Yet another Apple accessory to make you look like a douchebag:

I'm not sure you understand how glass works.

It's going to be a huge ask to get the general public to wear anything even vaguely resembling the mock up. Cameras on glasses like this is just going to make people behave really weirdly (understandably) around people wearing them.

I seem to remember Google went down this path a few years back -- creating the word "Glassholes". Weren't there a few beatings that came out of it, too?

Just what everyone wants, a camera staring them in the face while interacting with another.

We're in a very creepy place these days...

I find it sad Apple offers one watch option. You see it so often, it's like some forced tech in a sci fi movie the people must wear.

Eh? There's 5 different generations of AW that come in 3 different colours, 2 different sizes and with hundreds of strap options.

Maybe it'll just be a HUD for basic messaging. Running stats, driving directions, incoming calls, etc. Perfectly overlaid in your AR environment. FaceTime could be like starwars =O

I don't think I'd drop cash to have alerts in my face though...

That's assuming they are something that even looks good in the first place.

It will be interesting to see what Apple does with this really really hard design challenge.
If it’s anyone who can pull it off, it’s a company like Apple who gets both tech and design. Plus, Apple is a trusted brand and should have an easier time convincing people to not only be willing to try a product like the AR glasses, but also actually want to be seen wearing them.

Just look at how Airpods have gone viral.

Let's just say that Microsoft did not design the HoloLense to "impress" you, a consumer. It was made for industrial/professional use cases and was not meant to be gadget to display animated poop emojis in a Starbucks Café, which is most likely what Apple will show off.

Actually Apple is probably is aimed at much of the same space Hololens is going for. Lots of industrial/professional companies (directly/indirectly) buy lots of iPhones give them to the employees more so as tools than toys. They are suppose to use the phone that the company pays for to mostly get work done. ( with toy aspect on the side. )

It probably will not be Hololens prices but it wouldn't be surprising if this end up being higher priced than the Apple Watch. I doubt these will be priced so that the bulk of the iPhone users can buy them. ( It also probably won't work with most relatively older iPhones either.... probably will need to buy relatively newer, more expensive iPhone if completely wireless and needs 'bleeding edge' direct WiFi connection. If used for substnative amounts of time probably will need battery pack for iPhone too if want it to last "all day". ).

However, it probably will be in the price range for those who want to have something that is more expensive than most folks can pay will buy ( "look at me, I have 'hot' tech" ). Apple won't turn away that money and there will be apps that cater to that.

The bend mix really depends upon how many developers turn up with Apps in each of those market splits. If 100 development teams leave WWDC 2019 and gold rush for next Pokemon AR pay day.. then it will be a less series mix. If 100 corporate focused app developers leave WWDC 2019 with idea can get a "hand free" ARKit uses out of putting an helpful AR app on the companies iPhones/iPads then Apple could easily get more of a even mix out of it.

Starbucks, emoji...wow you sure do check quite a few of boxes on the list what typical Apple hater has to say.
Just because you criticize Apple, doesn't mean you are a "hater". It means that we remember when Apple used to be a leader in the tech field, not follower. When it used to innovate and not follow what others have already done. Making a buck seems to be the thing for Apple right now, instead of being an innovator. Devices/OS's are not as polished when Steve was in charge. We want Apple to lead and not follow.

Apple has been working on these for quite some time. They will allow the user to see their iPhone activity. The projected images show in the glasses to prevent texting-related distractions. No doubt they will be available in a prescription format; styles, etc. Sure, the initial release may look like safety glasses, but I believe 'safety' is the intent, followed by convenience. In the not so distant future, devices such as this will become common. I have thought for years that any phone devices we carry, are obsolete.

As for wearables looking silly; I'm disabled, so I got over the Airpods a long time ago. I'm confident as time passes, the design will change to look smaller and less obtrusive.

AR and VR are 2 very underwhelming technogies that feel like gimmick.
Maybe AR might have some future in some spcific areas but wearing glasses is pretty much for entertainment and I could see it being paired with an Apple Watch to act as a remote for things.

I am sure Apple will find some things to make cool but still a gimmick to me at this point.

Anyway, Holograms will be the future if that will ever be possible... :)

i see this at least in the beginning more a niche product for special applications. Medical, special repair jobs, education, museums, exhibitions, research, traffic and such. There it doesn't matter how douchebag like it looks as you're not walking into a restaurant with this.
For purely private everyday use (with the exemption of gaming and aehm..adult recreation) I don't see this happening in the next 15 years or whenever this is integrated/hidden in normal glasses.

I have tried the AR games and apps. I just don't see it as useful, or fun (ok, maybe for 30 seconds). But after I have impressed my Boomber parents there is not much else to it. It's the information you want, but now its jittering around on an animated back ground burning through your battery.
Measurements are not very accurate. I mean, if you are wondering if that 70" TV will fit into your TV cabinet, are you going to rely on the AR measurement app for that final half centimetre? No? Then why do you think the touted medical professionals – often used to justify AR tech – will trust it to display important medical data? Sorry, but no.
Besides, you need a whole room or table to use AR on the phone, thats not exactly good for the daily commute, bedtime browsing, or on the loo. Like 90% of peoples time with a phone. Cant really use it on a plane can you? You know what can use on a plane, VR.

VR, Wow! Thats where it's at, especially for games. That actually puts you into the world. Where as AR you are holding your tiny screen, walking around an invisible dinosaur squinting at your tiny 2D screen, is not very helpful.

I freely admit Apple is the best implemtation of it I have seen. But at the end of the day AR is a gimmick struggling to be a solution.

Who is Apple supposed to be following these days?

Until someone can make a system that actually looks like real glasses and not some crazy "costume" accessory, I'm out. And even then VR/AR does nothing for me anyway, just nothing exciting about Nintendo 64 polygons flying on the screen telling me where to go.

One quick way that AR glasses would be popular: driving directions. You put the glasses on and virtual directions and points of interest can appear naturally as you drive based on the options that you choose. You would see them in your normal field of vision and they could appear as if they existed within the standard environment.

That would be nice, but it could also obstruct or cause more accidents possibly in busier metropolitan areas

People would fill their bodies with fruit logo radiation / battery devices any day :apple:
