This. Except they arent $20. If the earpods cost Apple a few dollars a pair at their bulk cost Id be shocked.

But you want the same phone as last year, a bigger (5.8 to 6.1 and 6.5 to 6.7) OLED with 120hz Pro Motion, 5G (have to pay the piper Qualcomm to get that for now), and the costly upgrade components this year?

The money has to come from somewhere or raise price. There is no choice C to get more stuff and same price with no compromises. Bigger Promotion display and 5G > earpods any day all day.
$20 Retail price headphones... Happy? Actually I think they're $29. I bet the next thing you're going to tell me is the iPhone doesn't cost $1000? 😂

if you want to take something away apple (you greedy scum bags).. how bout the lightning port instead. i cant believe thats STILL going to be a thing this year.

You really dont understand retail price versus their price to produce to include in the box? 🙄

If selling for $29.99 it costs Apple $6-10 tops to actually make and factor into the materials with the phone.

I understand. You really dont understand when I said retail price I meant the retail price as in the price you pay when you go to a store? You know retail as in retailer the place you buy things?

What the sam hell does retail price have to do with anything at all in how much a phone costs? Apple isnt tacking on retail price to the phone cost  The bill of materials is THEIR cost to produce. THEN they mark the whole package a certain %

If you are paying $30 you're a sucker paying the Apple/Apple Store tax You can walk into any Walmart or Target and they're $18-20. https://www.target.com/p/apple-wired-earpods-with-lightning-connector/-/A-51530146 Or Amazon for about the same $17-18.

Well when people say ____ "costs" ____ they're usually talking about the retail price. For example "The desk I want at Ikea costs $900". It's assumed by most people that when I said $900 I meant how much it costs for me to buy it. I'm not really sure how you got confused here. I can only speak for the English language in the USA so perhaps if one said this in another language or another country it would mean something different?

In my post I just said they were $20 headphones. If I said to someone I had $20 headphone they would assume that meant the price to buy them retail..

Uhhhhh no. We're talking about components in a phone box, swapping one part for another. That, the bill of materials, has NOTHING to do with retail cost.

It doesnt cost Apple $30 to include earpods on the box. That is after markup to the public from their cost to make them and put them in the store/ship them.

Im unsure how you cant figure this out still. You said $20. They dont cost $20 to make (bill of materials) and selling for $29 in the Apple store and $19 at third parties. So they cost Apple $20 selling for $17.50-20 from third parties getting them from Apple? How exactly does that work? 🤔

I'm unsure why you're upset because you misunderstood what I meant? I meant the retail price value because I don't know nor would care to speculate what the materials cost. I thought surely it must be a language barrier that caused the misunderstanding but if not this is really really silly. I think we both agree that I was talking about retail price now?

I used to be against the idea of AirPods.

I waited a couple years to see how well they held up, how popular they were, and user reviews for long term usage.

I finally gave in and bought some on Black Friday and now I don’t leave the house without them. They are as essential for all iPhone users as the phone itself. Got a carrying case for my belt loop that allows quick access to them when pulling them out or putting them back in the charging unit.

For people on the fence who think they’re not that much better than the wired EarPods that come with the phone, you might be surprised at how great the AirPods actually are.

I love mine and never leave the house without them either. If I want to make a quick phone call they're easy to use. They're great for on the go listening and the battery lasts a long time. I could never go back to old wired headphones.

Next step, no charger or cable included in the box.

I don’t know how to feel about this, if it leads to lower prices then sure. We can buy accessories separately for the reduction in cost of the phone if we need them. But we all know that won’t be the case.
"if it leads to lower prices". You forgot, it's Apple, my friend... :Do_O:rolleyes::cool:

Do people spending $1000 on a phone not already have a pair of headphones?
That's not the point.
Unlike Apple lovers or tech heads, the average person still has ear/headphones with a 3.5mm plug which Apple doesn't have a port in its iPhones anymore. Not everyone has the money to keep buying newer accessories Every time that Apple changes the iPhones designs. Some bluetooth ear/headphones music quality still stink so why pay money for that when you already have good, working headphones?
Apple no longer include the 3.5mm adapter in the iPhones which cost ~$10 USD now and you'll need several just in case you forget to carry one or lose one.

Eventually, Apple will probably start to phase out All accessories so that all people are buying is the iPhone and nothing else, not even the cheatp 5w chargers or lightning headphones. For ~$1000 iPhones, that's Unexcusable.

If the crappy sounding, ill-fitting EarPods are included with my iPhone 12 5.4, I will then have 3 sets in excellent condition that I don't use and I connect my wired Sennheisers by dongle anyway. Bye bye EarPods, we've moved on to better things.

Thanks for the 2016 flashback but it's 2020 now and it's not just Apple. Flagship Android phones are catching up with many no longer having this outdated jack.

will the price drop $100, if no. EarPods, no cable, no charger are to be shipped in the packaging? Maybe the packaging is also unnecessary, I can pick up the device in person. 😝😝😝😝

Untrue. Most major selling phone models dont come with a 3.5mm jack anymore. Include Android in that that have USB-C headphones. Sure for other things like a laptop etc, but then your statement applies to 99% of the top selling/common phones in 2019-2020 too.

Peope with older phones will have to deal with it one way or another at some point no matter the OS.

Not everyone has the money to keep buying newer accessories Every time that Apple changes the iPhones designs.

There have been TWO total headphone styles in the 13 years of an iphone- a 3.5 jack and a lighting jack. That's a tad bit dramatic over $20.

Tech evolves. We have had how many video formats in the past 20-25 years? Betmax, VHS, Laserdisc, DVD, blueray, etc etc. At FAR higher costs than a pair of cheapo headphones.

The average person who buys an iPhone gets a lightning set of EarPods with the purchase. And if said average person wants to use their 3.5mm headsets with an iPhone they’d could purchase an adapter.

This would be a more acceptable move if they still put the lightning to 3.5mm adapter in there so people have a recourse to use a pair of wired headphones from literally any other manufacturer with their new phone without having to fork over another $9 or more.
Its only $9, anyone who can buy a new iPhone can pay another $9

I don’t mind actually. Just put them in one of those cardboard boxes they use to house the refurbished units when returning to me. The box is otherwise just collecting dust in my house anyways.

Ok? Then you would have incessant complaining that the phone price would in increase even more if Apple included ‘Bluetooth earbuds’, [which would be their AirPods.] The cost to include Bluetooth earbuds has to come from somewhere, that would be transferred to consumer to pay for. If the consumer wants Bluetooth earbuds, let them choose what they want in for an external purchase. Apple not including the wired earbuds would not be missed by consumers, it’s not a necessity, and it’s a matter of time that they should stop including the wired earpods.
Or maybe Apple can make $25 less per phone. Include AirPods with the phone. Then Aplle can pound their chest and brag how great they are.

The problem is people's way of thinking of the headphones and charger are free with the phone. Nothing in the box or even the box itself is free but rather included in the total price. People just don't realize this because there is no option to buy the phone without the extra stuff. I'd rather not pay for stuff I don't need
Is Apple really gonna power the price of the phone? We all know the answer
