What's the point of the Galaxy's facial detection? To say "we have something else" to the FP sensor (which is meant to be more secure)?

You can unlock the S10 w/ your eyes close or photos. Is it worth that much convenience though? To me, no. FaceID is so much better, that I would be missing it so much if I stick with my S10e long-term. I don't like the FP sensor in the power button either.
I dunno it’s been around on android sound ice cream sandwich in 2012.

But they don't have the option to turn it off? The ICS standard is pretty crappy. Google is also lazy by not trying to finesse a system into their Pixel 3. But then again, didn't the reports say Apple had about a two year advantage with FaceID?

You don’t have to enable the facial recognition. You don’t have to use it. You can just have the FPS and a pin or pattern.

I meant for Samsung to completely remove the option. It's a joke to have that feature in there and say "it's a convenience option" because people will continue to pit Apple's differentiating feature against Samsung. It gives the XR a major leg to stand on vs the S10e too.

I've been Apple-only since the iPhone 4; but this time around, Samsung gave me $550 for my iPhone 8. For that price, I figure, even if I hated it, I'd absolutely get more than the $350 it'd cost me to buy the Galaxy S10.

Well...turns out I don't hate it in the least. I'm no Android fanboy, but I have to say Samsung did something right with the S10. It gets better reception by far than the iPhone 8 (or 8+, X or XS my friends own), and there's no hint of the classic Android scrolling lag/hitching I've seen in the past.

I'll easily and quickly go back to Apple if necessary, but thus far I've been super pleased.

Obviously not from the link I posted.

No point continuing a discussion with someone who doesn’t actually want to have a discussion and just says “Here, read this”. Why can’t you offer your own technical description of how Android works to counter my claims? Why have you ignored the specific mitigations I listed that Google added in Pie?

Easily done.

iOS updates update everything - Apps and security
Android OS updates upgrade the sytem
Andrid security updates upgrade the bugs and secuirty issues.

You don't need a full Android OS update to elimate the security bugs as they are dealt with by the security update.

Not sure why you'd claim iOS needs a full OS update. Have you ever actually updated an iOS device before? You absolutely don't need a full OS update just to get security/bug fixes or features.

Android monthly updates fix security issues and bugs.

Android full OS updates (newest version) add new security mitigations built into the OS itself making it harder for hackers to gain access than in previous versions. This is why Google advises to always update to the latest version.

Samsung state that face ID is not secure.
If it’s not secure, and can’t be made to be secure, it should be disabled via a security update asap.

Adding a half-baked face recognition unlocking capability just so they can check off a box for their spec-obsessed fanbase is shameful. They’re knowingly putting their customers’ security at risk. Does anyone think Apple would do this?

You cannot use face unlock for anything that needs security.

Nice apology for the fact updates on Android are a joke. My Note 9 will very likely get Android Q late (just like the Note 8 got Pie late). Q will also likely be the last update it gets.
The Note 9 will get Android Q 1 year after it got Android P.
So a 1 year update cycle major OS releases just like Apple and Google.
Also what I wrote is the truth not an apology.
Project Treble was supposed to address this, but like all of Google’s previous attempts to deal with slow updates it hasn’t helped much at all.
It did improve things for most OEMs including Samsung.

He is correct.
On iOS if Face Time has a bug, if iMessages has a bug, Apple needs to issue a general OS update to fix these bugs. This update is somehow similar with those monthly security Updates Android phones get.
On Android, Google doesn't need to do the same thing in order to fix bugs for individual apps.

Also as nice as those security mitigations Google backed into Android P are you are just exaggerating their overall importance and relevance especially when Google themselves didn't quote important security problems that need a new OS version because that's the only way they can be be fixed and that older Android versions are very unsafe.
If you are not actively trying to install apps with the specific purpose of harming your phone(form a software, security stand point) what is the relevance of those security mitigations? Don't tell me black hat hackers tried to get into your phone.

Is it just me, or is every other comment in this video essentially saying that the unresponsive fingerprint sensor is a user problem? Seems like everyone is basically copying and pasting the same stock response.

So we have an inaccurate face scanner and an unresponsive fingerprint scanner.

Bone-crushing innovation indeed.

Many people don’t have any issues with the FPS. Sounds like a mixed bag. I wouldn’t say the FPS is a write off as many people are using it perfectly fine.

Like unlocking your phone?
A theif is unlikely to have your picture unless it’s someone you know. I just wouldn’t use it. There are plenty of other options that work like the FPS or even a voice command go Bixby.

I will never use facial recognition on my S10 plus

Will stick with FPS which for me works very well

Do like it better than face ID for some reason not always needing to pick up my phone and checking things on a flat wireless pad for one

Then there are the play services updates which upgrade the core apps and services. So core apps and security updates are independent of the major OS updates. Therefore only getting 2 major updates does not have an impact on you still receiving security updates or updates to core apps and services.

FPS works well as can be for a first gen

In fact face ID has just as many false entries as FPS

Not everyone cares about the security of the phone. Some people do not use any phone locking. I understand that the concept of having options is a difficult one for some Apple fans but still...
Yes there is the option to you know not enable the facial scanner for unlocking. It’s not on by default. There are other options that are secure.
