Third iteration if it is $2000 including all taxes etc…I might be interested. Certainly NOT at $2500 or more, certainly NOT the first iteration. Meanwhile, let me try Fold 8 or Fold 9. I am foreseeing lots of silicon realignments and modem experience etc…by then. Until then my iPhone 15 Pro Max shall serve me.

Despite some of the issues with the way iOS is going, I still love the platform, especially on the iPhone. I'd be so tempted to buy this, but on the other hand, this is going to be a prime example of the benefits in skipping gen 1 to buy gen 2.

Apple haven't made something like this before. I want a good million+ people using it and providing in the field feedback to make revision 2 better. My wallet will thank me.

And tbh, the AI stuff adds no value. It's a solution looking for a problem. ChatGPT is great to bounce ideas off / do limited initial research. But Apple Intelligence is currently just another thing I need to switch off.

I'm glad my early adopter days are over. I learned that lesson a long time ago. Might be a 4th or 5th gen purchase, maybe...

It will also be positioned as a "true AI-driven phone," with the larger screens allowing for a better multi-tasking AI experience.
AI doesn't increase demand for multitasking, if anything it should reduce it since it's supposed to do things for you. Improved multitasking may be beneficial, and improved AI performance may be beneficial, but to link the two like this and suggest it's a selling point of the phone is just marketing nonsense..

Anyone else far more interested in a Razr style hamburger fold phone, as it were? Small phone with a large screen...
I wanted to buy a razr but I didn’t like that it has a razr outside screen. I don’t want this, I want a razr like before, with maybe a little tiny screen when closed or no screen, but a big screen when you open it. What I want is to not consfsly look at my phone and end this addiction, also to have peace of mind when I have it on my pocket knowing that the screen is not to get damaged

Tim just wants to financially punish us iPhone mini lovers that keep pestering him about a small phone

The ability to read pdfs without carrying an ipad. Small font, full of formulas and figures pdfs, like scientific journals. That one ability converts my phone from a device that's good to pass time to a device that I can do work with. That means 30-90 minutes a day converted from doomscrolling on public transport "free time" to work time, and the same amount of work time converted to actual free time.
I get that but have you tried ? Does it work ?

I can't wait for it to release so that everyone who wants one can complain about the price. I'm sure it will be nice though.
Don't forget:
"What's the point?"
"Who will buy this?"
"It has a camera sensor 1/16" smaller than the iPhone 18. What a joke."
"It has a processor with a binned GPU. Nobody will buy this."
"Why doesn't it have Stage Manager?!"

Etc

You will see, it will flop. Samsung is luring Apple into a trap. Most Apple users do not need this trash. And price is not the only issue, the utility of the device is.

iPhone was always a small pocketable device to stay connected and take photos. Imagine taking this folding Nintendo 3ds something out of the pocket for a call or while walking somewhere, or even to take a photo?

Samsung must have inflated their sales figures to make it seem those are selling well. Yet I haven’t seen lots of these “books” in a wild, people still use regular phones
The problem is that iPhone is now far from small. Given the outer screen, it sounds like for a task like taking photos one need not unfold the phone.

Hey! Look at me!
2.5k and now I have Image Playground in one screen and Genmoji in the other....

This is the new catching-up Apple.
Catching up with AI, with foldables...just 5 years later

I'm guessing touch ID is more practical than FaceID. As it has an external screen and an internal screen, you'd need 2 sets of FaceID sensors to make it work. With TouchID, you can still have a single sensor on the side which works whether the device is open or closed.

Face ID is an absolute must nowadays. It works instantly without even having to think about unlocking the phone. I wouldn’t even consider getting a phone without Face ID anymore.

I don’t understand how some people prefer Touch ID. It doesn’t work with gloves on (for example, if you just want to glance at notifications and unlock the screen for that), and if your fingertips are dirty or damaged, it causes issues. Touch ID always requires an extra step to use.

This wont be priced at $2K for sure, but priced slightly higher than other competing foldable phones from Samsung, Google etc so around 1.7-1.8K.
