Two year old 8 plus owner here. At this age I used to be itching for an upgrade, but I still see absolutely nothing to make me want to change. I love the 8 plus, the battery is still great, I have a true home button with fingerprint sensor which I love, and I also have 3D Touch which I use.

Mine is only 1 year old. Almost. And yes, wait another year.

This year's iPhones are lovely. Not surprised that the Pro is getting a good portion of orders. I probably won't buy one but nonetheless anyone who does is in for a treat.

Oh sorry, was that not edgy enough or filled with enough irrational hatred? I just can't get the hang of this internet business. Won't someone please listen to my complaints? They're much better than the last person's maniacal vitriolic outbursts. Honest

interesting - my wife was in the same boat with the Iphone 7 and now that she has the XR and she thinks its the best phone in the world - what convinced her? not having to type any passwords and having the phone recognize her face and auto logged her to her social and bank apps
Didn’t the home button on the 6/7/8 with Touch ID give you the same auto login. I guess with Face ID sometimes it is automatic and other times you have to select the blue bubble. And with Touch ID, you had to put your thumb on it.

Phone debt is such a silly thing. Even if it is 0% APR through a carrier or Apple, it is still debt. People buying things that they can't afford otherwise.

My sister is trading in her XS for an 11. I'm like, why? Why be perpetually paying for a phone? And why put yourself in debt over a cell phone?

Clearly if you can't afford it you should not buy it. But I can afford it - but why give all my money away right away when I can earn interest on it by paying monthly? If apple said cash gets you 10% off (which my fav local restaurant does) then I'm all for cash. But give me an incentive to part ways with money all upfront.

I personally think that is a little insane for a phone. Then you add in the bill because you have to be on the big 4 to get the IUP, so you are essentially paying $130+ for a phone. That is probably on the cheap end of the spectrum.
That is a pretty good estimate for the total monthly cost. I am on an unlimited data plan with Verizon so with taxes, I am right around $130 per month for my phone and service. I would 100% agree with you that is too much for just a "phone" but when I consider everything I use my device for (taking photos, navigation, depositing checks, streaming music, Internet browsing, etc. etc.) it is worth $130 per month for a state of the art device and reliable, unlimited service. I know I could live without it if I had to but I spend enough hours per week on my iPhone that it is worth it to me keep up with the "latest and greatest".

lol at people willing to finance a phone.
I was thinking about that...why not pay full at once.

Do these new iPhones have an Intel or Qualcomm modem?
Assuming intel...

I will listen to your complaint.

55% of 100 is still 55. Without knowing actual sales numbers (which they don't announce anymore) then we know nothing outside of speculation and extrapolation.
Glad you stated this! There is nothing to indicate numbers of actual preorders.

And if you didn’t have the latest and greatest? What would happen? You would have MORE money, and accomplish the same amount with a lesser phone.

What people say: WE WANT CHEAPER IPHONES!!!1111
What people do: buy the most expensive iphones

Not really true ... even for the stats being quoted here.

1. That is only 55% of the phones that have a 'un-obtainium' veneer on them for the moment.

"Kuo ... that iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max pre-orders ... ".

The pre-order phones. Cheaper XR and 8 can just be picked up (no pre-order necessary) aren't in his percentage at all. The cheaper XR + iPhone 11 are likely beating the iPhone Pros duo at the moment. If throw in the new entry priced 8's then even more likely.

2. This pre-order phase is a sampling bubble. Only the more rabid fans are rushing out to buy a phone first hand sight unseen. After the initial wave of folks buy up it because it is new , Apple , and few others have it ( "first") , there will be a bigger group later than that is more in the zone of "Need a new smart phone".

3. Even inside the pre-order range that is two models ( Pro , Pro Max ) versus the 11 by itself. Unless either the Pro or Pro Max is getting 80% of that 55% both are smaller percentage their own than the 11 . If it is which individual new iPhone has the biggest percentage it is probably the 11 ( i.e,, 11 45% Pro "twenty something" % Pro Max "twenty something" % . which would be around a 2:1 ratio. )

I do not think pre-orders are representative of actual demand. I sell these things and only the hardcore people pre-order.

Since the iPhone 11 Pro Max costs the same as the iPhone XS Max I bought last year (on a 24 month plan), I can give me my current iPhone back to Verizon and get the latest and greatest for a $40 upgrade fee and the cost of sales tax (7% in Indiana) on the new phone. My monthly payment will stay exactly the same although I will have 24 payments left instead of just 12 if I kept my current phone.

That means the one time cost for me to upgrade to the latest iPhone comes to a total of $130. It is a very personal decision how people want to spend their money. I know people who spend that more than that every month just on cigarettes. I don't smoke so I have more money to spend on the tech that I enjoy using.

It isn't a subscription model. It's an alternative financing model.

Apple music is a subscription model. You stop paying and Apple stops access. But you do not owe anything after that. You own nothing and you own nothing.

If you purchase a phone on installment payments, you can't just decide to stop paying and return the phone. It's the same as financing an automobile.

The fact that you can trade in a phone after a period of time is the same idea of trading in a car. You get rid of your current phone/car and cancel the debt, but acquire a new phone/car (a.k.a. asset) and incur a new liability.

I do understand that. However, most people treat it as just a regular monthly expense like a car payment, rent or mortgage; I suspect many do not see it as a form of debt.

Yikes! The Pro is outselling the lower priced model? People do like their cameras and Paris Green.

Or maybe it's that early buyers tend to be the premium buyers? And that regular folk don't sit in front of their 'puter waiting for pre-orders to open?

4Q19 timeperiod = 9/20 - 9/30

This only approves pre-order people are less sensitive to price

I think it ALSO proves Pre-Order People are mostly Apple Fanboys & Fangirls.

Personally, I am waiting till the DRAM numbers get confirmed on Friday, BEFORE making a final decision.

If it's confirmed on Friday that the NON-Pro does in-deed have 3.7-3.8 GB of DRAM, then it becomes a NO brainer decision !

But what if we can afford it but choose to just take the 0% loan since it’s literally ZERO PERCENT. $1000+ today or $1000+ over 2 years, I’m not sure why you would fork over the cash now unless your credit is bad.

I pay the cash up-front. The reasoning is simple: can I afford it today? Yes. Ok, buy it.

Can my future self afford to keep up the monthly instalments? I don't know, maybe that person has had some kind of financial disaster, severe sickness, or injury that prevents work. That future self might not appreciate having to pay those instalments.

I think people who pre-order phone are more likely to be pro users and early adopters. iPhone 11 will be a really popular phone, a lot more popular than the XR and pro models.

Why not? People like phones, that's a good enough reason for me.

It is shocking the amount of money people are accustomed to paying on mobile phone plans and to add expensive phones that are upgraded annually, I honestly scratch my head on this decision.

I pay with taxes included $6/month and I receive unlimited calls/text/3GB LTE data that is capped by choice to not pay more and roaming included. I keep my data in check as I do not require more mainly because every place I frequent has wifi.

What I pay in a year is what some people pay for half a month of service for one month. I save quite a bit of income that even if I did not receive my iPhones for free, I could pay for with the savings from my phone plan.

The iUP is the biggest wool over the customers eyes I have seen, it provides Apple little to no incentive to include more every year as an upgrade is guaranteed by most.
