Adult Diaper Fetish?

Apple Defense Force, ready to jump to Apple's defense- sometimes proactively- in any topic no matter what, at the slightest hint of anything negative... otherwise known as the "Apple is always right" crowd. Even something posted as a joke, followed by the ;) to even more strongly convey that it was a joke, can unleash their wrath.... comparable to a parent hearing anything that might be considered a slight toward their darling child, or a member of a flock hearing anything negative said about their God.

I think it was just 10 years ago when you went to the movies to watch SciFi titles about a future when humans were no longer free to live as humans, and had to do everything under a sort of electronic/robotic dictatorship. Unfortunately, those movies will stop being SciFi in about a decade, because you are either foolish or slave-minded if you think that you'll be able to drive a car (or even to own it) once assurance companies (and governments) make it practically impossible to drive on your own. And you are also foolish or slave-minded if you think that driving cars is the only freedom that you are going to lose.

But then, we have here plenty of droid-minded people who think that computers drive better than humans, love better than humans, cook better than humans, and do everything better than humans. The same droid-minded people who love it when their mobile phones tell them "you have a new memory", preferring iOS/Android/OtherMobiles over what their heart tells them... uncanny to say the least.

We can't even get firearms away from people who are proven to be dangerous. Why do you think the government would be capable of taking away everyone's car?

And yes, it is theoretically possible for a machine to perform better than a human in many tasks including driving. Humans are pretty bad at a lot of things, including recognizing how bad they are at tasks. Heck, we let machines drive airplanes for us. But that doesn't mean the machine isn't still a servant we control.

I wonder if Apple will eventually partner with an existing manufacturer on this. Can’t wait to see it debut at no less than $80K-$90K with its own special financing and lease options. Leasing would probably make the most sense, so you could turn around and get a new one in 3 years time. Yay for perpetual payments!

I just don't understand what the potential for AR is. I am not saying it's not there, just that I don't easily grasp it. I know Magic Leap is also coming out with something, there were the Google glasses, supposedly Chinese police have special glasses, etc. but I can't see it for myself.

In the future, would I walk around with special glasses on that pull up my calendar if needed or show names next to people I see through them?

Will I only put the glasses on to play a game?
Have you ever seen iron man? Heads up displays? Any sci-fi movies with holograms? Start with that. But applied to everyday life everywhere. It’ll change a lot

Or something like the iPhone upgrade program, a lease.

Yes that's possible, but I can't wait to see the lease rates on it. It won't be your standard $199-299 a month lease special down at your local Kia dealer. Probably closer to $800-1,000 a month. Considering a majority of Apple enthusiasts are fairly wealthy it would still do well at a $1,000 monthly lease.

Agreed. I just don't think it makes sense for Apple to try and start from scratch in regards to car manufacturing.
I kind of doubt they are going to ground up build on their own. I just don't think Tesla has anything they'd really want to leverage. They lose too much money and don't solve a problem.

If you tell me I can have a brand new BMW 3 or a Tesla Model 3, my choice is easy.

Yea I do also, kind of why I don't take a lot of stock in these rumors currently. Lots to work out. Absolutely, I'm taking the BMW.

This is what is so challenging for Tesla. It's not like "Tesla" is the slam dunk name in automotive. There are so many strong brands and amazing cars to choose from these days. BMW, Benz, Audi, Porsche, and even Lexus are all more desirable names than Tesla. Then you have your second tier names like Infinity, Acura, Cadillac, Lincoln, and Jaguar.

Not to mention Honda and Toyota are the names in reliability and even make pretty nice cars.

It seems Apple might do some kind of licensing of their technology or perhaps partner with an existing manufacturer to help design cars. I don't see the car being branded as "Apple." I could see a BMW with Apple trim, like the S line from Audi or something.

Manufacturing basically sucks. Low margin, capital intensive, and completely different than Apple's current game. Apple doesn't do low margin and high capital expenditure.

Because at the end it will always come our way more expensive. Try replacing your car with Lyft rides or Zipcar. It adds up. I’d rather own the car.
?

Lyft and Zipcar is expensive because you have to pay a human driver. Obviously that cost goes down with self driving.

It's shocking to realise how the same sentences you listened at Sci-Fi movies, with characters surrendering to electronic/robotic dictatorship are no longer fiction, but freely chosen by real people, in our real world, in this moment. It's obvious that we've doing something very wrong for a century.

Those Sci-Fi movies usually paint a grim future involving robotics and AI. In reality, it can be something great for the world.

You make really good points here and the more I look at it, I tend to agree. A partnership makes sense, take the tech part out of the hands of these car manufacturers (where most aren't all that great, but getting better) and hand it over to Apple. I think this rumor goes hand in hand with the Apple TV that never existed.

Precisely what I'm thinking. Apple can do exactly what they do for the iPhone. Design it, spec it out, and then have the experts (BMW, Benz, Lexus, etc) build the thing to their spec. Then Apple adds amazing software integration and you have the final product.

I think that is FAR more likely than Apple building factories, learning how do everything from scratch, and spending billions on capital expenditure. Just copy your iPhone, iPad, Mac, etc model and do it for cars.

I am sure Apple is thinking the same thing.

Please, PLEASE do not drive in my part of the world. Thanks.
Monday night I was sitting at the bar in a local restaurant, listening to the 3 guys sitting next to me talk about how one of them just got a Tesla Model 3 and realized how he could use Autopilot (he is an airline pilot) to avoid having the Police pull him over when he is coming home late at night and has been drinking......

Will it become useless after a year?
They will probably require a subscription for it and every year when you upgrade they will ship them off to third world countries to be torn down and "recycled".
