Considering the iPhone X form factor is about the same size as iPhone 8...

There's actually a pretty solid difference. I know it's not huge when you look at them side by side, but when holding them and using them you can definitely feel the difference.

IMO the only way this rumor makes sense is if they drop the 8, assuming every factor of this rumor is true.

If they can make an iPad mini, they can make a small iPhone as well.
Theyˋre even making a recently revised (2019) iPod touch - if the market that is satisfying isn’t small, what is?

macOS... ! Maybe Apple shouldn’t bother satisfying a niche market and just licence MS Windows for all future macs...;)

Despite me getting my iPhone 8 less than a year ago i'll likely go for this not interested in the newer features the iPhone 11 offer iPhone 8 does what i need it to do and if i can have the same form factor with better specs i'm sold

iPod Touch is a $199 gateway to the App Store for many children who grow up to buy iPhone. That market isn't small.

iPad mini has a productivity component to it and a number of commercial applications.

Apple can make a small iPhone, but they probably won't as the market is limited to those who simply prefer a small iPhone.

I think Kuo is living in some sort of personal fantasy land if he believes iPhone 6 ‘Plus’ users really want a 4.7” decide with a single lens camera....... let’s see what it comes with though, exciting news none the less.

Is this going to replace the iPhone 8 in stores and online? Will Apple stop selling the iPhone 8? If this SE2 has an A13 chip why would Apple keep selling an iPhone 8 which has an A11 chip?
Suspect this will be similar to what happened to the 5s when the SE was released in that the SE replaced the 5s at the entry level price. Similarly I suspect the 8 will be retired when this iPhone is released and it will be the new entry level. Basically it will be the 8 but with the newest chip (A13), more RAM and an upgraded camera (probably the same main camera from the 11 series, but with XR style portrait mode since it will be a single camera)... and probably deleting 3D Touch.

I would even buy an iPhone with the form factor of the iPhone 4 and the tech specs of an iPhone 7 or later and a display with 3,5 to 4 inch.

Considering they still sell the iPhone 8... not sure how this makes sense or how it would fit in the line up?

Maybe 8 stock is dwindling right now, and by March 2020 or so, they just drop the 8 and announce SE2?
Makes perfect sense - this will replace the 8 and can serve as the "cheapest" iPhone for ~2.5 years (this is exactly what was done with the SE which replaced the 5s in the lineup back in 2016).

And if the SE people wanted an iPhone 5s sized device (at the point in time when the SE was launched), they would have bought an iPhone 5s???

Yet those people bought the SE not a 5s (because the SE had an A9 and the 5s an A7). The same way people will buy an SE2 instead of an 8 because it will have an A13 instead of an A11.

5s and SE = Same size
SE and iPhone 8 (SE) = Not the same size

People want that 4" form factor of the iPhone 5 / 5s / SE or an all-screen SE like phone. Neither will happen, the market is so small, people are happy with larger 5" - 6" phones.

i just will never understand the "its too big" crowd...how is an iPhone 8 (not plus) too big? It's pretty small..besides an SE design is super outdated

Exactly my words. If you like the 4" iPhone, you can easily adopt to the 4.7" one. It's not that much larger, still very compact. The 4" iPhone 5 / 5s / SE design is outdated, i don't see it ever come back. Current iPhone 8 like design with wireless charging is your best bet.

Not a button ;):

“On earlier models, the button was truly a button: something that moved when you clicked it. On the iPhone 7 and then the 8 series, the Home button is actually a solid, 3D Touch-enabled panel. When you press it, nothing moves.“

still considered a button..

At this point, iPhone 6 and 6 Plus users have been offered multiple products: iPhone 7, 8, XR, 11. The iPhone 6 does not support iOS 13.

Chances are, if they haven't upgraded by now, they're probably price sensitive. For iPhone 6 Plus users, it may be a downgrade in display size, but a huge upgrade in performance and camera.

I think a lot of you people don't have kids.
Ok, here's how it goes. You send your teenage kids off to big school.
They finish at odd times and they have activities after school so they need to keep in touch, tell you when they are coming home and you need to check up on them, be able to contact them if needs be.
So they need a phone.
They have small hands and small pockets to put a phone in.
the SE is a perfect size for kids and for a lot of women. A bigger phone is just too big for their little hands and pockets.
If Apple don't have small phone then you can't buy them an Apple.
This is their first phone meaning if they don't start in the Apple universe, then they probably won't upgrade to an Apple later.
A few years back, kids either started with a hand-me-down probably a 5S, but we don't have small phones to hand down any more so without a small form factor, Apple are losing that vital toe in to the market.
And the clincher as far as I'm concerned is that nearly all the kids I know of the same age as mine, either have an SE or an Android phone.
That's what it's about, and the importance of the market is something Apple really don't seem to have got.

An iphone 12 pro with a 5.4 inch screen would be slightly smaller than an 8. Maybe a second hand one of those in 2021 ticks the boxes of small without being sh**. Ah well, nice try Apple.

IMHO, an 8-sized phone with the A13 would make for a nice SE2. I’m not betting on an SE form factor, headphone jack, or bezel-less display. This would be a good phone for comfortable pocket-carrying or for those of us who have kids who “love” breaking their phone. My daughter’s last SE lasted less than a flatus in the breeze 😄

I hope this is true. I love the real SE, it’s beautiful, but I am used to the 6s-8 style and this would be a good upgrade from my old 6s. I have absolutely no interest in multiple rear cameras and Face ID, so this would be good for me, if the price is right. Otherwise, I’ll wait a while and get a used one.

People completely miss the boat on what the SE was: a cheaper device, primarily marketed towards emerging markets like India and China (mostly India) while adding another price point for an entry level phone. It had nothing to do with size, only cutting costs to produce a cheaper product.
That was their intent, but it turned out differently. It's my first iphone, and if they don't make one with similar dimensions, it will be the last too.

The reason for the SE line is so that they don’t have to have the cheapest iPhone with a bigger screen. Happened in 2016 (6 would have been the cheapest iPhone), and Apple is preventing the same destiny for the XR in 2020.

It’s about cost savings by reusing components and charging a premium for larger screens.

It makes no sense to produce the New SE using an old design to begin with.
To me, the new SE should be a complete redesign with no bezels or nothing at all. I don’t want something in the middle. I want an iPhone Nano.

Pretty sure this will happen in the next few years. May not be this next version, but once big phones have run their course, which we’re one design away from, I could see Apple focus on a smaller form factor again as a premium device.
