15+years ago I had a Sansa (by Sandisk) MP3 player with a Liquid Metal back. It was so nice because it was self-healing when scratched, and when Apple bought the patent I always hoped it would be used for iPods, then later iPhones.

So it’s at least 2 years away if everything goes to plan. Meanwhile Samsung will be releasing their 7th generation folding phone in a few months.

I never understood what do people do with these huge tables phones? Is it still a phone or is it a tablet? Or a tablet with a sim? I personally don't think a folding tablets would be what I consider "an iPhone".
It's both.

But really if it makes calls using phone networks then its a phone, as opposed making calls on an iPad Mini which is a tablet with a VOIP app.

It's got better hinges, Please please buy it!. ....it will be your best friend forever!

The reason Apple hasn't released a foldable phone is because they are busy for years trying to figure out how it won't cannibalize on their existing products. It's a huge part of their focus. E.g. contemplate why they don't allow 5G simcards in Mac laptops, or able to switch between iPad OS and Mac OS on an iPad. Apple isn't existing to make the greatest products. Just artifically castrated products.
I suppose you're right about the 5G modems; I mean, I always thought it was weird that Apple stopped including cellular modems once SJ passed away. /s

The main reason why Apple hasn't released a folding phone yet is their users. Apple knows that they would never accept any of the compromises associated with new tech. Simialrly, so far no one has figured out how to perfectly hide an under screen camera or not have the lcd affect its image quality. Android users understanding accept these compromises to get an under screen camera while Apple users never would. This is why Apple generally waits until technology has matured before including it.

I've been referring to it as that but I think Apple will go with a name which isnt similar to its competition like fold.

'iPhoneBook' is the kind of clever play on words that Apple likes so I really hope they go with that.

Mainly so I can say that I named it. 😂

I have seen no existence of a foldable iPhone at Apple, it was a project that was looked at but abandoned in 2023.

It's a phone and a tablet. And a knife. And stabbing veapons.

A phone folding out to double the size. More ways to entice is to stare at our screens even longer. Also what will they do about this competing with iPads? Isn't it business 101 to not compete with yourself?

I'm not anti, just wondering what people do with a phone this big. Where do you carry it? What do you do with it? Is it purely digital content digest that can't be done on a laptop or iPad or a TV? Is it even being used as a phone, an iPod and an internet communicator? :D
I carry mine in my pockets. No issues at all there. I use the larger inner display for web browsing, viewing photos, viewing and responding to emails, multi-tasking between 3 different apps, watching videos, etc. I use the smaller outer display for everything else. It replaced both my iPad Mini and my laptop.
