USB A is dead.
Sorry for not being more clear. It's dead on the Macbook and Macbook Pro line.

That said, we shouldn't expect that USB A will become more prominent on other Apple products in the coming years. It's on it's way out the door.
Agreed that it is on it's way out, but I have a feeling this time (unlike floppy and CD / DVD) we are losing a feature before it's time.

Yeah, I'm confused as well! So, are we getting the Ipad Pro Refresh this month or in March? I get it makes more sense to do it in march (a full 18 months after the launch of the current one) but if so...why the dummy models of the new one leaked now...case makers need 6 months to manufacture cases? How complex can that be? you just need the right dementions and you could hammer out cases within 6 weeks, not 6 months!

Also...heres something else that makes no logical sense what so ever... Why put out an Ipad Pro with a Time of Flight Sensor BEFORE including that on your flagship product (Iphone)?

Why do that? Doesn't it make way more sense to put out an Iphone 12 with a time of flight sensor, then put out an Ipad Pro to match it?

Why give that function to an Ipad first, which is going to be more cumbersome to use? Its way easer to scan something with an Iphone then an Ipad no?

As for the 16 inch macbook, i get this one comes with the new keyboard, then later around march-june refresh the rest of the line with the redesign and keyboard.

Thats the only thing that make any sense.

So what are they going to show at this October event then? a redesigned macbook pro 16 inch and maybe new airpods then show the AR Glasses?

This is so confusing... I just wish apple would come out and say "Yes we're holding an event this month, just wait a few weeks" so we could all be informed because i am not a rich man, i need to budget and plan for this stuff months in advance!

What’s the appeal of the rumored SE2 for you?

Geniune question, I’d like to understand.

I’m not the OP but for me it’s a relatively smaller lcd display than the current offerings, No Face ID, a home button, Touch ID, only one camera in the back, upgraded internals, and of course the price.

I have have no need or desire for multiple cameras. I have no need or desire for Face ID. I don’t need or want all the “features” that come with the latest iPhones. I like iOS and if it wasn’t for that, I’d have no need for an iPhone. I’m still on a 6s and it does everything I need it to do. But if this so called SE2 is true, it would be something I’d consider upgrading to.

I don’t understand why some people have such a hard time understanding that some people just don’t want or need these new (expensive) phones with features that they will never need or want. It’s iOS keeping me on iPhone.

At this point I think the only feature they could add that would really make me want to buy a new one would be if they released a 15” iPad Pro. The Pencil with an even bigger canvas would be a fantastic tool to keep around the studio.
15-16" ipad would be so awesome--wonder if it will ever happen?

Ah yes, by then my MacBook Pro will be 7 years old... and I would be an absolute idiot to buy one now due to the horrible keyboards and all the other quality problems. I mean I'd be okay paying say, a quarter of the asking price for the current MacBook Pros, because that's roughly how much they're worth since you have to pretty much throw them out after a year or so and they still crash thanks to the built in T2 chip (seriously, what is that thing for anyway, besides crashing?).

But maybe waiting for the next MacBook Pro that has a "new" (i.e. new for Apple but actually 20 year old) keyboard design is the stupid thing? I'm starting to think that actually waiting for any Apple computer is retarded. Despite returning to older technology, instead of lowering the price, they'll just raise the price even more, despite the prices already being absolutely ridiculous and unjustified. They'll deliver a product that fails in new and unexpected ways due to how badly it's manufactured, it will get a repairability score of -2, they won't give you more than 1 year of warranty by default, they'll make you pay extra for 2 more years of warranty after which you're completely on your own, they will refuse to fix things until they get sued 10 times after which they'll announce a repair program for "a very very VERY small number of very very unfortunate users". And if you want to use your computer for more than 4 years, then even the repair program won't apply to you anymore.

Do we actually want this? Honestly, I hate Windows, but I also hate this.

This is how I feel now. My early 2015 MBP display cable died and the screen was all garbled. It was too expensive to fix, so I sold it on eBay as parts and bought a used, perfect condition D**l Lattitude from eBay.

Not a big fan of Windows 10, but it’s not terrible once you shut off and uninstall all the crap. And also the D**l laptop I got is pretty solid, can be fixed much easier and cheaper than the MBP.

I’m so happy with it, I sold my Apple TV too. Just got the iPhone left because I don’t like Google or Android at all.

But if Apple makes me switch to Android, well I guess I’ll survive. I’m not interested in any new iPhone except maybe the SE2

Didn't like the Butterfly-Keyboard at all, so excited to see how the new keyboard will feel like. If they also release an MBP15 Version without the TouchBar, it's gonna be day one!

I want an iPad Pro. Just don't know wether a ToF camera is worth the wait and possibly expense when compared to what the current model could be available for.

Yeah, I plan on waiting until November to see if the current iPP starts to see serious deals. The ToF camera sounds cool, but more gimmicky than what I need.

honestly - id buy it if it was't a "new" keyboard, I'd be happy with a 20yr old keyboard design...

I feel like Apple could hold an event in October of this year to announce the updates to the Mac lineup and possibly Apple Tags/AR Glasses. If the new iPad Pros were to follow the traditional 18 month cycle, it would make more sense for them to be released in a possibly March 2020 event.

