A global pandemic and chip sortable maybe ?

Goals are just goals. MacRumors and YouTubers will treat it like the end of the world if Apple misses its mark by a few months, but stockholders won’t care as long as revenues hold up.

Apple has had ample time to readjust expectations, but I believe at one of the past events Apple reiterated the 2 year transition period, which surprised me. They must still think they’ll at least announce all replacements.

Edited for a typo.

Well, that's very disappointing if true...

Mini-LED is one of those things that you can't go back on once you've tried it. A mini-LED display is one thing that could make a Mac Mini Pro or a 27" iMac a real competitor with the M1 Pro/Max MacBook Pro.

I really want to own a Mac desktop, but not until they make one that has the display capabilities of the MacBook Pro.

I wonder if they really need to have an iMac Pro if they have a Mac mini pro. Especially if they release a lower cost display that it can be paired with. Then you can have two of them that match instead of being stuck with an iMac screen.
Had the same thought myself. The original iMac Pro was as top gap machine for pro users that were desperate for a high end machine to replace their trash can and couldn’t wait for the cheese grater Mac Pro to be released… It was never significantly updated and was in fact quickly outpaced by the 2020 27” iMac… I think we are more likely to see a Mac mini Pro or a Mac Mini Studio or a Mac Studio or some flavour of desktop box that will be aimed at pro users that don’t need to go full Mac Pro but need a machine that is beefier then a M1Pro… This would essentially be a brand new desktop machine from Apple and would be quiet exciting especially if they released a cheaper display along side it… It would also mean that sales of one wouldn’t cannibaliser sales of the other, whereas if they make a silicon iMac Pro it could eat into sales of high end iMacs and lower end Mac Pros… a Mac Mini Pro Studio would live in it’s own space… I’d buy one to replace my 2020 27” iMac…

My guess if this is the case is that alongside the MacBook Air launch in late 2022, Apple will also announce M2 Pro M2 Max in the iMac Pro and Mac Pro which will ship in early 2023.

If Apple does release an "Apple Thunderbolt Display 5K" on Tuesday with an M1 Pro/Max Mac mini Pro, I could also see them offering an iMac 5K with the same parts since...why not? Some folks (like myself) just prefer the AIO form factor of the iMac while others like discrete monitor and desktop so Apple could cater to both markets for not much more R&D and production costs than only picking one.

So they could conceivably do the same for the high-end professional market - iMac Pro with only the multi-SoC options (M1 Max Duo / Quadro) and a miniLED display (32"? 6K?") and then the "Mac Studio" with the same SoCs and a refreshed miniLED 32" 6K Pro Display XDR and/or the 7K "Apple Studio Display".

An Apple display would have more macOS integration than LG, such as auto brightness and True Tone
The LG Ultrafine 5K already have full macOS integration, including auto brightness and True Tone.

That said, I agree that Apple could deliver a way better design than the ultrafine, which is okay but nothing more. But if the panel itself is the same, not sure it would be a compelling upgrade for Ultrafine owners

A complaint I hear a fair but about the LG Ultrafine is there is very little panel uniformity so two Ultrafines can look significantly different and when matched to an iMac 5K, the Ultrafine can look different.

Apple does perform additional calibration of iMac 5K displays so if you put two next to each other, they will look very similar and one would expect the same of an Apple 5K display matched to an iMac 5K.

Seriously? What is taking so long? We get two Mac Minis built on Apple Silicon and they still can’t come out with a 27 inch iMac?

Now that the MBP's are finally starting to see "normal" shipping times, I am guessing TSMC's yields on M1 Pro and M1 Max are now good enough to support them going into desktops, as well. :)

I will be very frustrated if Apple slips on the 2 year plan for Apple Silicon transition. I am already very disappointed in the amount of native apps available almost 2 years later.

Well it wasn't in Apple's plan to first have a pandemic, then a chip shortage and now a war in a place where gases to make CPU and chips are being constrained due to war in Ukraine.

I think come Tuesday to have a much better outlook on the the Apple Sillicon transition.

As for native apps MS gave OneDrive M1 compatibility and Dropbox did the same. It getting there hopefully teams is next

Apple has kept their 2 year transition in place even during the pandemic. There are still a lot of higher end software that is not Apple Silicon native which really is irritating. Apple needs to do something to address this or Intel will catch up quickly. And a native x86-64 application will run better on an Intel processor than M1 with Rosetta with the newer Intel processors coming out.

Of course newer Intel chips will run native x86 better than older intel ones and M1. Try running native ARM apps on x86 CPUs like Intel or AMD and see if you can even start them.

Apple can't force devs. That's why rosseta will be place for around 5 years and it takes time to build up Apple Sillicon Mac numbers for devs to do it.

But yeah this is still a rumour from Kuo. Can you tell me which apps are lacking M1 native option?

I’m encouraged that the percent of apps migrated to Apple Silicon is up to 69% now.

Well the pandemic was already underway when they announced the two year transition and they should have accounted for a shortage due to that.

Nice! (typical meme with the percentage)

A lot of my software is part of the remaining 30% which is frustrating almost 2 years later!
I understand. I'm sure it is frustrating waiting for software vendors to update. I'm fortunate that the only non-AS software I have now is Dropbox.

WOW! RIP 27 inch iMac

Sounds like your dead and never coming back in favor of a 30 inch or bigger iMac Pro with Apple silicon.

Which will be super expensive. Nothing in between 24 Inch iMac and a 30 inch or bigger iMac Pro.

SAD

The iMac lineup suddenly got alot more expensive.
