I was hoping for a flip-style device that could replace the 13 mini. But book-style means that when it's folded it most likely will be just as large as other current Apple offerings. And at that price point (into Mac Studio territory), I couldn't justify it. I guess I'll have to wait until an Apple Watch becomes more independent of the iPhone. Then I'd have a small communication device and use my iPad for games, email and the like.

Either it’s $1,999, or it’s DOA. Aside from influencers and posers, there’s no way anyone would buy it when they could get an iPhone and an iPad Mini for the same price or less.

If it goes beyond $3K, it’ll just sit there collecting dust on Apple Store shelves—just like the Vision Pro.
This phone would absolutely be more appealing and obsolete the need for an iPad mini for most of the target audience.

As an everyday user of a Pixel 9 Fold and frequent Galaxy fold user, going back to my personal iPhone 16 Pro Max is extremely archaic and primitive.

For prosumers and productive on-the-go users of phones, a similar product by Apple is extremely long overdue.

This product is absolutely not for incumbent budget Apple users.

The Vision Pro, iPhone Pro, Pro Display XDR, Mac Studio, Mac Pro and this rumored product isn’t either.

Like the Vision Pro, it’s thinly veiled entitlement to think Apple needs to enter a new device category or segment catering to budget users or most with the price and features.

Apple offers products for a wide variety of computer users with convenient amount of store to go to for in-person support and a great ecosystem.

The ecosystem is most beneficial for prosumers who can comfortably afford, justify, and meaningfully leverage that ecosystem to the fullest that necessitates buying hardware above average in costs with the normalization of various tech they leverage to work with each other so well.

A $2000 folding phone makes me think that Jonny Ive has snuck back in through the back door.
Have you searched and researched the prices of what flagship foldable phones cost before you posted this?

$2000 for the flagship, non-budget Android phones exist today.

I actually have one (Pixel 9 Fold) in addition to my iPhone 16 Pro Max for my profession

Apple seriously needs to implement No Returns unless defective for this foldable. That will limit the amount of low rate “influencers” buying it, reviewing it and then returning it.
It’s not Apple concerns to police how people use their device within a return window.

It’s potentially great publicity more than anything expected by early adopters.

Lol $2000 base model with no Face ID? No thanks. Let’s not pretend the screen won’t have shortcomings either to make it foldable.

Honestly i think it will sell pretty bad at 2k. 1499 starting price seems more in line with pushing the new tech to people. I think they know how bad the headset they made is selling with its price and wont make another bad decision on pricing for something new.
Android foldable flagships typically start at $1500 with ideal configs at $2000. Apple’s rumored pricing is merely on par with such offerings.

The Vision Pro is a prosumer headset yet to be rivaled in its position similar to the role of the Pro Display XDR, and what prosumer hardware like Nvidia’s x90 GPUs benefit from

The Vision Pro success metric isn’t mainstream sales which is a made up and arbitrary one by those insecure of its existence as a headset not for most people and/or too expensive for their liking.

When someone creates a prosumer headset that’s better in functionality and price (hint: Not compromise image quality or omit HDR to play mobile-class spatial games), then serious conversations can be made about its price being bad.

Hopefully it doesn’t age well like fine wine like the Pro Display XDR and gets serious competition with spatial computing headsets that aims to be better in every way at a cheaper price.

Build quality can perhaps be a clever means of reducing the price of the Vision Pro while outputting better specs by competitors, but it’s looking unlikely for most in this market of doing so soon.

Why not just add cellular to a MacBook?
Both can perhaps happen; a foldable is a very distinct on-the-go device from a laptop

Owning one alongside my M4 Max Macbook, M4 iPad, and Vision Pro, there are absolutely distinct and hella convenient reasons to use one over such devices on the go.

It’s a huge downgrade to use my iPhone 16 Pro Max in comparison; I absolutely cannot wait for an Apple foldable.

Apple's first foldable iPhone should arrive around the end of 2026 or early 2027 with a book-style design and a premium price tag of over $2,000, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In a report today, Kuo outlines his expectations for the device, noting that it will have an approximately 7.8-inch "crease-free" inner display and a 5.5-inch outer display, matching a rumor from last month.

