I feel like comments miss what people, at least those I speak to, like about the SE...the fact that it’s small, not that it’s cheap! An SE based on an iPhone 8 is just a cheap big iPhone. If I wanted that I’d buy the iPhone 8 that’s already on the market.

If you look at the market, very few people want small phones. In both emerging and developed countries, big sells. Now that Apple has media streaming services, their lineup needs to be all big phones. To be honest 4.7” is still very small from a 2020 perspective.

It's astounding that:
  1. Apple still doesn't get why people loved SE.
  2. People here still don't get it as well.
Apple thinks that SE is a phone for those on the budget. A lot of people here probably agree.. What SE fans wanted was a SMALL, premium phone. iPhone 8 form factor is NOT small. That's why we complain. Just go to previous articles and try to find one SE fan saying: man, I wish they did SE in 8 form factor. Nobody EVER said that.

With the same old design 🤮

So you’re indicating this phone won’t sell because it’s the ‘same old design’, you mean like the ‘same old design’ where the majority of the iPhones on the market still incorporate the iPhone 6/7/8 chassis? I doubt consumers will share your viewpoint, it’s the _price and the size_ that will sell this phone.

All 5 people who keep spamming this place for the SE are now overjoyed and lived happily ever after.
You must be new. No one can ever be happy here.

But in all reality, I truly don’t understand how anyone would think that this would make the “iPhone SE” fans rejoice. This is not a true update to the SE line. What people loved about the SE were the size, the frame, the flush camera, etc.... This is literally none of that. It’s almost the exact same physical footprint as the iPhone X/XS/11 Pro. That being said I do think this will be a good thing to target both the budget friendly market and the resistant to change (Face ID) market. Wouldn’t be surprised to see this marketed as the “iPhone Classic”

It would be small if not for those bezels. As it is, it's a huge phone.

Isn't that too big to be considered an SE? Seems like they are just recycling leftover inventory.

It isn’t leftover inventory. Apple still makes 8s (and likely 7s) for other countries, for smaller phone carriers including prepaid, etc. Just because they aren’t being sold on apple.com doesn’t mean they aren’t still being made.

Man.... Apple is going to sell a boatload of these things. 2020 is going to be a great year for Apple. I mean, this year has been very good too.

Sooo many people want a smaller phone and a lot of people want to stick with Touch ID. And for a low price? Win win.

I can get behind this. I realize a lot of folks will be disappointed by size but for us it's a price point. $1000 phones don't do it for us (although the Xr refresh this year was a little easier to swallow)

Will be interesting to see what they do with the cameras. I'm guessing they'll stick with the 2-3 year old tech for cost cutting and further differentiating the line.

Apple gets it. They look at their global sales numbers.

Some people here don’t get it. They look at their own wants.

The SE was always intended for emerging markets. It was the #1 selling iPhone in India in the previous years. In the U.S., it was only popular in the pre-paid market. Today, emerging markets are dominated by Xiaomi 6.1” OLED products being sold for $200. Most people want big, not small.

the last iphone i used 5s.. which cripple after update ios 11. so if apple just sell iphone se 2 with 10 fusion most people wouldn't care.. Sell it 300 dollar ..Will sell like hot cakes.

If I wanted to carry an iPad, I would carry an iPad, or I would have upgraded my phone by now. The form factor of the SE is the largest form factor that I have had since I started carrying a phone 15 years ago, and even it is a bit large for my liking. I want something that I can put in my pocket alongside my wallet and it be fine. The iPhone 8 form factor is just too big.

A phone is a phone, something I use to call and text, and snap an occasional picture. I have an iPad, laptop, and desktop for when I want to do things that aren't 'phone things.'

I would gladly shell out for something with a 4.7"-5.2" edge to edge display form factor, because it would be comparable in size to the SE. Any larger, and I just have no interest. It's to the point where I may be willing to go back to a feature phone instead of a smartphone if I cannot find something suitable when my SE finally kicks the bucket.

This rumor makes no sense. Apple already continues to sell the 8 as the low priced phone. Maybe the SE will be more like the ipod touch size than an 8. Rounded edges but smaller SE screen and updated internals.

Similar design as iPhone 8? Nobody wants that! I think that most who want a smaller phone, want the bezel-less design in a phone that's the size of the SE. Hopefully, Kuo is wrong about this one.
That will require R&D cost to design something brand new. This option is just putting new hardware into an existing case.

Honestly the iPhone 8 is still a pretty tiny phone

Or they could just discontinue the 8 and replace it with the new SE

And still with an LCD display, same design shape as the iPhone 8 and thick bezels on the top and bottom! That’s not an upgrade, but downgrade
