Kuo: Cook Should Personally Address Siri Apple Intelligence Failure

Did anyone actually buy any of these devices specifically for Apple Intelligence though? Normies don’t care, they just needed a new iPhone. The people who are bought in to AI hype are just using the app or website for their favorite chatbot. The people who don’t want AI are either hanging on to their older devices or turning it off on a new device. Where are these people who are legitimately upset? This all seems way overblown.
Absolutely. This whole story is overblown. Too many amateur AI enthusiasts who think, though it doesn’t do anything of significance, that Apple did something wrong. They are playing it smart. Not falling for the smoke and mirrors. This whole story cracks me up.

Isn’t this “outrage” over the top? How many people bought a device that has Apple Intelligence specifically for those delayed Siri features? This isn’t antennaegate, where that issue actually affected the basic use of the product.

If ever there should be an apology, it’s about how Apple hasn’t focused on its software for a very long time, other than making features nobody cares about, just to wave the shiny new thing with a new OS release

The “outrage” is over the top. But the issue is serious.

It kind of doesn’t matter why a person bought the iPhone 16. People are human and therefore as devious, deceptive, and greedy as corporate executives. They will lie about their motives for buying the phone and the impact AI had on their decision just to get ahead a few bucks while posing as morally superior. Don’t let the poseurs off the hook. Human nature doesn’t change just because the person isn’t mega rich; the only thing that changes is the price of their integrity.

Can't take credit for the quip.. saw it somewhere else.. but the issue will be addressed at World Wide Damage Control in June.

Don't see the logic in calling more attention to it. The masses hardly know what it is anyways. Hooking siri to chatgpt was the most appeal. It'll probably be ios20 before we see any chatbot like version of Siri or whatever apple calls it then. But then again, Apple didn't promote that. What they did promote was some kind of lame vague notion that siri will know whats on your phone and could be slightly more helpful. So what.

The AI debacle strikes me as being trivial, when we went from OS 9.4 to X, an OS that was completely unusable for several years, Leopard being the first really usable version, no one apologised, why now ?
Mac OS X was very slow and missing features (a DVD player app comes to mind) at the start but it never fell short of its advertised promises. There was actually a bit of a tacit apology in the fact that Mac OS X 10.1 was given as a free update to customers of version 10.0 which at the time actually meant giving out free CD hard copies. It was very unusual at the time and was not done again until Apple transitioned to a completely free OS update model a decade later.

Who said it was “unwanted”? People upgrade their phone because of age, not for AI features that weren’t present when they bought it. It’s a non issue, even with an apology. No one’s gonna “return” their phone. Especially after having it for 6 months
Are you really not understanding my point, or are you intentionally being disingenuous? I'll repeat myself one more time. If your assumption (and it is just an assumption) is correct and 'no one' wants to return their phone, then Apple stands to lose nothing by doing the right thing and making the offer. ?Entiendes?

Instead we get a $600 budget phone and they will probably raise Apple One again in a few months. Apple never gets punished, only their customers.

The internet has a short memory. In a couple of weeks no one will care about this.

And Tim Cook shouldn’t apologize, Craig Federighi should. Software is his domain.

I’m guessing a couple of law firms are working on the class-action suit right now. So, don’t worry about the memory of the internet. The lawyers only need a couple of people. I’m sure they have professional complainants on call.

Federighi should be allowed to resign to spend more time with his family.

I think Apple going back to live keynotes and getting more personal would be a very good thing. They've become a slick marketing company that no longer connects with the tech folk, so we start investigating options.

They should just fess up. It didn't go well.

Yes! Really utilize that spaceship campus and host some stuff.

Am I the only one confused what the big fuss is about? Apple said the features would roll out during the year, all the way back at WWDC 2024. The year isn’t even a quarter over. If they still don’t fulfill these features by 2026, sure, complain. But until then, they haven’t actually broken any promises.

I understood it the first time.
I’m saying no one or close to no one will.
They don’t care. Because they can’t miss what they never had. And knowing Apple, the most they’ll do is give purchasers an Apple TV subscription for 3 months.

lol. I don’t use Siri except for turning off lights laying in bed. - my button is for ChatGTP voice activation.

Ok Apple Intelligence is bad. A plastic bumper isn’t going to cut it this time. How about as a first step, when we have Apple Intelligence turned off and update the OS they F-IN WELL LEAVE IT OFF.

Apple made a major misstep with the way that it handled the delay of Apple Intelligence features for Siri, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said today. Announcing the delay through a press statement was a bad decision, and Apple should instead have gone through official channels.

Kuo referenced the well-known "Antennagate" PR crisis when the iPhone 4 launched in 2010, and the way that then Apple CEO Steve Jobs handled it. Jobs personally responded to multiple customer emails, and then Apple held a press conference to address concerns about the iPhone 4's cellular signal. Jobs ended up announcing that Apple would provide free bumpers for all iPhone 4 uses to mitigate the issue, and allow customers who were still unhappy to return their iPhones.

The implication in Kuo's statement is that Apple CEO Tim Cook and other executives should follow Jobs' example, giving customers more insight into what's going wrong with Siri development.

Kuo acknowledges that it takes time to develop artificial intelligence services, and that Apple's early announcement of Apple Intelligence Siri features at WWDC 2024 is understandable "given the pressure from the board and shareholders." With the company unable to deliver the feature set in the promised timeline, Apple needs to provide a more concrete response.

In the midst of Antennagate, Jobs was transparent about Apple's position and offered a concrete solution. Jobs said that Apple did not "fully understand if there were problems" when the iPhone 4 first came out, but that the company had a responsibility to educate as a "leader in the smartphone world." "We're not perfect, and we're working our asses off," Jobs said.

Back in 2012, Cook did personally address Apple Maps shortcomings in iOS 6, penning an apology letter to customers. He told customers that he was sorry, and he provided insight into Apple's work to make the Maps app better. Given the uproar over the delayed Siri overhaul, it could make sense for Cook to again speak to customers directly.

It would be a good thing. Here's hoping!

Why does anyone care what a supply chain guy thinks about software? He has zero insight of value to offer here.

Isn’t this “outrage” over the top? How many people bought a device that has Apple Intelligence specifically for those delayed Siri features? This isn’t antennaegate, where that issue actually affected the basic use of the product.

It is. Especially as almost everyone here strongly states they don't want Apple AI on their iPhones. And will immediately turn it off if it shows up in an iOS update.

A personal address by Tim Cook means admission of fault and class action lawsuit. Why do you think iPhone 16 product pages were updated so quickly?

Apple has sold 80 million units of the iPhone 16 series so far. Can you imagine what would happen? Right now, Cook's team is just praying nothing big will happen.

iPhone 4 was solved with a 25 cent bumper. It was only a month of sales and people were excited about upgrading their iPhones each year. Not so much with iPhone 16.
it is illegal , right ? technically they could totally get sued for what they did
