does well and I can someday buy a Model 3 without thinking the CEO is a Fruit Loop, but right or wrong, in the last week I lost faith in the investment potential of TSLA.

T. Cook gets a lot of grief for not "exciting" people, but I would say by and large, the shareholders (both institutional and individual) are cool with how things are going. You don't get to be a trillion-dollar market cap if everyone is butt-hurt about the Mac Pro or MBP keyboards...

it will be 100% enclosed. Steering wheel will be soldered into place. Turning will be Siri controlled. Windows will be glued in place with 2 sided tape and designed to go completely black from the inside if the engine gets to dusty. Any replacement parts will cost more than the actual car.

I can imagine what the dongle for the car will cost.....

With that said, it's interesting that Musk is planting the seed that Tesla could go private, which precludes shareholder scrutiny It's been noted that it takes a lot of money to enter the car market, which Apple certainly has, but once again, they need to partner with a formidable company to create/manufacture an Apple unit that would meet the Apple standard of tech (forget the Ive thin jokes). Apple has had great design and quality, but it appear lately there has been some issues. And yes, all car manufacturers are not perfect.

I am still concerned that with the Apple growth that there are still potential gaps between departments (hardware & software) that could bring together a cohesive unit without the glitches that have plagued some of their other hardware. Imagine a dashboard that could have keyboard (or other) design imperfections. I'm sure that somehow these units would be under deep scrutiny. There's a lot more parts than in a MacBook.

There will be those that if such a product comes to be, they will buy. I own a lot of Apple products and have been deep in the ecosystem for many years, but wouldn't dive into this one. IMHO, I don't think it will happen...

I keep trying Apple Maps from time to time and it's always a disaster, plenty of times a point of interest or name I type directs me to a remote location on Earth instead of showing me a location actually close to where I am. Last week I tried it for a new address of a family member and it couldn't find it, Google maps on the other hand found it fine.

That coupled with Siri's stagnation, it might be wise for Apple to prove they can do an outstanding job on Siri and Maps first before trying the autonomous driving BEAST.

I wondered why I am seeing Apple Stores being remolded with a lot of empty space and the genius bar being removed, and bigger opening doors. Got to make room for the cars to roll in for tech help. Also I can see it now at malls all across America with dedicated Apple Car lanes for appointments.

The Apple Car is supposed to launch at least 5 years from now? No no one know what's going to happen 5 years from now. His credibility was ruined several years ago when he said it was going to launch in 2020.

The whole "it will revolutionize auto industry the way the iPhone revolutionized mobile communication" rhetoric is ridiculous. Have you see a Tesla?

If that level of technology at that price did not revolutionize the industry then Apple -- a phone company this point -- will certainly not achieve the same. I get it. The hyperbole make it exciting but the big difference here is that Apple is not an automotive company. They are a tech company. I don't think we'll see the same "revolutionary" outcome here.

Back to the future 4

Marty! We got a problem!

Hey doc, what is it? It’s your future!

Let’s go!

Hey doc, don’t we need apple care?
Where we’re going....we don’t need apple care.

Apple car takes off...suddenly... car crashed due to glitch and needed ios update.

The Apple car run by Siri. No thanks. Can't wait for all the "you're driving it wrong" memes.

If the Apple car has a manual mode, it'll probably have only one pedal.