I have the 2015er MBP15, and an "older" keyboard, one like that would perfectly fine with me.

Touchbar will be on every apple laptop and won't be making one without it so the developer could get their app compatible with it.

It would be just nice, if they could find a solution so we can keep the f-keys. Like maybe put the touchbar above the f-keys? I just need my normal esc-button. ^^

I don’t see any October event this year,Catalina is already here,Macbooks are already updated and so on,i’m holding the brake for next Macbook pro with thunderbolt4 ,scissors keyboard and 10nm processors.
Talking about Thunderbolt4 i wonder when we wil hear something about,usb4 with thunderbolt4 (for 8k and external gpus) would be sweet in my opinion.Do you hear something about ? Thanks

I haven't had any problems with my 2019 MBA keyboard. Since Apple implemented the 4th gen butterfly keyboard and extended the 4 year warranty to their laptops, I really haven't seen many complaints about the keyboard on the MR forums. Perhaps, I am missing something, but I thought Apple had turned the corner on the butterfly keyboard fiasco.

So from an October important event, now we will have an March important event
There never was an October event, they are not yearly. Spring, WWDC, And September iphone event are a givin.

It might have do a press release for launching Apple AR or the apple tag.
Doubt it. They would add it to a keynote. reguardless 2020 is looking like a device heavy year.

We have already started our plan to leave Apple by purchasing our first android phone. Our current iphone SE and 2015 Macbook air are nearing replacement. Guess we will wait until next spring to replace and see if Apple will actually provide a SE replacement and a Macbook air with a good keyboard before continuing to leave.

Remember, Apple left us, not the otherway around.

I feel the same way. None of the 2015-2019 Apple laptops appealed to me because of the Touch Bar and keyboard issues. So I skipped them and used iMacs the entire time. I did end up getting an iPhone X but will not upgrade until the notch is gone. If 2020 is a flop for both laptops and iPhones then I will likely upgrade into a Samsung phone and a Razer laptop.

Kuo changes his predictions as often as some people change their underwear. Just a few weeks ago, he predicted that the 16" MBP will be announced in October and that it will be the first Mac to go back to the scissor keyboard. I'm not sure I understand his current prediction - if I read the article right, he's still predicting a 16" MBP this month but shifted the scissor keyboard to a redesigned MBP next year?

You apparently read it skipping details present ( so not 'right' ). ( highlight in bold below)

original post to start thread ...
However, Kuo has said that after the 16-inch MacBook Pro launches, future Macs coming in 2020 will also swap over to a scissor mechanism rather than a butterfly mechanism, resulting in more durable keyboards that are not as prone to failure from heat, dust and other small particulates.

'also' is indicative of "in addition to". What is essentially being said here is that Apple is going to phase out the butterfly keyboard over time. I have no clue what folks would even hypothesize that Apple was going to hold the next gen keyboard as an exclusive 16" feature for an extended period of time. It just isn't a "Big Bang" update across the board ( which Apple has proven for last several years at this point they are incapable/unwilling to do ). Apple may continue to ship the more affordable MBA for perhaps another year or so with the older keyboard as a "frozen in time" system (to hit higher margins at lower market price tag) , but the new form probably was coming to all the laptops eventually.

I’m not sure. The iMac Pro still needs a refresh, apple could provide more details as to when the Mac Pro is coming other than “this fall.” AirPods Pro maybe? An October event could be dubbed as a “pro” focused event.

Ok,maybe,thanks for your reply.

They might have a mini press conference detailing the New Mac Pro, Macbook Pro 16"in the tags. Some of the upgraded Intel processors are just starting to ship so some Mac units could be push to spring updates for access to the new Intel processors. It would be cool if their was a new Mac Mini Pro with a new design and a little upgrade options.

Not even vaguely excited by this. Though they'll no doubt either sell me on it, or have some other feature I "need". They get me every time. Just wish they'd hurry up with OLED/MicroLED. Sucks to not have black blacks.

all I'm reading is BLAH-BLAH-BLAH-BLAH-BLAH iPhone SE 2

Only it is probably not literally a iPhone SE 2. If look at what is quoted from Kuo's write up this is projected to be a slight modification of the the iPhone 8 chassis. It will probably be bigger than the SE but not the current age "big" as the new "normal".

The current iPhone 8 is selling at ~ $400+ and Apple will probably need to get that down into the 320-390 range to do well against the current mid-range phones. It will likely be the SE's price point; not the physical form factor device.

With the new multiple antenna needed for modern Wi-Fi and Cellular ( to get band rates up and deal with congestion ) I don't think the the old 4.0" screen size is going to work if also trying to avoid durability problems (lots of glass that breaks easy and expensive to repair). Not only does Apple need a lower cost initial device in the SE space, it also doesn't help to have a device that is relatively very expensive to repair.

They may add the head phone jack back in, but I wouldn't count on that. A more reliable button is probably a higher objective (and still use the space for the haptics for button that doesn't physically move. )

For me, it’s the same as the appeal of the original SE: good performance and small size at a reasonable price.

I don’t want a phablet and a I don’t want to pay $1000 for a phone. That means apple’s current lineup has nothing for me (except the two year old 8, which is barely an upgrade from my 7).
