Anyone born before say, 1990 would agree with the above sentiments. Anyone born after don't really care.

Not really. I’m born before 1990 and think people are being overdramatic pearl clutchers because they can’t play with a feature for a few weeks then largely won’t use. At least with the antenna situation it affected a core feature of the phone and was a hardware design issue. It’s like when everyone was acting as if Echo Dots were the hottest development in history, and now that whole platform is a sad money pit.

The world didn’t adopt Google’s super duper special magical systems that supposedly would end us ever having to call a business and talk to a person for information. Home automation from all platforms is still about as close to the Jetsons as it is to the Flintstones.

These whiners need to quit acting like this is the 787 MAX or the poisoned Tylenol situation.

I upgraded my 12 Pro to a 16 Pro largely due to Apple Intelligence features that were hyped but have not yet been delivered. I don’t agree with all (or even many) of the class actions that groups have filed against Apple over the years, but this situation seems to call for it. They advertised vaporware that doesn’t exist (John Gruber’s recent piece is pretty brutal, but fair).
So what I'm reading is this is on you entirely. Fair enough. Never buy something for what it might do, buy (or don't) for what it does right now. I've got zero compassion for anyone that bought a phone based on a carefully curated CG presentation.

At this point, some of us don’t trust Apple enough to know there is a software solution to the current situation.
If some don’t trust Apple, then there is competition. I still “trust” Apple.
If some aspects are started from scratch, hardware already sold as “Built for Apple Intelligence” may, or may mot be sufficient. Time will tell.
Definitely.

AI is oversold. Its not the panacea the tech investor community thought it was. If they had asked actual engineers what they really thought and listened to them, theyd know this. Tbere is nothing to apologize for. The tech community is trying to pass off a live guessing game as “intelligence”.

Wow the drama! Bought the iPhone 16 last week and couldn't care less about Siri. It's far from essential for now, we can all can wait a few more months. Let's go on with our lives. I'm sure there's something good to watch on ATV+ or Netflix.

Antennagate was a complete nothing burger of an issue.
I had just bought one, and it was more than that when you are the one with a brand new broke POS. i got the band and didn’t look back…..but still…

All that means is that it’s ready when the time comes. That is all.
Spot on. And there was even an MR story here not long ago that Apple will soon be creating a factory to manufacture its custom AI servers, that will be distributed geographically.

In other words, it’s coming.

I'm more interested in if those servers just sanitize sensitive data and hand off to gpt. I believe it's coming, but I think their data center model is changing as we speak

An apology and explanation, you say?!

Who is going to make it?

Innie Tim Cook or Outie Tim Cook?

They did the same thing to iPhone 6s's batterygate, AirPower and new CarPlay (They said there will be available cars in late 2023, look where we are now.) It's what apple does now.
