Apple has such a diverse user base, as I care less about design and more about what it can do. I don't see it as a watch to tell time...or a fashion accessory. Before the AW I had not worn a watch in decades.
Agreed. I am actually a tad chronophobic, but mostly I find timepieces stressful. This means I prefer the fewest clocks in the house. I can’t get rid of all of them, for example the oven can’t be disabled. But I can keep them out of the bedroom.

I prefer to track time with event alerts and a general awareness.

They do this every year. Just before product lanuches they tell you how great the next year's stuff will be. Seems like the stuff you really want is never really available.

Getting your temp is the least useful measure to add to a device. Who needs regular temperature measures? The pandemic will be over a soon as natural immunity and vaccine immunity wipe it out then what use will it be to be able to measure temperature anytime.
Given that thyroid hormone is intimately linked to metabolic processes, anyone with a thyroid issue might well be interested.

Although there are blood tests, they are quite costly (at least if done frequently), and just give you a snapshot of the moment. (Many other issues as well, but keeping it short.)

Having a device which keeps temperature measured and reported frequently might very well work well as a kick to think about whether you are under- or over-dosed. If well implemented, it could be far better than the wake-up and stuff a thermometer in your mouth approach many now use. There are other reasons for temperature to vary, so this alone would not be sufficient - but might be a good starting point.

It might be of particular use in identifying need for adjustment when the weather changes - many feel the need to do so between winter and summer.

Estimates vary, but it is sometimes suggested that about 5 to 10% of adult USA residents have hypothyroidism. Which is a large number of people.

(This is in addition to the many women who wish to monitor their cycles.)

I'm disappointed that the 7 apparently won't have any new health features but I'm still going to get it because I don't want to wait another year to get my first Apple Watch. In my case any Apple Watch is an improvement over not having one 🤣
Exactly where I am - though quite sure my mind will change many times (whether to wait till next year, which colour, etc.) before I click on a buy button.

Be interesting if they decide that an existing (or new) modeul will be available at a lower price. That could persuade me to get one this year and consider upgrading next year, or the one after. But would have to be a good reduction...

Will it turn you in for covid to the authorities? sorry could not resist. It seems like a useful sensor to add to the suite for medical management. Glad rumors come out ahead of a launch it's actually nice to be able to take it into account and make a decision. I much prefer to find out what I'm might be missing and be okay with it before purchase rather than afterwards

You hit a genuine problem with your suggestion. :)

People who are actually hypothyroid (not diagnosed, not being treated, or inadequately treated) could very well be missed by the typical infrared scanner thermometers despite being infected with Covid. Something like, drop a degree for hypothyroidism, add a degree or two for Covid, and they could well still be under the limit. Obviously, as they get worse, their temperature is likely eventually to rise sufficiently to trigger a detection but, at the beginning, it is a possibility.

Half of me doesn't want to know about next year (and anyway, am sceptical about the details), but I end up agreeing. Better to know than have to buy totally blind.

Last year, I got the 12 Pro phone and now we are close to the 13, I think I did right. If there is the vestige of accuracy in the leaks for the 14, that might be cause to upgrade - or decide to keep the 12 for years.

If taking temperature is not that important or accurate, why even add it.

Truth is unless it’s medical grade then all you are seeing is a trend, which can be useful. For a device that is heavily linked to fitness and exercise then knowing you’re running a little higher temperature that day could be helpful for explaining why you had a less productive work out. Essential no, important to you, maybe not. But to me, I’d like it and I’d have liked it sooner.

Compared to blood sugar it should be very easy, hence I’m surprised they haven’t already added it.

I have to say that I am not in any way looking forward to a device completely managed by Apple to take my temperature or any of the other health sensors or data they are working on.

Apple would have to convince me that I can turn them off at any time and that they cannot be turned back on by anyone including remotely. I am not going to help produce the future SkyNet.

Apple has proven with the photo monitoring debacle that they will not respect my privacy, autonomy, or freedoms.

Imaging the government deciding to force Apple to monitor Apple watches to detect COVID 24, variant Zulu. With forced quarantine or arrest, like in Australia. Nope, it's time to stop this mess now, before it gets out of control here in the US.

Cook originally suggested a rectal thermometer that would pair to the Apple Watch 8 via Bluetooth 5.2 but the Design Team talked him out of it for fear of the accessory line that might follow.

Looks like  Watch 7 is more about a hardware design change than additional sensors and features
If you have a 5 or 6 waiting for the 8 might be a good idea

Still waiting to buy my very first Apple Watch. 7 might be the one. Or wait another year for 8.

Some garmin devices already has a temperature sensor. I think Apple put its sport watch updates too much slowly…

What’s cold? Your hands? Wear it on your wrist and you’ll be fine.
Its not exactly a hard and fast cut off. I mean there is a reason you never see a doctor take your temperature from your wrist instead of your core.

I assume the watch will maybe be more of a relative temperature, basically it will learn your normal resting temperature and alert you if it changes from normal while resting.

I heard the AW 9 would have sat phone capabilities. Native!
I heard it would track how long you brush your teeth.
I heard it would have a geiger counter, because who knows.
I heard the new color was going to be 'pumpkin spice'...

This weird need to pre-guess what the next next Apple device features is getting kind of old already...

See, and I question the whole need, or purpose of a wrist mounted temperature probe. It's measuring an extremity. It's not going to be very accurate. I can think of a lot of things that would skew the readings. Meh... It's like a 'barometric altimeter'. It measures atmospheric pressure and tries to deduce your altitude from that. It's not a 1:1 direct fit. It's an 'educated guess', and can be wildly off, but then GPS altitude can be wildly off as well.

*shrug*

Call me a skeptic...

It sounds like the chip they use has that capability, and someone said 'Why not?'

The temperature addition is long overdue, I think that something that is hugely beneficial and is just another great tool to add to the watch. I do question how accurate it will really be, being temperature checks in some respects, need to be completely accurate.