Kuo says that the foldable iPhone will measure between 9 and 9.5 mm when folded, and around 4.5 to 4.8 mm when unfolded. It will feature a titanium alloy casing with a hinge made of stainless steel and titanium alloy, and it will have a dual-lens rear camera with a front-facing camera for both folded and unfolded states.

Notably, Kuo says that the phone will forgo Face ID authentication, instead using a Touch ID side button as a means to save precious internal space. It will also be positioned as a "true AI-driven phone," with the larger screens allowing for a better multi-tasking AI experience.

With premium pricing above $2,000 and perhaps even above $2,500, Kuo believes the foldable iPhone will tap into Apple's loyal fanbase, some of whom will view it as a "must-have device" if its quality meets expectations.

Kuo says Apple is aiming to finalize the specs of its first foldable iPhone during the second quarter of this year and officially kick off the project in the third quarter. Mass production is reportedly planned for the fourth quarter of 2026, so we could perhaps see a launch late next year or in early 2027. A second-generation model is said to be in the pipeline for a year later.

In my country this will cost nearly the price of a car

Face ID is an absolute must nowadays. It works instantly without even having to think about unlocking the phone. I wouldn’t even consider getting a phone without Face ID anymore.

I don’t understand how some people prefer Touch ID. It doesn’t work with gloves on (for example, if you just want to glance at notifications and unlock the screen for that), and if your fingertips are dirty or damaged, it causes issues. Touch ID always requires an extra step to use.

The gloves argument I hear a lot but who are really wearing gloves these days? Aside from people who live in - degrees most of the year

Face ID while I like it’s a pain when using on a desk. Goes against the point to check something quick if I have to keep picking it up

$2000 is certainly expensive, and way more than what I would pay. But I still want it to come. First, it will get cheaper over time. Second, since many companies copy Apple, it will open the floodgate for this type of devices.

AI doesn't increase demand for multitasking, if anything it should reduce it since it's supposed to do things for you. Improved multitasking may be beneficial, and improved AI performance may be beneficial, but to link the two like this and suggest it's a selling point of the phone is just marketing nonsense..
To be Fair, it’s completely unlikely that Quo has any idea about the marketing of this phone, let alone Apple, who are still months away from finalizing anything about it.
Same goes with the software.

5.5”? Excuse me? That makes no sense to me. That is way too small. The iPhone Mini was 5.4”. I’m hoping he is dead wrong on that front.

No Face ID doesn’t sound right either.

Why is it too small? It’s this way so the aspect ratio is like an iPad mini full screen

No Face ID is clearly a space reason

Open the display and it’s 7.8 so i don’t see the issue

The only justification for that price is if it runs a MacOS-level browser equivalent at 4k+ on an external monitor. This dummy-downed iPad crippled software on an external monitor is trash. I assume the foldable will run a hybrid iOS iPadOS operating system.

What do you mean? I went to a samsung store and tried fold 6, especially the pdf part. But haven't bought one because it's android and my 13 mini is still new by my standards.
What I mean is … Have you tried one on the long run to see if this is a productivity product once open and all the rest once closed … unfortunately I didn’t like the experience myself with a Microsoft surface foldable phone and a Samsung too … let’s see if Apple has a better solution …

Not all products are for all people.
I'm sure it will be snapped up by a fraction of the public, but I will not be one of them. At that price I would be content to stay with my 2nd Gen SE. Even the new 16e is too pricey for me.

Man, I’d be tempted to purchase it at 2K, but above that and it’s a tough sell to me.

I’d be more curious how it feels and if it feels as premium as the price (or cheap like other foldable phones can be after many uses and touches), so would more than likely wait this out until I could hold it on my own hands at a local Apple Store before purchasing.
Over 1k & I’d sit that train journey out!

Did they not learn with the Apple Vision Pro that people are bit done with paying stupid prices for little benefit?

This isn’t like Vision Pro

This solves the iPhone and iPad issue being a 2 in 1 device. Paying 1800 to 2k is done by millions already. Apple releasing a new iPhone product it will sell like crazy.
