I upgrade every year. Ordered the XS and expecting it on Friday. My daughter will get my X, and I will sell her 7+ (which was mine two years ago).

Been using this strategy for years.

I’ve also owned every watch. Daughter will get my Series 3, and her Series 2 goes to the good friend who bought my original Apple Watch. I’m going to keep the original. Doubt I would get much money on it, and I’ve always regretted not keeping my original iPhone. Or the iPhone 4... I loved that design!

Yeah stick to supply chain leaks Kuo. As an “analyst” he just makes it up, educated guesses sure but no inside knowledge. There’s no way he could possibly know actual demand, just like he didn’t know prices or names.
I would imagine between supply chain sources and shipment times provided by Apple, he could probably make an educated guess on demand.

Supply chain hasn’t been updated since Friday, those orders were placed months ago. If he’s guessing based on sellout, he’s two days late with that take.

It's not a bad phone. It's a good phone being sold at a bad price.
I disagree. The iPhone X was the start of a new super-premium iPhone tier. The iPhone X (and the iPhone XS that supersedes it) is a higher end device than previous Apple flagships. It costs more to make and is priced accordingly. It is not overpriced for what it offers.

Clearly, there is a strong market for a new super-premium iPhone tier. iPhone X sales have proven that.

The iPhone XR is the new mainstream Apple flagship. It is comparable in materials and build to iPhone 6, 6s, 7, and 8 series phones of years past.

Having a premium and a super-premium tier is good for everyone because sales of the super-premium phones help to subsidize the price of the more mainstream iPhone XR. It allows Apple to offer new bleeding edge tech in the mainstream device at a good price.

Yes, this leaves some customers with a little buyer’s envy, but that’s life.

I have to admit, I was a bit surprised when well into the day on Friday nearly every model of the Xs and Max were still available for launch day delivery, and no model was beyond the first week of October. I don't know if it means low pre-orders or just that Apple has a decent supply at launch for once.

I went to my carrier on Friday and tried to order an XS. They told me it was on backorder.

How can the 8+ have been yours 2 years ago when it has only been out a year?

...did you find it in a bar?

If I was buying a new phone I wouldn't even consider the Xs. The Xr is good enough and much less expensive. That said, my 6S is also good enough and I already own it and it has a jack for my headphones so I will just keep that instead. That said, I might consider upgrading my series 2 watch to a series 4 once I see the series 4 in real life. Not going to pre-order though. Really wish they would improve the watch face situation though, having the same face for years because the others can't hold enough complications is boring

326 PPI has not been premium for at least four years. At $749, I'd expect better.

You think it's ok to sell a $749 iPhone in 2018 with worse screen PPI and resolution then a $749 iPhone in 2014? If so, I definitely disagree.

If you take Apple at the word, per the keynote, Schiller said that the XR has the highest quality LCD screen of not only any iPhone but any smartphone ever. Resolution is important but there's more to screen quality than just resolution. We'll just have to wait and see until DisplayMate gets their hands on one to find out.

If I did not already have the X the Xr would have been the only one I considered. Let’s hope sales are lackluster! Make them go all out next year.
Would be hard to go back to XR now. Should just have XS cheaper and 128 SSD option. Would think it might be better to sell more units of one assembly line then two.

Never considered buying an Apple Watch before but will be placing an order next week after I get some hands on time at my local Apple store to see which size and and band I want. I suspect I'm not alone.

I think XR will outsell the XS/XS Max combined 2:1, with XS Max outselling the XS. I mean if you’re already spending $1,000-1,350 why not spend the extra $100 for the bigger phone? 8 Plus outsold the 8.
I agree and that’s as it should be. The iPhone XR is the new mainstream flagship. The XS and XS Max the new super-premium tier. They exist to satisfy wealthy customers who want a luxury phone. They also help subsidize the bleeding edge tech in the mainstream phone and help to boost ASPs.

I’m definitely getting an iPhone XS Max, but I probably qualify as a wealthy customer.

As a shareholder, I’m happy if the Xs Max is more popular than the Xs. That said, I’m also not surprised. Faster Face ID and a somewhat better camera won’t be enough for most people. But the Max is popular with owners of older Plus models and Series 4 seems to be encouraging upgrades.

I think the XS orders would be even less if the XR was available at the same time. I’m sure some people are ordering just because they don’t want to wait another month. I’m still going to hang on to my 7+ for at least another year. If the XR was 1080 as opposed to 720 I most likely would have got it. I’m sure as far as just looking at it, it will be similar to my 7+ but I didn’t feel the need to upgrade with the 720.

Here's a clincher for you - your eyes can't see the difference.

8+ is only 1 year old. Do you mean 7+?

About the only thing I’m considering from Apple this year is a series 4 Watch.

If Apple drops the price on the 2018 XS max I’ll consider that next year. If the discontinue it, I’ll probably be skipping the iPhone for another year and stay with my 8+.
